Steve Hammes New Car Reviews

5 ай бұрын

The previous generation Tacoma was a disappointment…it was an unpopular take at the time…just go look at the comments on my 2019 Tacoma review…but it was 100 percent on point and this new Tacoma just illustrates that even more. This is the truck we always knew Toyota could build but didn’t. With 8 truly distinctive models from which to choose including options for a manual transmission, a high-performance hybrid and body and bed configurations - I’m looking at you Colorado - this is the Tacoma you can truly get excited about.
MSRP as-tested: $42,750

2016-2023 Gen Tacoma was very disappointing. After waiting out the 2005-2015 Gen Tacoma, bought a brand new 2016 TRD Sport crew cab 4x4 in Dec 2015 and sold it after 15 month. Engine/transmission did not work together at all and it down shifted all the time. Not sure exactly where all those 270+ horses were in that truck! Looing forward to see how the new TRD sport shifts and drives. If I end up buying a 2024 Tacoma, the first thing I would do is to remove that ugly overpowering lower air dam. They couldn't make it stand out any worse if they tried. Will look to see what they have done for the TRD offroad and will buy that trim and put it on.

They weren't that popular in the 80s because turbo engines back in the day gave peaky power where the bigger engines gave lower end power. We're in modern times with modern technology. Turbo engines are now capable of making large amounts of torque at low RPMs. Turbos never went away, they were more exotic and pricey and it was a hip sales pitch. Look at all the great turbo charged vehicles from the 80s and 90s that are in huge demand today like the Buick GNX and Toyota Supra for example.

They have a new engine, but all the video's including this one really don't want to speak about it. Talk about trim, plastic, brakes, and suspension, but when you don't talk about the engine that's never good. Seems like a test year to me. 4 cylinder only? Then you have to put turbo inside it yo get any power. Why not stay with 6. Turbo equals more heat, more friction, and we all know what that does to an engine and parts.

@ 3:30 you had the passenger seat fwd, why wasn’t it set to say your seating position first? Almost like you are trying to make something look better then it really is. Also no mention of the lack of air vents in the back, pretty sad for a 2024 new model. Seems a bit biased to me…

I like that Toyota has taken so long to update their truck lineup that they are just now starting to use the "protruding tablet" when almost every other manufacturer has already done that and is now moving back to screens integrated into the dash. It's like they skipped 2-3 whole generations of vehicle design, but got stuck somewhere in between.
