Scholar Bios:
Eric Hatungimana (Cohort 5) is currently pursuing his undergraduate degree in Computer Science at Ashesi University. He is a tech enthusiast and is particularly interested in virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and software development. In his free time, he reads books, plays football or chess (though he thinks he is not so good at the latter). He loves discussing about science and is interested in space exploration.
Jean Trésor Haragakiza (Cohort 2) holds a BSc. In Medical Imaging (Sonography) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. He is a research and teaching assistant in the Department of Medical Diagnostics at KNUST. He is the Project Assistant Intern for the Queen Elizabeth Scholars (QES) Netlinks Program and other existing projects between McGill University and the University of Ghana. His clinical and volunteering experiences have enabled him to appreciate the impact social, economic, and environmental factors have on the health and livelihood of people. Jean aspires to pursue higher education in public health to address health inequity and promote inclusive sustainable development in Burundi and beyond.
Jean-Luc Ishimwe (Cohort 3) is a senior at Swarthmore College majoring in Physics and will finish his degree in December. In March, he presented and co-authored several papers at the American Physical Society. He is also a cofounder of the Abarundikazi Period Movement (APM) and was recently awarded a grant from Swarthmore’s Lang Opportunity Scholarship for his project Ubuntu Mu Kwezi, which will collaborate with APM, and for which Tujenge Program Director Carol Jean Gallo serves as an advisor.
Christa Ishimwe (Cohort 2) recently graduated from Wesleyan University with a Master’s in Mathematics. She also earned her undergraduate degree from Wesleyan, where she double majored in Math and Letters and minored in Jewish Studies. She is planning to pursue a PhD in Mathematics at Temple University. Her main hobbies are cooking, baking, sewing, crochet and singing.
Jean Crespin Cubahiro (Cohort 2) is an entrepreneur from Burundi. He founded two startups with a focus on social impact within his community. While pursuing his studies at the American University of Beirut, Crespin discovered an interest in consulting. He further honed his skills through internships across East Africa, the Middle East, and the US. With a diverse background and a passion for making a difference, Crespin is set to excel in the world of consulting and beyond.
