This is an example of cost cutting going out of control. VW: Let's remove all physical buttons/knobs from the dash, move features into screen menus, capacitive touch controls, and advertise it as a premium feature. Surely, consumers and the insurance industry won't notice how frustrating and unsafe this design choice is.

I own a first year Atlas S FWD 2.0T. It’s been a very reliable car despite being our first VW. 86k miles and counting. Won’t be buying a newer one though due to the lack of buttons in the new one.

I have a 2024 Atlas and like it a lot. It’s a great family car and had good price for the features. Standard ventilated seats at 38k Screen works well and I really love how huge it is. No volume knob is weird but the steering wheel controls are nice and because of them I don’t miss it.

I have owned 9 VW's since 96. My GLI has the old VW feel. I suspect the GTI and Golf R are even more enjoyable.

A lot of people are not aware that the transmission in most new VW’s literally learns your driving habits over a course of time and it smooths itself out accordingly but at first drive it can be a bit wonky (it’s a Aisin transmission) there in Toyotas,Acuras and others…PS buy the base and upgrade it over time and save the money cool review nonetheless 💯

Honestly sounds good for a 4 cylinder, wish it was a bit quicker, and wish the infotainment still had physical knobs, but it's a nice package as a whole

@@General_M if you compare it to the toyota and GM 4 cylinder alternatives, VW’s definitely sound the best and least raspy IMO. Ford’s 2.3 ecoboost isnt bad either.

I drove the 2022 Atlas Cross sport with the 3.6l V6 for a month when VW was fixing my TDI. Honestly it was awesome. It had a bunch of torque, felt very smooth and solid down the road. Sound system was great. It made me realize people could cross-shop it with Volvos, maybe BMW, Audi, Merc even. The gas mileage was the only thing I couldn't get used to.

I really wish newer car refresh models would stop adding piano black everywhere. I honestly don’t get the thought process behind it.. Like Audi I do like the split screen set up and how it separates the climate to the main screen but this… what in the.

Wait, they still didn't backlight the HVAC controls?! That's insane lol. I love the touch controls on my MK8 steering wheel. The HVAC lacking a backlight is the only issue.

They have in their latest infotainment hardware update. That version has a bigger screen too than this one. Maybe that'll come to this car next year.

It looks nice. My grips are it's underpowered for the price. A 30-35 HP mild hybrid electric motor should have been integrated along with the direct injection inline 4 for a output of +300 HP. Mazda's CX-90 is a more powerful offering. Good review 👏🏽

My wife's 22' Tiguan has the same horrible non-VW 8-speed slushbox. It's jittery, and doesn't like any light throttle movements. The fake engine noise is also pretty terrible.

Not happening. This is an economy brand/model. Nobody economy brand is going to place a TTV6 into a car. The pricing may as well be an Audi at that point.

There was a time when VW made really good, solidly built, affordable Audis. We had the Touareg and that was elegantly designed and built like a tank with nice, squidgy materials on all doors and dashboard. But the new VWs are full of cheap, nasty plastics. Their media interface is a total mess. As others have stated in the comments, this thing is an abomination at that price. I still think, the DieseLgate scandal and fines must be hurting VW.

Hate this engine, not enough power in the Atlas and Tiguan these days. They should've added some more storage under the hood with how small that engine is. Touch buttons are gross too and finicky to use in these cars.

VW's in 2024 suck (besides the Golf R, GTI, and GLI). They have lost the plot. VW's are so dull to drive thay they are borderline dangerous on the road (steering, road feel, road placement, etc Had a Taos 4motion. There is no road feel to the point where you don't know if you are in the center of the lane or not. And don't get me started about the dsg jolty shift programming nonsense. Never again.

VW Atlas owner here and I have to agree on the safety aspect. For me it's the auto-stop/start. Turning left across traffic can be stupidly dangerous as you give gas to go... and nothing happens. Then, it starts up and jumps to life while you're now jamming on the brakes because you're not sure if you can make it. Then, it stops again. Maybe I am making more of this than needs to be.

I actually think Volkswagen of all automakers haven't changed enough. They mostly drive and feel the same (RELATIVELY SPEAKING) and I think that may be an issue. Once upon a time they were ahead of the curve in quality, technology, audio, wheel design, lighting design, and ride. Now they're comparatively not ahead in those things except maybe lighting design.

Interesting. I drove a T-Cross one time, it felt like it had no roadfeel aswell. Felt a bit like driving blind in a way. i guess they do this on their cheap suv models to cut some cost.

@@BigBearBjorna it's an awful feeling when you can't feel the tires on the roadway. It's hard to explain. This happened on the Taos. Which makes the vehicle feel not firmly planted during freeway driving and it doesn't feel exactly safe when you are driving 70mph+ with other cars on the road. I traded in my Taos for a GLI. The GLI is am amazing driver's car and has that old VW road feel. The VW suvs suck.

Stay away. Wife got the 2024 fully loaded cross sport atlas. Engine failure within 4 months of purchase (december 2023). Got truck back a few days ago and got the following message "Error: Drive system. Please service vehicle." This is AFTER dealer replaced the engine. Truck is back in the shop. Repeat, stay away!@volkswagen_usa
