I’m ok with them offering a 6 cylinder turbo but I’m not ok with them taking away a V8 option altogether

As a lifelong Mopar customer with three currently in my driveway, I have no use for $90,000 pickups, turbos, hybrids, or EVs. Its nice, but it isn't *that* nice. Good luck, "Stellantis".

Turbocharged engines are another added repair expense. Naturally aspirated engines are the only way to go when it comes to reliability.

I never would have believed I'd see 90,000 dollar trucks in my lifetime. No way I'd pay that for any car or truck let alone a Dodge product

This is egregious. Who are they making these for? Almost 50,000 dollars after taxes and fees for the tradesman? Just a few years ago you could get the regular cab hemi tradesman for under $30000 out the door. Suede? leather? Do they think the average Ram owner maintains their car? Digital instrument cluster that can stop working after 5 years? I have an '05 Ram and my plan is to be buried with it

I read it right from Chrysler when the hurricane was announced they stated that this new motor unlike the hemi will not run on anything lower than 92 octane and if you put 87 into it you will not be producing the rated horse power or mpg as you would get by running high octane. I just bought a new ram and my dealer said exactly that . New jeep wagoneer owners are not to happy that they have the hurricane now because some have tried 87 octane and they called the dealer because nobody told them 😂

Guys, they had to take out the hemi, otherwise there'd be competition between the V8 and the hurricane. Remember, the 5.7 hemi was originally a 2500-class engine that just so happens to have amazing packaging dimensions. If its anything like the coyote/ecoboost problem, this is actually a blessing in disguise. we're gonna have a next-gen hemi sooner rather than later.

The story today is awesome Carriage & Chassis, Horribly Over engineered & volatile drive trains! I don't want a turbo anything! There is NO replacement for displacement! Keep is simple stupid some say. Dodge didn't really get the Hemi all that right either. The Multi Displacement or Active Fuel Management system causes many issues. The best Hemi was offered less that system available only in a manual transmission version of the Challenger or Charger. Those are the ones to own. But then again, if one needed a truck where does that leave us? Can we get back to basics? I don't really need to be driving a turbo charged personal computer. We have nothing for an entry level consumer anymore. Thanks for your coverage & posts all these years. Godspeed.

I wonder they they didn’t replaced the 3.6L V6 with a naturally aspirated variant of their 3.0L I6. GM’s investment in keeping the V8 under their trucks hoods will pay big time in the long run.

My 2016 Limited was great with the Hemi. I ended up with a 2024 Limited this year with the Hemi e-torque. Leaps and bounds ahead of my 2016. Didn’t have any trouble out of my Gen IV Ram and it held its value. The new straight 6 engines are technical marvels. My dad had a few slant 6s when we were kids. Looking forward to see how the new truck workout.

Looks awesome. Why didn't you test it on the track though? Wanted to see what the inline 6 does which I would take over any other engine in a truck for sure!

I'm not impressed with the new engine choices, thankfully I'm out of the truck buying market and I'm satisfied with my 2015 HEMI. Good luck to all you new RAM buyers.

In line 6 cylinder engines are the best type of layout, smoothness, ease of maintenance, room to work, simpler design. I am not necessarily saying this one though. I would have gone with a larger displacement, about 4.0 or 4.5 litres, high compression like 12.0 : 1 even if it achieved 350 horsepower and 300 pounds feet of torque. More reliable, longer lasting and as everyone knows, once those turbos start spinning, there goes your fuel economy. Bragging be damned.

Interesting engine choice from Stalantis. Wonder how a 3.0 liter twin turbocharged 6 will fare in the long run? Specially with emission restrictions and 500+hp. People should wait to buy and see if they figure out the kinks as time goes by. It sounds insane to squeeze that much power out of a small production motor.

Big mistake getting rid of the Hemi. These Turbos will break way more, I am guessing like the ford eco boost. They even use more fuel.

These high-output turbo engines are gonna be toast at 100K miles.

I'm happy with my 2019 Laramie Hemi. It has only 45k on the odometer and its paid off. Best truck going...

The Tungsten is too cool to be a Ram. It's fit to be a luxury suv in one sense.

The front bumper resembles me a frontend of some cars from kia motors.

I have had a few Ram 1500 Hemi's and currently have a 2022. The GM at my local Ram dealer is a buddy and he lent me a Hurricane Ram 1500 Rebel for a day when I took mine in for oil change last week. I must admit it is a very nice engine to drive. Very smooth and very quiet which is great on the highway but it sounds bad when you start it up. Its powerful but I wouldn't say I noticed it being more powerful than my Hemi (Mine has after market high flow air filter and MBRP muffler replacement that might add a few HP but otherwise stock). I drove it a few hundred km on a loop i drive weekly and it used more fuel than my mine. In fairness its new and its was a Rebel with higher ground clearance and off road tires. So lets assume mileage is roughly equal. Perhaps the turbo has better emissions but it can't be that much different if you burn a gallon of fuel you burn a gallon of fuel. To me I'd stick with the Hemi at the very least until the is more durability info. The hurricane cost more, roughly same power and mileage and sounds awful and reliability and cost of repairs are uncertain as of yet so I'll buy a 2024 Hemi and drive it for many years. My last Hemi prior to my 2022 went 300K with no issues at all aside from exhaust manifold studs. Time will tell how these hurricanes fair.

Keep in mind that all of these vehicle reviews are being paid to tell us why "we shouldn't be mad" that there are no longer naturally aspirated versions of anything... and they never, ever mention reliability beyond the warranty.

Makes me want to hold onto my Ram 1500 Classic Tradesman Hemi for as long as possible. Simple enough to mod and maintain, enough power for what I need the truck to do, gets 16-18 mpg city, 23-25 mpg hwy and was able to pay it off early when they were going for $32k new.

If it were my money, I’d I can afford it, I’d get that twin turbo high output engine, since the Hemi is no longer offer. Like my uncle, I prefer a V8 in a 1/2 ton truck. He has a 2018 Ram 1500 Limited Hemi 4x4.

They could have gotten the same or better numbers with two smaller displacement turbo Hemi V8s. A full-size truck or SUV should always have at least one V8 engine. Otherwise, it's not worth it to get one.

Bought a new vehicle in 2020 and have a 2.9apr. Happy to live in those days in these prices

Best looking and riding trucks on the road . Had mine for 21 years and will never speak bad of Rams . However I just bought the Nissan Titan after 6 months of reading and test driving . Not paying 70,000 or more dollars for a truck .

Really nice Truck. I wish they would put this much effort into a Chrysler branded product! I can't afford anything over 35l. Do you remember when Chrysler came out with cool designs attainable if you had a decent job. I like that the Ramcharger name is making a comeback.

Conundrum, house or truck.

I would be interested in the Tungsten Trim level. But it's the only trim level without the 6.4 bed length. For me, that's a must. Also, the upcoming hybrid version. I would also be interested in that. But it is basically an electric truck, and the motor is a range extender. What I would be interested in, is if they did do a hybrid like the Toyota Tundra. A mechanical drive train is assisted by an electric motor. I would get the HO hurricane hybrid.

They should’ve made the I6 port injected. Heavy truck, high pressure DI and 2 turbos boosting those lines/gaskets? Truck will have a heart attack early in life. 😢

Nice truck! But not having the equivalent of Ford's 7.2KW Pro Power Onboard makes these Ram trucks a non-starter for me. The available Ram 2KW option doesn't cut it, I need Ford's 7.2KW to fully power my 25 ft RV while boondocking (microwave, air conditioner, etc).

Had me with a straight six, lost me with twin screws pushing the six to behave like the 5.7 Hemi. Have to wait and see how reliable the six will be.

Maybe Ram should try something revolutionary for them; make their trucks reliable. Of course they have no idea how to do that.

massive failure coming for this engine. very expensive mistake. ram wont make it long with this displacement. they will have to go back to v8 or shutter

"EPA: 15 City, 20 Highway, 17 Combined" since Motorweek didn't mention it in this "road test." Or that the fuel tank is 23 gallons... so you are reminded every 300 miles about the terrible gas consumption. Typical fill up is $62... every 300 miles. (Unless you have zero payload in the truck and are driving it like it's on an EPA test, in which case you will get a bit further)

Sweet, beautful truck. The update was evolutionary but was done gracefully. No HEMI and no V8 AT ALL takes me out of the market for this RAM. Im old school. My dad taught me that if it didnt have a v8, its not a real truck. Ive always gone by that advice and ive never been burned by it.

I almost guarantee that you won't see a tradeseman available on any dealer lot. At least not enough to consider it widely available to those who want them. Most will be forced to buy the bloated high priced models with glitchy fiat electronics. I had a 2014 5.7 hemi tradesman. It was basic but had great towing power. I don't need a home theater system/luxury condo on wheels for 90k. This is utter madness. I could buy a Lexus GX550 with top trim level for less! And don't expect a tiny 3L I6 to have a long life whilst pushing that kind of power. Toyota's finding that out right now. Semi truck engine makers learned the inverse relationship between hp and longevity decades ago.

I owned 3 hemi engines all of them had lifter problems at under 60k miles. I do a lot of city slow driving. So in my opinion the hemi is a bad choice. But I currently own a 6.4 challenger hemi I hardly drive it though.

Ram 3.6 e torque with 305 hp is all ya need ,unless you are heavy towing , and thats a fact.

New truck prices are outright absurd.

Most ya'll are tripp'n, here in Minnie you can get a 25 1500 Q cab 6-4 box Night edition Hurr 6 anywhere for $49k out the door? almost the same as my 23 Hemi. feel free to drive on past if its not your cup o tea.

The newest Ram 1500 sounds like a decent truck, although it might be a little China-styled in my way of thinking. It also needs a V8 to be an original Ram.

There is no way in hell I'm buying a new truck with these idiotic prices. I can do a lot of maintenance and upkeep, when needed, on my truck for much, much less than the cost of a new truck payment.

RAM should still offer the HEMI V8....along with the Turbo 6 cyl..The truck you tested is a high end model the regular 420 hp turbo 6 doesnt jump off the line like the HEMI and the HEMI gets 1 mpg better than the Turbo 6..Add two turbo's to a 5.7 Hemi you have 800hp(look it up)! Really the H.O turbo 6 power range is good but what guys wanted was the 485 hp 6.4 Hemi in the 1500...RAM never did sadly.. They only made the turbo 6 with lots of power to try to sway HEMI guys into a 6 cyl..Sure some will but I wont..I bought 2 new RAM trucks with HEMI V8's so,I am good for 20 years! I used to buy new all the time spent over $2,000,000 since 2003 with HEMI trucks,cars but not anymore..I will save money with my current. Not against the turbo 6 engines,but against removal of the HEMI V8 they didnt have to do it..European ownership is ruining them! Chrysler has a minivan,Dodge has the Hornet and Durango the Charger still isnt being made for sale as of yet..Jeep is the only decent full line brand..RAM was perfect now no 8cyl dont know the direction they are heading with $100,000 trucks! I mean I have the funds but not for a 6 cyl!
