"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.
Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.

Another beautiful walk, Patrick. People changing sign directions probably don't matter as much these days, but it would get annoying if you didn't have a SatNav. I've never been around Langsett Reservoir before. I've hiked from there up to Margery Hill and High Stones, but never your route. It is really beautiful. Thanks again for a wonderful hike, and thanks for sharing.

Lovely area. We did part of that walk a couple of autumns ago, and I always enjoy that area. The young cattle - if you're in that situation again and have the time, sit down and you will find yourself in the middle of a perfect circle - and every animal will turn right round and back off the moment you jump to your feet. As for age, I've twenty years on you and I'm still trudging the moors.
@solitaryrambler

I remember watching a video of you and Shanita at Langsett, lovely area. Thanks for the tip about the cattle, I never realised that. I've never normally had any issues, but if they are in a field by my path, I just carry on walking casually and they're fine. You've still got plenty of years to carry of trudging the moors Michael. I just think about it sometimes as my mother is in her late 70s and struggles to walk now, but then she never hiked in the past like you and I. Thanks for watching 👍

You chose a lovely day for your Langsett walk. Familiar to our walk along the reservoir lake side. Those cows were friendly but noticed the following behind which is quite unnerving. As long as no panic they usually mean no harm. Agreed about the nuisance dogs chasing lambs. So cruel ! ! Love your musical arrangements. One of your nicest compositions. Well done there. Much enjoyed watching and seeing familiar settings. Don't look the age declaration though 🙂

Hi Shanita, yes it was a gorgeous day when I filmed this. I remember your video at Langsett. I've always been ok with cattle, but I can't deny I do get nervous. I just find as long as I carry on walking casually, I've never had any problems. The dog owners just baffle me. Thanks for your kind words on the music, glad you enjoyed this arrangement. I'm still trying to experiment with different sounds when I can. I may be my age in body, but in my head I'm still 30 years younger! 😊 Thanks Shanita for watching and commenting👍

Wow! That was a picturesque walk Patrick, looked lovely & peaceful too! Shame about the people with loose dogs! People just don’t seem to have any respect these days. We were up in Derbyshire last week walking through Winnets Pass & met some people whose dog was lose which actually chased sheep onto the road in front of cars., car drivers didn’t help by blowing their horns at the sheep frightening them further! It’s a case of I can do what I want and I don’t care about you! Ethos today! So selfish. Anyway thank you for another amazing video. Looking forward to seeing the next! X

Lovely video Patrick, an area I don’t know, so great to see it. My advice is to retire a few years early as I did if you can manage it. I am 74 and still hiking. Indeed I am doing Kinder Scout in a few days time. Off to the Lakes in a few weeks time as well and very much looking forward to it. I have been blessed with good health still and I don’t take it for granted. Keep hiking, it keeps you young.

Thanks for watching and commenting Peter, glad you enjoyed it. I can't afford retirement just yet as I've worked out the finances, but will certainly go sooner rather than later if I can. Good to know you still enjoy hiking. I did Kinder again 3 months ago and loved it. My mum is in her late 70's, but she struggles to walk now. However, she never went hiking in her youngers days, which I still intend to carry on doing. All the best 👍

First of all Patrick, a happy belated birthday greeting to you. You are still a young person in reality, and we wish for you to continue to do these lovely walks for us all. Recently viewing some of your earlier videos, you have hardly ever changed in looks, and so keep it up. Now, about this video. This is a very pleasant walk around these two reservoirs in the Barnsley and Sheffield districts. Again, it's nice to see such lovely scenery just outside these built up places. Many thanks, Patrick, for showing us this northern side of the Peak District over the past few weeks. Keep well.

Great little wander Patrick. I always enjoy watching your videos. Totally agree about the dogs and their owners, some folk just couldn`t care less, probably related to all those that leave litter all over the place, just no respect for the countryside. Could do with some wardens patrolling a the weekends. Been around those reservoirs a few times, but usually walk the other direction along Langsett Bank first. ATB Dave.

I really enjoyed that one myself Patrick as I stretched for my swimming. Yeah, Victorian design is so appealing I fond. It has that gothic drama. A varied route around the area dropping down and then opening out top great views. Looked fairly forested but then we got views of the open moors. Ha, 'shoot em.' That's something my SAS family would say Patrick. These people are annoying - brain dead. As for retirement I'm sure you'll have it licked finances and all. All the best with it - you wanna be out on them hills. Well, good going. All the best as always. Mark

Good bit of therapy having a stretch Mark. Yeah I love the Victorian design, one of my favourites, and the dams here certainly have that gothic look. It was a very varied route though fields, forests and open moors, a good 'un. That's what I think too Mark, shoot the owners not their pet dogs 😊 It just makes me sad that people clearly don't have our respect for the great outdoors. Retirement will come one day, although I don't want to wish my life away, but yeah more time on the hills for sure. Thanks for watching Mark, all the best to you too 👍

@@solitaryrambler Oh for sure Patrick and injury prevention at our age. They are dramatic - you'd half expect Brandon Lee fans of the crow to be all over them. Good to hear of the variety once more - watched all this one Patrick. Enjoyed! Ha, yeah it's not the dogs - these people are a bit like fast drivers through slow estates. I hate em - shoot em. I say that 'don't wish life away.' Always a pleasure - have a cool week.

People these days only care about themselves. Shame they are not fined and banned from the area, it's the only way to teach them a lesson. Totally ignorant and need a kick up the bum. Same with the litterers too. You've worked for many years now Patrick and you deserve an early retirement. Be nice if a TV channel gave you a series traveling around Britain. Then you could quit the daily grind. It was a super walk. The Victorians sure knew how to build. No expense spared. Such scenic views around the reservoirs and nice wooded areas too. A really lovely place for a days walk. Hope you got that ice cream, you deserved one. Cheers Patrick 😁

It is a shame Kelly, but there you go. There are always those who will be ignorant sadly. I'd love to finish work and spend more time on the film making if I could. The Victorians certainly made more impressive strcutures than many of what you see today, but then I just prefer their design. I had an ice cream another day, there was no van in the car park when I got back. Glad you enjoyed the walk, thanks as always for watching and commenting 👍

Hi Patrick, as walkers we all respect that we are on someone else's property and the livestock in those fields is their livelihood, idiots that let their dogs run loose have no place in the great outdoors they deserve to get their dogs shot and then lock the bastards up, we've witnessed 2 dog attacks in recent years and they're not nice, my problem is I'll always say something if i see a dog not on its lead guess that's the old soldier in me, once one guy threatened to turn his dog on me, rant over. It must be an age thing talking to sheep and cattle, I always do it then I just get a look from the wife that I'm loosing it 😂. I've mentioned before the wife and I retired earlier this year, I'm 63 and she's 60 and it's the best thing we've ever done, my advise is if the numbers add up then do it, life's far too short. Anyway yet another great walk and a pleasure to watch, cheers mate.

Morning Steve, yes I can't believe there are so many uncaring people in the world, so I do wonder how they'd feel once a landowner had shot their pet dog for chasing sheep. That's the problem I have, I want to say something, but I know from experience that people get defensive and can get really aggressive, despite them knowing they're in the wrong, so I tend not to approach them. As for the cows, well I've still got it for now, so I'm happy with that! 😂 I've done my calculations and there's no way I can afford to retire just now, but look forward to when I can. Thanks as always Steve for watching and commenting 👍
