Bamford looks a lovely village, Patrick. I've been through the area on the train, but not in the actual place itself. The views of the reservoirs are marvellous, all connected, there's a fair water supply when full. Glossop is another place I have been to in the past, but not around the town centre. It looks very good. I trust that it is you singing, Patrick, you are talented, as well as your music skills. Many thanks for this video showing.

Thank you for introducing some fantastic walks. I’ve only recently been able to get out more and was wondering how much time or complicated it would be to add a little map. The only reason for asking is I’m not confident when walking across open fields if I’m going in the right direction or maybe trespassing on someone’s land. Do you ever take guided walks?Thank you.
@solitaryramblerКүн бұрын
Many thanks for your kind words and for taking the time to watch. I don't do guided walks I'm afraid. As you're new to my channel, I would recommend reading the video description which gives details of what my channel is all about, as well as answering one of your questions 👍

What a beautiful place, Patrick. I can't believe that I grew up in Cheltenham and have never been to the Forest of Dean. The mural was beautiful on the side of the house, and I really loved that round house on the corner. Houses back then were built with character, not like the boxes they throw up these days. It is great that they have tributes to the free miners. What a nice memorial in the graveyard, too. You can't beat a beautiful English church. It's such a shame that due to thieves, most of them are locked. Sadly, most of the old stations closed. Was this another one that fell under the Beeching axe? Are there still some free miners left in the forest? You are right, it is lovely to get away on holiday and tread old paths, but it is lovely to return home too. A beautiful video, Patrick. I've really enjoyed your visit to your old stomping grounds. Were you able to meet old friends whilst you were down that neck of the woods? Thank you so much for taking us along and sharing this video. Have a great weekend, Patrick, whatever you are doing.

Thanks for watching Chris. I'm away again at the moment, but pleased you enjoyed this. It was a good short one to film on a rainy day but glad you found it of interest. There are certainly miners still Forest of Dean as far as I know, but not sure of they still call them freeminers today. The railway is a part of an old Forest tramroad for transporting coal, so I don't think Beeching would have been involved in this one. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to see old friends due to time, but I did combine this few days away with staying with family for a few days in Somerset. Hope your weekend is going well Chris, thanks again for taking the time to watch 👍

Unfortunately not I haven't seen him for several years now.
@CALUM2175 күн бұрын
@@solitaryrambler I think it'd be great if you made a one off video similar to the very first video you made when Michael wondered who the solitary rambler was which turned out to be you but instead Michael's the one playin a mystery man and your wondering who he is then eventually the mystery man turns out to be michael and your shocked as you haven't seen him for so long. And because he was the main character other than yourself in your early videos. Basically a special one off video or few videos with michael making a return after decades.

Cinderford looks to have som incredible buildings, Patrick. The Palace Cinema looks a real grand building, like you say one of the oldest purpose built cinemas still in existence in the country. The pictures of people on the side of the Picture House is amazing. The sculpture of the coal miner and the coal dram next to it are so interesting to see. It's another town that lost its passenger railway station, but it's good to see that there's some evidence of the railway being there at one time, as well as the old police station. A town walk on a damp day, Patrick, but most enjoyable to watch. Many thanks for this production.

It was great to have had the Cinderford Town Trail handy as it enabled me to find other things of interest in the town that I would have perhaps not normally noticed. This was a good short walk to film during the rainy day, so it all worked out pretty good in the end. Thanks Ffranc, all the best 👍

Hello Patrick. I have not heard of Cinderford before, but I liked the old Bristolian dialect in your film which is where I was brought up and familiar with (in Gloucestershire). I really liked your current musical arrangements. So effective and I much enjoyed the mood style.

Some lovely places in Cinderford. You even saw a great ball of fire. Shame the old mining industries have gone. They were the heart of these small communities. I take it that Dr Beechings proposals on the railways shut that particular station. Neve seen a police station that old either. I really enjoyed it and it's great that children made that route. It's helps them to learn to appreciate the area they live in. Cheers Patrick 😊

Patrick, a typo error, the Methodist Union was in 1932.
@nickcooper126010 күн бұрын
Great video, Patrick. The Primitive Methodist Chapel couldn't have be built in 1805, as Primitive Methodism originated at an open-air meeting at Mow cop in 1807. They eventually amalgamated with the main Methodist movement (The Methodist Union) in 1952. They named themselves 'Primtive',as they were trying to get back to the ethos of John Wesley,s original outdoor preaching-"Back To God,s Nature".

Thanks for the very interesting and informative video Patrick . Takes me back many , many years when I spent summer holidays visiting relatives in Cinderford and the surrounding area . I can see my aunt's old house near the Nags Head pub on the edge of the Green where we used to play - flying kites , balsam wood airplanes races etc and walking to Lightmoor pond for a spot of fishing and exploring . A much simpler and innocent time . I could still recognize lots of places . Happy days . Thanks again !

A nice return to the area of your earlier years of childhood, Patrick. You chose a lovely day weather-wise to visit, and I bet it was very nostalgic to go around the villages in this extremely beautiful part of the country. The junction at Seven View Road is interesting where there is a sign-post, letter box, information board and postal box all right next to one another. At the timing of 1:44, I couldn't make out what those pointed top cylindrical 'buildings' would be, looking out to the Severn estuary? By the way, the view over to the other shore is spectacular. The villages and the countryside are immaculate on this film, Patrick. I must not forget to say that the two old churches featured in this video look really splendid, also. Many thanks for a very grand production, like this.

Thanks for watching this Ffranc. I was back in this area again last month funnily enough, first time back since filming this in 2018. I've no idea what those cylindrical buildings were, on a farm by the look of it. Thanks again Ffranc, all the best 👍

Sorry but I can't remember how long it took as this was over 10 years ago now, but if you read the video description there is a link to a route map, etc. I can tell you that the route would have taken me nearly 3 times as long as it should do, however, as it always take me much longer when I'm making a film of a walk. Hello Patrick ,You make very interesting videos with good information about the areas you visit .I was very sorry you didn’t get the job you applied for, some young bright sparks think they know better,but experience is number one ,and the way you construct your videos does make me think that would be the same in whatever the work you did. Hopefully your father will come to his senses too , really sad. Unfortunately for me I have to rely on your walks because hillwalking is too strenuous for me now . But walking does clear the mind as it did for you! Will be watching all your walks as always! Aw the best Stuart ❤
