5 speed only on this SL65 Black Series. A 6 speed or 7 speed cannot handle the torque(739ft lbs) that this car delivers WHICH btw, has been "detuned" to 739ft lbs by the factory.

@@dutchNFSGaming - Mercedes, at the time of this SL65 Black Series production, had a 7 speed on other models of cars but for longevity and reliability, the 5 speed was more durable and could handle the loads of 739ft lbs. That V-12 Biturbo monster engine is capable of over 800ft lbs of torque BUT was detuned from the factory.....NOT to mention the driveshaft at the time could handle the 739ft lbs.

yeah It’s the long gears, not really good for acceleration between like 40-100mph but 100-200mph that’s where the SL is in its element.

By far the best looking Mercedes to come out from the factory I wish they would bring it back although i much prefer this year and early 2000’s stilling over the new ones. The way this sits to the ground without being lowered and dropped it still has that wide and squatty appearance and for stock rims they look great.

finally... car that has a rear spoiler that it actually needs. My compliments. If the ZR1 had a slightly better driver it would have been far closer but the nod still would have landed with the Merc. I owned a couple Z06 now and that Z06 was at least a heads/cam car if not boosted. Nice rolls.

You don't mess with the SL65 Black series (worth every penny of that $300K). It's incredibly luxurious although a pretty rough ride. The Gallardo owner was not pleased.

Beast!!! My First time taking out & feeling its power a couple days after picking it on delivery day Oct. 1997 I nearly broke my neck from just the torque!! V12, twin turbo, 650 bhp, 730 lb-ft 6.0 l, 5 speed automatic Front engine, Rear wheel drive. 4200 lbs Never letting this car go. Its the car I'll still have when I die.

I'm not fan of German cars but this SL65 BS is really what monster is supposed to be. Really stunning car. Even tho if I could, I'd pick Ferrari 458 out of this cars. Good vid, even tho you know you'd lose on circuit agaist many of this cars and probably even on straight without rolling start.
