Agreed. I know plenty of adults who smoke and go to work in the morning and take care of their families. It doesn't impede on daily living. But it isn't for everyone.

Weed can be an issue for the undeveloped brain. Any chemicals consumed before your brain is fully developed can impact the way the brain functions. So I understand his issue with it when it comes to young people, but adults? No clue.

Well I smoke a lot of weed myself, and honestly it does make you feel the urge to jus kinda space out, but it's a commitment thing, in a way, if you bave responsibilities, then make sure to do them, high or not, and if you dont feel you can do said thing while high, dont smoke, now addiction requiring intervention, personally I'd start with just a conversation with the person, but it would mean someone would know they have a responsibility, and know with weed they can not function properly enough to do said thing, yet still smoke knowing they now wont get anything done. If you're immature with weed, you shouldn't be smoking it, as the father said, as long as you're progressing in life, it really doesnt matter what you do.

Right before I got pregnant with my daughter I smoked weed for breakfast lunch and dinner I was always high but I had a good stable job then I met my husband and got pregnant and the day I took the pregnancy test and saw it was positive I gave the rest of my weed to my roommate and never smoked again that was Dec 28th 2017 weed really isn’t that bad for you I think it depends on the kid of person you are before you start getting high

One of the things that I hate most about Dr Phil is how he shames and puts people down for being honest. The father opens up and what he says is the same thing that most parents would say to their child, "as long as you are doing well in life, moving forward, being productive and are happy then I don't care if you smoke pot" and the first words out of his mouth are, "you don't know how wrong that is". Because it's weed and not alcohol or tobacco? Cigarettes kill countless millions of people and alcohol ruins more lives than weed ever will (minus the poor people who are locked up for using, sharing and owning it). If he were saying, "son of you graduate and get a job and want to do pcp on the weekends, that is okay by me" then I would agree that that is very wrong. The problem with Dr Phil is that he doesn't take into account the reality of the world today.

Disagree with Phil on this one. An addiction doesn’t have to be physical. It’d An addiction when you can’t live without it and it interferes with you living a normal productive life and pursuing goals. (Which is funny, because I’ve literally heard dr Phil say that *same exact thing* before). All for the drama, Phil, shame

@@mouseythebear4875 I dunno what the kid in the video did, but back during the height of my addiction I'd smoke meth and do heroin or xanax on top of it so that I'd both feel relaxed and energized (that's really an understatement but that's neither here nor there). Coke and heroin are a popular combination as well

I would like to know if he is borderline Personality disorder. The DBT therapy is said to be the best help, if they will take it in and learn. Drug addiction is apart of the disorder they try to bury the way they are, with drugs. My son struggles to BPD and his story is similar. My Son can't understand why he can't control his anger side. He is most a well manner, helpful and caring persons this is such a cruel disorder but it also hard to change but they can do it, it is hard work.

The father just doesn't understand that any substance, right down to Excedrin, can affect people with BP or schizophrenia terribly. Weed is truly not a big deal for most of us.....but for anyone who.has a disorder that can be dissociative, weed can be tricky sometimes.

So “progressing” is the end game? Not attachment, emotional connection? Not thriving in life? Children need co-regulation to learn how to handle their emotions. Parents relying on alcohol and “handling” their emotions via escape is modeling poor coping strategies and of course the son would imitate and mirror the behaviors. Parents need to understand it is not a do as I say, not as I do, parenting solution. They are not entitled to rely on substances and then expect the child to know better and then point the finger at the child for their behavior. This boy needed validation and Dr. Phil gave it to him by calling out the parents drinking. Kids that act out are a manifestation of the dysfunction that goes on in familial dynamics. Kids should not be treated as a scapegoat. There’s a lot more abuse going on in homes than people are ready to talk about, there’s emotional abuse and neglect like gaslighting, minimization, rationalization, lack of accountability. Adverse childhood experiences are the greatest unaddressed public health threat of our time. Dr. Robert Block. Raising secure children matters.

But the parents need to have counselling as well because they think there drinking is not contributing to this at all.

Mixing uppers and downers sounds ridiculous.. all barbiturates are. If I'm wanting to be up then I want to be up. Why go taking some barbiturate after you take something to lift you up because that'll just clash with the upper.
