Reading 2102 at work on the Blue Mountain & Reading/Reading & Northern railroads from 1988 to 1992. The first sequences are a Shoppers Special enroute to Norristown, PA. The balance of the video is coal trains from 3 different trips. Some of this footage is duplicated on other programs I have done, but I re-edited this to put all the 2102 clips on one video.

Always nice to see the T-1 at work, thank you. I look forward to her being rebuilt and under steam next year. To me anyway the real gem of the four surviving RDG T-1's is 2124 spending her days out in the weather rotting away. If anyone had thoughts of restoring her, they'd better get to it, at some time you reach a point where it can't be done. Who knows? Maybe it's that way now. Very sad imho.

That coal drag....N&W 1218 did something similar with 100 *empty* hoppers, but 2102 was dragging a loaded train IF you took away the Conrail marks on the hoppers, and repainted the tender correctly to RDG, it would have been 1950 again for a few minutes.
@thunderbird1921
@thunderbird1921 2 жыл бұрын
Interestingly, I've read that although they were mostly too late for World War II, the Reading T-1s handled troop trains for the Korean War or at least the postwar occupations. So those first couple of clips with the passenger cars are pretty close to 1950-ish too, apart from not having a bunch of uniformed servicemen aboard.

Nice footage especially the 88 shoppers trip! Guys I really doubt 2102 will have diesels with her. She can pull everything Andy's got coach wise by herself. She might need 425 for Locust Summit with all his coaches but that's about it. She can run for Tamaqua hill so she should do that with flying colors by her lonesome.

The 765 was able to run without diesel help on the Lehigh Gorge trip so the 2102 should be able to as well. I think NS should just sell their line from Allentown to Hazelton to RBMN then the 2102 could run a trip from Allentown to Pittston with open window coaches. They wouldn't be able to board where the 765 trip did, though, they would have to board near Canal Park in Allentown if RBMN would ever get that line. NS already sold the Can Do line in Hazelton to RBMN, why do they still need the line to Allentown? RBMN could own it and give NS trackage rights like the line north of Old Penn Haven.
@axle17921
@axle17921 8 жыл бұрын
+Rob Krasinski I totally agree, If CP and NS merge then I doubt anything will be sold to the reading and northern, we can only hope the merger never happens because NS's game plan involves selling some 1500 miles of less profitable trackage. Only then do I believe it could happen.
@connorflaherty175
@connorflaherty175 8 жыл бұрын
Since NS owns most of Conrail's territory following the latter's demise in the late '90s, including former Reading territory and the Lehigh Line, I'm sure that NS will allow 2102 to occasionally operate on their territory in Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey.
@axle17921
@axle17921 8 жыл бұрын
Reading and Northern has enough of their own railroad to run it on, no need to pay NS through the nose to run on their lines.
@robkrasinski6217
@robkrasinski6217 8 жыл бұрын
Well, we got 765 on a special trip with NS last year that departed Bethlehem, PA and went to Pittston and Jim Thorpe and return also using RBMN tracks. It was my first time riding the rails between Bethlehem, Allentown, and Jim Thorpe. I never rode any of the 2102 trips to Jim Thorpe (or anywhere else) over Conrail in the 1980's. I was on that trip because it might never happen again. I doubt very much that 2102 will use NS tracks or leave RBMN property again. RBMN's coaches are unsuitable to run on NS. NS's new steam excursions used more modern coaches with sealed windows and roller bearings. If I have to go to Tamaqua or Port Clinton to board a future 2102 excursion so be it. 425 is running this month from Penobscot to Jim Thorpe and return with the Mountain Top Rotary, they did this trip in July, 2014. Unlike 611, 2102 is not roller bearing and NS probably wouldn't let it on their tracks.
@connorflaherty175
@connorflaherty175 8 жыл бұрын
Who said that the 2102 would use RBMN coaches on NS territory? And RBMN could install roller bearings on her. Several Reading T1s were in fact built with roller bearings.
