What a bad day. No-one is entirely sure how many chicks are still in the box. There was five at the end of play on the 20th and now there's three or possibly four. The maximum number of chicks seen on camera at any one time today was four but that doesn't mean that there wasn't five in their. One chick was removed from the box at 7.58pm. We'll have to wait until the morning and see what's what. Hopefully it'll have stopped raining by then.
A third uninvited intruder gave us all a shock today (00:49). Especially our female. If anyone knows what type of bird this is please drop a comment and let us know. Our female was just about to give one of the chicks a big caterpillar when the interloper announced itself. It looks like she stress ate it afterwards!
In other news one of the chicks was having a good wing flap and they seem to enjoy an afternoon snooze so much the parents are having to pester them to eat.
More tomorrow...

It died because of the hard-bodied centipede provided by the father at 6:32, you can see it trying to get it down, then disappearing for a while after that. The mother even sits there with a worm for ever as the other chick attempts dozens of times to eat it, its about 8:48 when the mom really kind of gets frustrated trying to force feed the one choking on the centipede without knowing whats going on. About 1-2 hours later you can see it lifting its head up struggling. Either the centipede caused internal damage and was chewing on its internal organs, or it just kept writhing alive inside the baby causing it to suffocate, either way that is a terrible and sad death :( The centipede was not dead and can stay alive as long as any of the holes along the side of their body have access to air. The fragile tissues of a chicks GI tract could handle a dead one possibly but not like that...

Jesus loves you. Jesus is coming soon for the Rapture. Give your life to God and dedicate it to him. To be saved, believe that Jesus died on the cross to save you of your sins and rose 3 days later. Confess that with your mouth and confess that he is King. Ask him to come into your heart and forgive you of your sins, then repent of your sins. After you do all that you'll be saved. Once you're saved, focus on living a spiritual and holy life. Read your Bible, pray, and talk to God every single day. Amen🙏🏽

@@rosegreensummer ok? But that is there food to eat, what happens if they didn’t eat, they would die. It is like telling someone that can’t eat salmon but, if over 5 million salmon was never eaten and keep producing, mostly likely they would die because of being over populated. So all that fish been wasted for nothing which it should been going to people that needs food. You have to realize that we are earthly creatures that god made us to eat things like meat , fish , vegetables , grains and fruit to survive and animals as well was made to eat meat, vegetables and other things because they was made that way to survive. This beak in the nest problem can be resolved by a simple modification 1. Get a 5" long pvc pipe of the same diameter as the hole. (Paper towel roll might do the trick but won't last) 2. Attach the pvc pipe with the hole. Goal is to prevent the beak of the predator from entering the nest.

@@DP-ot6zf You're right the attachment should be sturdy enough to withstand bad weather and weight of the bird, I am thinking of using a steel wire : 1. Making 2 holes on each side of pvc pipe parallel to each other. 2. Run the steel wire through both the holes, and in order to get get both the ends of the wire outside the pvc pipe. 3. Same step on the parallel side. (This setup will appear to look like a button spinner) 4. Now place the pvc on the hole(Use a glue gun to seal for water leakage), and tie both sides ends around the bird house. (Important: Drill some holes below the pvc pipe as in case of rain the water will flow into the bird house) People this is all i can come up with hope you get the point ,comment for any better suggestions

Actually, most birds find hollows or spaces with entrances about as big as this one. The problem comes when the walls of the nest aren't as sturdy as the walls of this box; a predator can with a little effort get to the chicks depending on the material the walls are made of. If it's a hollow in a tree, the predator might scrape out some bark, and if it's a gap in some stones they may dislodge the stones. So bird boxes really are a blessing.

Really makes a person realize what these birds go through just to survive and raise the next generation. On top of predators, weather, trying to find a suitable nesting place, and all the rest, you have people spraying the hell out of their yards with pesticides because they can't tolerate any bugs whatsoever. What they don't think about (or care about) is how that affects birds and all other wildlife... and our lives when the stuff makes its way into our waters. I read an article recently about how people are using more pesticides this year with the cicada explosion and it is blinding and killing birds and their babies when they eat the cicadas. Instead of Mother Nature providing a bountiful feast for this year's fledglings, stupid people are making it their worst nightmare.

It's not instinctive. Birds that grow up in an area with no predators don't learn to run/fly away from them. This bird learned to stay away from predatory birds as it was growing up. It didn't have a built in idea already of what's dangerous and what is not. No animals does. What is described as 'instinctive' is actually learned after they are born.
