22 long is the second oldest US rimfire cartridge that still around, come out in 1871 however the 22 short is older it was developed in 1857 The 22 Long rifle didn’t come around until 1884 which you can tell they’re all over 100 year old design it’s amazing that they’ve hung around so long

I used to use a LOT of these in .22 revolvers in the past. I even had one day where conditions were just right, had a 4" Taurus 94 and plinked an 18" x 12" propane tank from 200 yards about 5 times in a row. Air time was like 3-4 seconds lol.

The key is "CB" long, it's like the "CB Caps" in .22, that's why they are quiet.

The CB .22 Long is a lower velocity .22 Long cartridge made subsonic for plinking and to be quieter.

22 Longs are not the same as the 22 Long CB round. I was always told the CB rounds whether Short, Long, or Long Rifle don't have any powder other than the priming compound.

CB - Conical Breech BB - Bulleted Breech 22 CB/BB *Cap* are types of 6mm Flobert. They're the same primer-only cartridge with different bullets. 22 Short/Long/LR CB/BB can be loaded with whatever powder charge the manufacturer decides, within specs. CB/BB has nothing to do with the load, only the shape of the back of the bullet.

@@ckim6400 No, YOU'RE wrong. You clearly have no idea who you're talking to. LOL. Shooting has been my main hobby for 35 years. And I'm telling you, CB caps are more than priming compound. They contain a small amout of smokeless powder. Maybe the old ones meant for smooth bore rifles in Europe had no powder, but the ones he's shooting in this video contain a powder charge.

22 Long is different from what you are shooting. You’re shooting CB’s that come in both long and short. Then there is 22 Short (more powerful than the CB’s),then 22 Long and Long Rifle...five different loads in all.

I remember getting longs back in the early 70's. My Remington pump gun would shoot shots, longs, and long rifles with abandon.

The reason these are so low power is because CB cartridges are loaded either incredibly light or just with the ignition in the rim of case. Just thought I'd share for if anyone was confused.

I have this pistol with a 9inch barrel! I had the six inch and just wanted that little extra velocity and have no complaints, it’s a great little gun👍

CCI .22 Long CB contains no power and the bullet is propelled by the primer only. Squirrel hunters love it because it's so quiet in a single shot bolt-action rifle or a break action rifle.

Those aren’t traditional 22 Long. They are CB Long. Actual 22 Long are much more potent.

My dad always told me a .22 long had a .22 short bullet but the powder of the long rifle. The long rifle had a bigger bullet to stabilize. Guess that's not true.

it's true, Adam is firing a CB cap not a normal .22 long. 22 CB Cap are interchangeable and are relatively quiet, low velocity cartridges, designed for indoor target shooting.

Theese rounds in the short version are still widely sold in Europe (Czechia, Slovakia and som more ) and in GB maybe as well, they dont have gunpowder and the bullet is seated lightly, so if you still want a little bit more kick to it, you should add black powder (you can add normal rifle or pistol powder but that will completely shatter the case) DISCLAIMER - DONT DO THIS IF YOUR NOT SURE IT IS LEGAL IN YOUR COUNTRY, IT CAN LEAD TO THE POLICE FINING OR EVEN PROSECUTING YOU FOR ILLEGAL POSSESION OF A FIREARM AND/OR AMMUNITION (IN EU THEESE ROUNDS PURPOSEFULLY DONT HAVE CHARGE IN THEM, THERE IS A LIMIT FOR MUZZLE ENERGY TO SELL THEM AND USE THEM FREELY, INCREASED MUZZLE ENERGY COULD LEAD TO YOU REQUIRING A LICENSE OR OTHER TYPE OF LICENSE FOR IT (sorry guys but this democracy at its peak )

The 22 long and 22 cb long have the same bullet but there is almost no powder in the cartridge.

I use to use .22 CB cap and it's similar in power to a medium powered air rifle.the cartridges I use to get where very short and had a little pointed bullet.i don't know what type of propellent they had in them but they use to foul the gun.they won't work in semi automatic guns.similar noise to a cap gun but much more dangerous!

There are many other very quiet types of .22 rounds. Most won't cycle a semi auto, and some are not supposed to be used in rifles because they'll lodge in the barrel. CCI also makes a short CB. Remington has their CeBee, which is pretty interesting, with a scored truncated cone hollow point. Aguila has the Colibri and Super Colibri, which have a 20 grain projectile and fire off the force of just the primer. Aguila also has their Sniper Subsonic, which uses a big 60 grain bullet out if a .22 short casing. This one is full .22 long rifle length and will cycle many semi autos. I'm sure most of these aren't even being made right now. I have a few boxes of many of these sitting around.

It is because it is CB.. cb is a subsonic ammo more or less a primer and like 23 grains of powder :-) hence why it is so quiet and sounds like a salt shaker when u shake it

23 grains of powder is a term of weight and it is not even close to being possible to get in a 22 rf it would fit in a .223 Remington cartridge.

Unrelated but I underestimated my .308 and milk jugs. I only set up 3 thinking it would stop in the 3rd with 165 grain Remington blue tip high velocity. But it dumped massive energy in the first but passed through 3rd. I will try again with more jugs and try to catch it. Haven't seen any videos with that ammo so I figured I try it.

I never have had issues with CCI CBs feeding from my ruger rotary magazines, in multiple 10/22s. I have shot THOUSANDS of them through 10/22s

try the CCi 22 short copper jacked hollow point 1105 fps . I use them in my Henry lever 001 and my 2 Ruger Wranglers. The CBs are under powered .

They work best with a bolt action. I have been using them for years. 22 short, 22, long, then came 22 long rifle. Some lever action rifles can handle all three of them. That’s when shoots the CBs can be like shooting a pellet rifle

I can eject some sort of .22 longs out of my dads 10/22 they are old so the box isn't able to be read clear but they travel around 1,300 fps. They are CCI longs

those are not LONGS!..they are "cb" longs two entirely different rounds..the reason for the cb longs is they won't ( ring) your chamber like shooting " shorts" making it difficult to shoot longs in..also the "long" does not have to "jump" to the rifling, making them more accurate. CCI still loads a long traveling 1200 feet per second....BTW..the long and long rifle share the same case..

The difference between long and long rifle is that long rifle has a larger bullet. Which basically just means you can get a little more ouch out of it due to the higher weight of the projectile.

Not true, the CB long has so little powder compared to a .22lr it has a low velocity before taking into account 29 grains against 40 grains for the .22lr.

The .22 LR is not the issue. The CCI-CB is clean burning ammo at a much lower velocity than normal .22 LR. It’s a lower power load that’s why it won’t cycle the blowback action of the Ruger 10-22.

Maybe to load a single round in the 1022 leave the mag out and use needle nose pliers up through the bottom. :-) I have the stainless steel sporter with a 20 or 21 inch bbl so those would be reeeeeel quite in it.

You forgot to mention those aren't .22 long, but .22 CB. CB's don't have any gunpowder but are propelled by the primer compound so yeah they'll never be able to operate an autoloader. Try using some .22 long high velocity ammo...

I’m probably getting similar power ballistically to the .22 cb long shot from a rifle when I shoot the H&N 16 grain hornet pellets from my Diana model 34 classic .22 air rifle. I know it’s similar ballistically to some .22 short rounds. From my air rifle with the pellets I shoot im getting about 650 feet per second velocity on average with about 15 foot pounds of energy but the hornets with their brass tip penetrate as well as a 20 foot pound magnum break barrel air rifle does shooting domed pellets

Those aren't .22 Longs. They are CBs in the longer case (normal CBs are loaded in a .22 short case). .22 longs are quite a bit more powerful than the CBs you're shooting.

Interesting video. I dont see the point, though. For plinking, the pellet gun is cheaper and mine does 560 ft/sec with the .177 pellets. This ammo is super slow.

Browsing through your old videos and came across this one. Well, this is just for plinking indeed. From revolver, CB Longs can't penetrate adult human scull. It's questionable if they can do that when fired from the riffle. Relatively good comparison is see if it can penetrate 1/2" thick plywood. Do you still have these to test ?
