I've always felt.. if 22lr is the best caliber for a person if that person can hit their target with it , that's the one they should use for self defense.

Here's the bottom line to me for all this hubbub about .22LR for SD/EDC/CCW … The .22LR to employ for CCW needs to be a revolver, and a snubby at that - NOT a semi-auto. The .22LR snubby revolver - not a gun for range fun, but lots of "serious fun" for SD/EDC/CCW. No? Clearly not for everyone? Maybe so, maybe not, please read on .... "If you can put holes into the vitals you're aiming at, caliber doesn't matter ... and if you can't, caliber doesn't matter." (Rhett @ Demonstrated Concepts LLC via KZfaq) - Rhett has spent considerable time and effort on the matter of .22LR for SD/EDC/CCW. What matters most, IMHO - Reliability, Accuracy, Speed, Recoil Management, Noise management. Premium .22LR cartridges are a Must for reliability and ballistics. A firearm's report matters when there's no hearing protection - worse yet indoors and/or in confined spaces, such as a vehicle. Revolver reload speed can matter, too. For the recoil sensitive, there’s literally no recoil of concern with a .22LR snubby revolver loaded with premium .22LR cartridges. Snubby revolvers are typically lighter, smaller and easier a carry than most semi-autos. Revolvers are always carried in “Condition 2”, no safety switches needed. If a round FTFs, keep pulling the trigger, no slide to rack or mag to drop for an FTF or FTE. Snubby revolver sights are another issue that can be enhanced by adding a grip laser by Hogue or Crimson Trace. Yes, a D/A only .22LR revolver will have a hefty trigger pull of near or about 15lbs. Won't take too long of dry fire practice to master that trigger pull, and that's it's realistic "safety". The cylinder blast from a .22LR revolver is of zero consequence if your weak hand happens to cover the cylinder forcing cone area during firing, and firing positions can be far more radical than with a centerfire. Unlike the snubby ejectors for all centerfire cartridges and .22mags, a .22LR snubby ejector will 100% dislodge all cases from the cylinder with the tap of a thumb or palm = surer and faster reloads (of at least 8 rounds and not 5 or 6). Premium .22LR cartridges are lots cheaper than cheap centerfire cartridges, and thus more incentive to practice more. Live fire practice at short distances may allow for at-home shooting, offering more opportunities for practice. An eight shot .22LR snubby revolver loaded with proper premium cartridges - Federal Punch, CCI Velocitor, and others - is a CCW weapon not to be ignored - or dissed. These dayze, a .22LR revolver is quite the antidote for the typical SD scenario, but to each their own, and I own or have owned a gaggle of centerfire handguns - 1911 .45acp autos, wheel guns in .357mag/.38spl, and many autos in 9mm. They're all good aggressor deterrents, but the Ruger LCR22 allows me more accuracy and speed, among more than a few other good attributes. YMMV. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jbBjjbOe3cm2ZZc.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y9OVpdqam5mclpc.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n9Ona5SAm9G-gIE.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qpiUkrif3tjPcpc.html

I agree with you and like many people have said "a .22 is better than a sharp stick". I purchased two Taurus TX-22 's for two older family members (one is 80 & one is 91). Both are comfortable and accurate using it. With 16 rounds in standard magazine and 20 rounds with the extended magazine I don't think many people would want to take them on. Plus it has the look of full size 9mm. Great video 👏. Honest and informative 👍. Stay safe and well 🙏🛐🗽🦅🇺🇸🤛

I got separated from my wife in 1991 in got my carry permit I started to go out to dance clubs and I wanted something for the long walk in the dark parking lot back to the car at the end of the night .. I owned a 38 j frame but did not want the woman I was dancing with to feel the gun and freak out.. so I purchased a American arms PX22 (originally made by Iver Johnson} it was like a clone of the Wather TPH .22.. I got the gun shop owner down to $180 brand new ! The American arms PX22.. turned out to be extremely accurate and extremely reliable I carried it with .22 Remington yellow jackets Hp.. it was also extremely safe to carry as it had a hammer block safety and an internal safety and would not fire unless the trigger was pulled so I had confidence carrying with a round in the chamber. . carried in an inexpensive Uncle Mike's iwb holster it's sank below my waistband. And no one knew I had a gun on me including the women I was dancing with..

I edc a glock 30 but rotate in a lcp .22 when I’m wearing workout shorts or sweatpants. I definitely make a point of cleaning the .22 regularly and practice clearing misfires.

My edc is a ruger lcp. It is so easy to carry there no excuse not to. Unfortunately their quality control seems to be all over the place anywhere from it eats everything everytime new out of the box, to it is a complete jam-o-matic. Mine had some feeding issues and light primer strikes new. Those problems were made worse by having to drop the magazine and dig out the case or unfired bullet out of the chamber to clear it. But it checked every other box i needed for carry so well it was worth foxing the reliability problems. Galloway precision’s spring kit turned mine into a reliable, accurate, 22 shell eating beast. Only thing mine doesnt like is cci stingers. I believe my chamber is cut too short for them. But literally everything else ive fed it runs, even some cci quiets that weren’t supposed to cycle semi autos would cycle it, tho not completely reliably. Federal punch it my carry ammo, and plink with those plus what ever i got handy.

On any given day there is no telling what caliber I will carry. I have a Smith and Wesson model 63 22 lr that I will carry just as much as my 380's, 9mms or 357 magnums. All of them will get it done. Just depends on what I want to carry that day. With all of them it is about shot placement. Even with the 357.

as a diabled person myself, with retired parents, I understand the whole EZ/.22/lite rack segment. I always hear "At Least 9mm, if not .45", I currently carry 9mm, because all current .380s are too small to be comfortable in my large hands, and for me personally rimfire isn't reliable enough to be EDC. BUT, if you have a .22 pistol and ammo that runs reliably, enough to mag dump the .22 in similar time, with sinilar accuracy of 2 to 3 9mm shots, I'm ok with you carrying a .22 EDC

My favorite part of the people giving me grief over being under armed with my lcp 22 in my pocket standing there listening to someone tell me about the far superior ballistics of their 9mm, 40, or 45 in their truck, or their nightstand at home a couple hours drive away. That’s mostly my buddies just giving me grief as they have seen me shoot a 500 magnum, but it doesn’t fit in my pocket as well.

I own several firearms.....My pistols are a 45 LC single action revolver....obviously too big to be a carry gun....LOL. I also have a 45 ACP 1911 commander. It is a bit large and heavy as well but is a little more "carry-able" as long as it is in an OWB holster. Both are a blast to shoot....would stop a freight train...and one or the other are always on my hip when out in the woods hunting or fishing. My normal EDC is a Beretta 85BB. It is a 380 and very easy to keep on target. .....I practice often at the range and shoot it quite well..... However, just FMJ ball ammo is about 85 cents a round!!!.......My range days with it runs me a "C" note!!!!!....When I carry it it is loaded with Winchester Silvertips....The best EDC loads IMHO....but frankly, it's still a little too big and obvious for some circumstances. I carry it in an El Paso Saddlery hand tooled leather cross draw holster....It is beautiful and almost looks like a piece of fine jewelry. on my belt. I recently found and bought a little Beretta Bobcat in 22 LR...A very small and discrete pocket pistol for the times when I can't carry it's bigger brother. I heard and saw on KZfaq that it is very picky about ammo.....That was an understatement!! The only rounds that would cycle without issues were the CCI Mini Mags......and the Winchester Silvertips.....I practice with the CCI...and carry the Silvertips. After watching how the Silvertips fragment in several videos. I am convinced that they would stop most any aggressor in there footsteps with two or three shots to the body or face......much more so with all 8 shots!!! If you don't believe me go look at some of the ballistic gel videos!!!!! They are some NASTY rounds!! Lots of people say that a semi-auto 22 LR is undependable....As long as you use high velocity, quality ammo, keep it well oiled and clean and practice clearing the very seldom misfire....It is spot on dependable and the best pocket rocket - get off me gun made. I don't ever want to need it....but I'd trust my life with it if I did.

I have carried a ruger lcp 2 22 for 3 years now. Initially it wasn’t reliable, but being it was accurate and so non intrusive to carry it was worth making reliable, the spring kit from galloway precision tuned mine up so it runs flawlessly, but there has been alot of mixed results from what i read. The taurus tx-22 platform has proven to be absolute units across the board if you can handle the larger size.

a .22 LR bullet is capable of inflicting very serious injuries (e.g. the four people wounded during the Reagan assassination attempt) or death e.g. the Kauhajoki school shooting (11 killed and 1 wounded), the Jokela school shooting (8 killed and 1 wounded), or the 1979 Cleveland Elementary School shooting (2 killed and 8 wounded) as well as the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. Numerous other shooting incidents have demonstrated that .22 LR bullets can easily kill or seriously injure humans

The American 1920's explains how lower caliber weapons were effectively used in street confrontations; 32 ACP, 25ACP and 22.LR. I agree with what you said, a 22LR can take out medium game like Large Coyote and Large Hogs.

An LCR 22LR often goes out the door with me. I shoot it often. I shoot it well. There are examples of 45acp failing to stop a fight and 9mm or 40. These are extreme situations. I will avoid a fight if possible. Use pepper spray if possible. And I'm man enough to run away. But if I ever need to shoot my way out of a situation there may well be a 22 revolver present. Thanks for the video.

It's very simple. All handgun rounds are underpowered in comparison to their rifle counterparts. Rifle rounds traveling over 20,000 ft per second are able to create a different type of wound than a handgun round traveling less than 2,000 ft per second. Handgun rounds disable/stop and adversary by punching holes in major blood carrying tissues, organs, and Central nervous tissue,. It does not matter whether or not it expands if you are not hitting vital targets. That means a zone shots and head zone shots. If you shoot someone in the stomach with a 45 or 22 it doesn't really matter because it's going to take them a long time to bleed out, the 45 hollow point might speed that up by 25%, but speeding up a 3 minute sequence of events by 25% doesn't help you much in a combat situation

Pick the best caliber for the job but some people have problems with recoil.. some people have problems with their hearing in larger calibers hurt their ears even with plugs and muffs on.. some people want to carry a tiny pocket pistol but find 380 recoil in a 14 oz gun like an LCP 380 just too much of a snappy recoil.. and I agree I ownTaurus TCP 380.. and I must keep a death grip on it when I'm shooting at the range or it will jump up in slide will get me in the back of my hand... So something like a quality Beretta bobcat 22 just might be the ticket..btw in tiny pocket pistols the 25 ACP and 22 long rifle hyper are about equal in power but 25 ACP Fullmetal jacket hardball does penetrate hard barriers like the skull in sternum much better than 22. Too bad we're at a discontinued they're wonderful 25 bobcat although excellent used examples can be found at most gun shops for reasonable prices

Is the 22 the best choice for a battle weapon or for Law enforcement? Absolutely not and anyone who would claim that is just ridiculous but, we are talking Self defense not the prior and folks seem to confuse the 2. They better learn the difference, before they find out, the hard way, in a civilian self defense scenario.
