Sea Urchins cannot actually feel pain, nor sense danger as they lack the needed parts to do so. Instead, when they die, for a brief moment the only sense they really feel is suddenly getting really cold. These things are even less sentient than trees.

When he cracks them open for the fish it achieves three things: 1 - nice snack for fish 😊 2 - Teaches local wildlife (who aren’t used to this invasive species) that, hey, this stuff is food, eat it! 3 - Fish will swarm around urchins leading the man to more urchins. Kelp forests are very important to our oceans so it’s good that this guy cleans all these up, even if it only helps a little bit each time.

Your videos have inspired me to read up on the infestation of kina (urchin) in New Zealand. Apparently there has been a group called the Kinanomics that are trying to reverse the process of Kina barrens. The main problem is the overfishing of crayfish and redsnapper , the natural predators of kina, and the differing tastes in the kina that prevents it from being sold in the market internationally. I do hope that certain laws will be in place to increase those fish's numbers.(plus, if there is greater area for kelp to regrow, there will be a healthier food source for the kina, which in turn turns the kina's roe more palatable) i love how much im writing when i have yet to try uni myself 😔😭

It seems that people are having trouble with defining what an Invasive animal is. An Invasive animal is an animal that has been introduced into an area where it is not native and making negative effects on the ecosystem. This is the definition that you use when referring to an animal. The Kina are not Invasive, because they have been recorded to have lived in New Zealand (where this is filmed) for atleast 700 years, probably longer but that's the furthest any records that I can find go. It would be appropriate to call them Invasive if they were a plant, but Kina, as sea urchins are animals. The reason that they are having a negative impact is because of overfishing of their predators. It's similar to how when the US tried to kill off wolves for eating livestock and populations of deer exploded and started to eat farm crops dry. Not only are these people making money off the Kina but they're also saving the Kelp that the Kina eat.

Hmm, its possible. But I doubt it. That's an extremely large amount of audio to record and process for key words, combing that much data would be more expensive than what it would be worth selling it to most advertisers. Its survivors bias (I think that's the term?) In WW2 they collected data on where their planes were getting shot most by inspecting the planes pilots managed to fly home, survivors bias is thinking you should put armor around the spots shot most on the surviving planes, but that doesn't protect the spots that actually bring a plane down. Basically, when you perceive a coincidence like this, talking about something and being recommended it, you don't see the thousands of people it was recommending to that had no coincidence, only the people who experienced a coincidence will talk about it, and thus, it feels reasonable to question if it's really a coincidence. But tech/communications companies are 100% scummy and opportunistic enough to do this so ehh, could be monitoring after all.🤷♂️

Solutions to your problem 1 have less air in lung => less dive time 2 have a weighted belt
@rinkashikachi2 ай бұрын
because your density times volume is more than your mass. You either need to apply more downward force by swimming or use additional weight. Its 6th grade physics
@4nto4182 ай бұрын
Pretty much everyone does unless you have very, very low body fat, like bodybuilder level. Most divers use weighted belts to counteract this. You can also breathe out and you'll sink, but that's obviously not the best thing.
@everettduncan7543Ай бұрын
When you factor in your air and fat, you are less dense than water. So divers need weighted belts.

In the Andaman seas awhile back, on a diving expedition, we went round simply mashing them with whatever we had to hand. The fish came zooming in to feast, then bigger fish came around to see what was going on, and we could count hundreds of fish by the end of the day. Fascinating.

I was walking low tide, south of Depoe bay, Oregon coast yesterday. Ultra low -1.72 foot. Crushed at least 300 of those things, stomped on them mostly. I could see tens of thousands of them in the tide pools, purple sea urchins. It would take dozens of dedicated volunteers to really have an impact out there. But some sea birds and crabs got fed that day, and I had fun!

Some of the kina are dead, so there's no reason to take them, as they're not killing the environment
@buttcracker2 ай бұрын
As far as I’m aware the main reason they are doing this is because the Kina is extremely overpopulated because of overfishing of their natural predators. I would think that the diver’s main goal is to simply get rid of the Kina and being able to sell them is a nice bonus.
