Other thing Brits love is sarcastic, irreverent and surreal humour like Monty Python as well as puns, double senses, double-entendres or plays on words and since English is a non-phonetic language, there's a reason for that kind of humour.

One more thing British people love is small talk, which in other countries like Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland or the Netherlands is considered as awkward, intrusive and rude as well as a waste of time and energy. It's a good way to break the ice in uncomfortable situations.

To be fair, it's kind of an open secret that British and French cultures have quite a lot in common (starting with our two languages which are etymologically closely related), even though we're often reluctant to admit it as we attach great importance to our century-old love-hate relationship on both sides of the Channel, but since I lived in both places, I can bear witness to the many similarities between our two countries (for instance when it comes to humour and sarcasm). And guess what? We also love oddly flavoured crisps (sea salt & vinegar is the absolute best), and most importantly, we also cheer in pubs when someone drops their drink. 😅 Go France and the UK and bless us for being so effing childish. 😂
@EatSleepDreamEnglish

Hehehehe love it! Thanks for giving us the broader perspective of 2 cultures. That's hilarious that you also celebrate the dropping of a drink 🤣🤣🤣 I guess the sea between us isn't so big!

@@EatSleepDreamEnglish Big enough for Boris Johnson not to sneakily swim his tits all the way to Normandy hopefully. On a more serious note: living in England, I was struck from the early stages by how we intuitively understand each other in so many regards. I mean: as long as the froggy can speak English as it is highly unlikely to go in the other direction. 😂 I feel really close to British people and i miss the country, its culture and atmosphere so much.

I've been to Argentina a few times and find it odd that the Argentinians care so much about Malvinas. I've done some research and find it really odd that the Argentinians don't agree that the Falklands have no reason to be part of Argentina. Historically or Morally. Remember Argentina itself is conquered land with Patagonia being acquired well after the British took the Falklands. So in short it's bizzare Argentina's obsession.

Great list. Others items I would add are: NHS Roundabouts Wimbledon Red pillar box Red telephone box And a soft spot for typical London icons, such as black cabs, red double decker buses, London Underground. Though people’s opinion on using London’s public transport might differ.
@HolgerJakobs
@HolgerJakobs 4 ай бұрын
The NHS is in a pretty bad state. Roundabouts are to be found everywhere, they just turn the other way, because the UK is the only country not driving on the right side of the road. Red phone booths are no longer common, actually no phone booths at all.
@Zomerset
@Zomerset 4 ай бұрын
@@HolgerJakobs NHS is in a bad state, but that is because of the UK government. British people still love the NHS. Err…many countries drive on the left hand side of the road. 1/3 of the world’s population lives in a country that drives on the left. Either way, British people still love roundabouts. True, red phone boxes are no longer common, but they still exist. Some have been converted into flower gardens and some converted into libraries. British people still like to see them.
@EatSleepDreamEnglish

Agreed! I should have added the NHS. Brits do have a deep love for it as an institution as we saw during the pandemic when the nation came out to clap every Thursday night. Thanks for adding your thoughts @Zomerset

@@HolgerJakobsnot just UK. 100 years ago it was also in Sweden, Ireland, Portugal, Czechoslovakia and Hungary. Then it was changed obviously. And even today millions drive on left side like we do: in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ireland and lots of other smaller Commonwealth places like in Caribbean Islands.

I am never convinced by the negative opinion on the British weather. While I lived in London, I could even enjoy that especially in summer time when it had sunny days/blue sky (most days of course) for half of a year and people were possible to hang out until 10pm without darkness. You probably just need to cope with chilly mornings for about 3 months from Nov to Feb. By the way, I am a huge fun of Sunday roast. It makes me mouthwatering every time when I think about it.

I'll add these to something distinctively and uniquely British - self-mockery (actually sign of confidence); sarcasm and British humour (beating around the bush); follow everything American in action but mocking American culture in their mouth; hypocrisy (in good and bad intentions); crossword (perhaps more among the educated or elder)

One more: Cadbury chocolate, famous for its purple package, Easter bunnies and creme eggs. It's a very popular brand and its sales are very high in Britain, especially among children. Thank you, good video. I'll add a few as well. And since 'good old England' is done and dusted forever despite foreigners' naive expectations, I'll mention only what characterises today's UK (in my humble view). So, what modern Brits love: - copying everything American. Movies, culture, attitudes, style. Language. American English is replacing British. And yes coffee replaced tea as well - cartoons and everything Disney. Even banks and serious organisations portray life itself as one big cartoon. - rap, tattoos, vaping, swearing. Cheap ugly glasses and short dyed hair. - animals. Particularly big aggressive dogs of course, like XL American bulldogs 🐶 - complaining, whingeing, crying, reporting everything and arguing. Suing everyone too - foreigners, particularly BAME. It's popular and fashionable. All want to show that they, unlike their ancestors, are NOT racist, sexist, homophobic and misogynistic, totally opposite! - McDonald's. It became practically synonymous with food. Very few Brits cook. Massive fizzy drinks also - talking. Nowadays it's customary to talk nonstop about everything. Don't think, just talk! - Mandatory small talk. That's quite nice but can be annoying in customer service - being NICE and polite, never rude. Smile often, say 'awww', 'nice one', 'bud', 'hun' and other ridiculous things, otherwise you'll be considered rude and weird, practically mortal enemy - being conventional and doing everything by the book like everyone else. Never attempt to change established order, that sums up UK Government. - driving slowly in small cars, esp. white Toyotas - national parks, campervans and stately homes - everything GREY. All grey is super fashionable these days. Grey cars, grey clothes, totally grey houses inside and out, grey kitchens, grey decor, grey pets. - everything NICE LITTLE. UK itself is little and we always preferred all little as well, unlike Americans. Little homes, little hobbies, little income. Little life. - everything informal and simple - trains. Most blokes adore trains. - sex. Nowadays people are obsessed with sex
