Elo was made for chess and it is actually just a number that tries to give a objective chance on the likelihood of you beating another players. If they played 100 games it would probably heavy on wins for Nelson, a few dozen draws and possibly some wins, yes. He plays well for sure.

It would be fantastic if he played a stronger player just to see how they think but I doubt GM’s are too happy to reveal their thoughts

Yeah it was pretty even and had my endgame knowledge been better then the game wouldve been a draw. I'm just now getting to the point that my games are coming down to equal endgame play (getting to where I am now games usually end in the middle game to a tactic or blunder) so I haven't had as much experience in these types of positions:)

You gave up 2 pieces for the rook, gave black a passed pawn, and white's king is trapped, so what did you expect? But for me Stockfish only reads -2.25 at depth 33. BxR is fishy as hell ... take the bishop for an even game.

Did you even listen to the video? He can't take the pawn on f4 (not f5, Kf5 isn't a legal move) because Rf5 wins the rook.

Many times in competition you will see people refer to an opponent as "they." It is a way to make the analysis less personal and can be seen as more polite.

We play against the board so our opponent is black or white, rather than a person with a gender, and we refer to that abstract opponent as "they".

To respond to you im going to do it by sharing with you an homologous case (im 2200 just in case u call me a 300 who has no idea about chess). I play rocket league (a videogame) and im plat (maybe in terms of elo that would be like 1000-1200). I tend to think that people in my rank are much better than in diamond (the next rank) and more often than not when watching KZfaq videos of this other rank will say that i deserve to be there, because they make such obvious mistakes that I would NEVEEEERRRR do. The reality is that I do make them. Watching a video and finding the mistakes of the player once they are commented on does not mean that the player who made the mistake is a bad player. He's not, and we all do mistakes. The only difference is that he makes less mistakes and of a less order than magnitude than you, and that's why he's 1700 and you are 1400-1500 and im plat and not diamond unfortunately.

@@GrupoCiencias-xf2fs It's not that I am pointing out his mistakes when they are commenting, I can see in live action when that move doesn't look good at all. Actually, I do regularly beat 1500s and maybe 1600s, but I have a habit of going on game sprees, tire out mentally, and then play like a zombie and blunder consecutive games lol. I'm not looking to improve, it's just a fun hobby.

No you don't see better players at 1400-1500 level...white played a good game considering the nerves that come with a huge rating gap

This game was completely balanced until move 31 and then after that he gave me another drawing chance in which my endgame knowledge failed me. Not seeing g5 was a huge oversight but it happens to the best of us, there wasn't really any tactics to see and its hard to attack with such little pieces. I definitely should have thought about the endgame more than I did however but that's part of the learning experience:) h3 was definitely a wasted move but I guess I wasn't so sure how to proceed. I think as someone else mentioned in the comments here, the biggest difference between a player 1400-1500 and 1700 is just how often they make mistakes. I was 1500 just like 2 months ago and I believe the only thing that changed is I started paying attention to my opponents threats more and making less blunders
