Closing off the vents create buckets not only for wind but also for raindrops, it will spin in the rain.

Having spent decades in the wind and solar fields and having made dozens of windmills mostly hawt my gut feel tells me that this bubble probably is 700 times more efficient than solar, as long as you don't use a solar panel bigger that 5mm x 5mm and the solar panel has to be in the shade. Rob I see you only pointed the hair dryer at one side of the bubble. A bit of an unfair test if you ask me.

Yeah, I was gonna say: what a waste of time presenting what should be an "omnidirectional" rotor and testing it with only 2 directions of airflow, not even opposite to eachother (blowing on horizontally opposite edges of the device for example). Even better would be to stop the rotation after every direction test, before trying the next direction.

Conditioning the wind before it enters any turbine usually works (such as the Darwin turbine or turbines with ducts or flat surfaces all around them).

Hey Robert, Thanks for all your great videos. If I was to try and make a twisted serpent coil as in video 1869, what thickness copper wire would you suggest and approximately how long a roll is needed? I want to make one of your turbine/generator combos and was after a starting idea on other materials. Many thanks

I made the model and it only works with a narrow stream of air tangentially directed. Normal, wide based wind, resulted in no movement at all!

His "testing" with the hair dryer seems a bit biased for placing the "wind" in just the right location.

Hi Robert I have seen your video regarding desalination lately. Where you said that reserchers found out that, when boiled, saltier water tends to go lower and fresh water rises. Well the thought i did have... when you take a 7 meter hose fill it with water an rise it. With the upper end closed, upwards so that vacuum holds the water up. In the top most part of the hose the water is boiling in ambient temperature due to the pressure differential. I wonder if the salt would settle down wards ... if that works a clamp could be used to seperate the water. I mean that would be a version using a lot less energy

I would love to see a larger scale version made on a figur sheet metal forming machine. Fitted with one of your wind turbine cvt gear boxes and serpentine coil generators.

I imagine that with the same amount of wind that it captures less force.

- It appears in Rob's model that there is little to no "directionality" in the "circumferential" ducts.... (could be an optical illusion hut the entry and exit appear balanced... - At the end of the day - IF there is little energy available, little will be captured. (Dynamic to static pressure conversion is probably the best use of "steady state turbulence" in the urban environment... For real random "turbulent streams (non steady state) flutter devices may be useful in micro applications - with no prospect for solar power.)..

I had this idea of wind turbine which would reduce its surface area with high speeds and essentially close itself when the wind speed is high. Now why would you want to do this. First, it will protect the generator from burning when the wind speed occasionally goes up. And second, the generator can be smaller so there would be less resistance to spin when the wind speed is low (as it usually is in built areas). The Harmony wind turbine does the fancy folding thing, but I was thinking something more robust. Perhaps a centrifugal mechanism that will make the wings travel on top of each other. Like savonius, which would turn into a barrel in high wind.

Comparing the power out put of a solar panel and the O-Wind would be quite difficult and they operate using totally different methods. A solar panel uses light operating on when light illuminates the panel. The O-Wind operates using wind. Operating only when moving atmosphere (breeze, wind, gale, vehicular traffic, a ship at see). So, how does one determine which of the two methods is most efficient? It could be 700% more efficient because the method/s used to makes those comparisons have not been published.
@kf81135 ай бұрын
Maybe a new, salient measure would be *cost* efficiency. Cost over power produced over time. This too, however, would depend on the place where they are being implemented (e.g. low-wind sunshine vs dim and windy)
