One thing my family has done for generations (I learned different techniques from my mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother) is learn the basics of sewing. Similar to talking care of you car is taking care of your clothes. If you can repair a seam, hem, and sew on buttons, you can extend the life of your clothes considerably. If you can sew on patches, and fix holes, you older clothes can be worn as work clothes and save the good clothes for times you need them. Not that anyone needs to look sloppy-quite the opposite. If you can mend your clothes, they will stay nicer longer.

My husband and I were looking at getting a dog and a cat. We wanted a specific breed of dog. When we look at a pet store in the closest big city and we were shocked at how much they wanted. They wanted to try to help us get financing which I didn't know was a thing. We ended up going to our local shelter and love our furry babies. They have so much love and fill our house with joy!!!

One of my favorites that I got from my mom ( mother of ten). She kept a container in the freezer that she filled with ANY leftover. So a spoonful of greenbeans left, in the freezer, a half a porkchop, in the freezer, a stalk of cauliflower, a few pieces of celery or onion etc... Once a week she would make home made buns and a huge pot of soup with the freezer leftovers. We would each get a bun with our soup and one with jelly ( her homemade) for a treat. The soup varied but the buns were always fabulous and made the soup worth eating!

I try to do all my errands on Wednesday. Gas is usually cheaper in the middle of the week. Grocery ads just came out and the stores have all the sale item in stock. Its really funny my dentist & doctor usually have plenty of openings on Wednesdays. I work out 4 days a week - saving errands for Wednesday. My family & friends know my errand routine so I can help them out if needed. Most important it’s just Not that crowded. 👍❤️👵🏻

Chick-fil-A sauce is life in my house. I have found that a homemade version is just as good and is much less expensive. Roughly 2 parts mayonnaise, 1 part honey, 1 part yellow mustard, and a half part BBQ sauce is very similar to the beloved chicken sauce.

I live alone and hand wash all my dishes. I save money on my dish soap by having a pump soap bottle that will give you foam when you use it. I use my dish soap in the bottle with the water and when I want I wash a couple of dishes, I just pump the soap onto them and wash under the faucet. It lasts a long time! Usually one pump of soap is all I need. Then I use my big bottle of dish soap for a dishpan load of dishes. Enjoy your humor in your videos! Thanks for the tips!

I go 'curbing' where I cruise the neighborhoods for items left for city trash pickups. I found a case of shopping bags, I gave those to the local pet rescue thrift shop.I got bath light fixtures with the faucet and sink, 2 x4 lumber, cans of paint, boxes of nails and screws, concrete mix.etc Homes that are rentals are good sites to find these item.The owners are cleaning out and will fix it up to resell,whatever is left over will be on the street :)

Here's a tip borrow don't buy. I have two other single lady neighbors and we all have old houses. We will do simple DIY things on our homes. Often one of us will get a phone call saying "Do 'we' have a (fill in the blank with the name of a tool that you might need)." Between the three of us sometimes we have the item and don't have to go and buy it we can just borrow from each other. Also if it's something that you specifically know you will not need again and no one you know has to borrow you can rent a tool at many hardware stores or home centers. This also works for other things like lawn tools, countertop appliances etc. Don't buy an Instant pot or air fryer or the latest appliance before borrowing and trying it out.

My Camry has 178,000 miles at18 years old and it's in great shape. When I bought it I wanted it to last 20 years, almost there. When I do the math on how many car payments I have not made I smile real big.

LOL we had courses for dinner last night. I always use cold water in the washer. I live in Maine and our state has banned all stores from using plastic bags and if you don't bring your own bags they charge for a paper bag. It makes me cringe when I was all these hauls on KZfaq and everything is in plastic bags. It also helps me get my exercise because I get halfway into the store and remember my bags and have to go back to the car to get them. :)

ours banned bags at the end of last year. I don't mind because I was in the habit of using my own shopping at Winco and bagging them myself. But during the pandemic the stores stopped allowing personal bags. It took me a while to get back in the habit of bringing my own again.

Best tip. If weather permits line dry your clothes. I put my clothes in the dryer for two to five minutes to get the wrinkles out then I hang them on fuzzy felt hangers....no ironing and straight into the closet when dry. Make a clothes last FOREVER. I am 72 and this has saved me so much money over the years. Good excercise, clothes last longer, save on electric and gas bills, and clothes smell so fresh and wonderful. My two sisters and I all have three kids, ages 3 months - 16 years. All the baby gear, bikes, sporting equipment and bags of kids clothes have been rotating between us for the last 16 years. I LOVE seeing my 2 year old niece in a jacket I bought 9 years ago, now on child no 4. Don’t buy everything new for kids! Has been saving us tons of money.

As a librarian, I love it when people talk about libraries! You can borrow ebooks and audiobooks! Libraries now have streaming services FOR FREE. You can take classes through your public library and join interest groups (book clubs, knitting groups, and more). And that’s just the stuff we offer for adults. There’s just as much, or more, for kids. Last week, I did storytime for preschoolers, put together to go craft and STEM kits, showed elementary school kids how to block code, and updated themed kits for daycare providers. Public libraries are awesome AND FREE.

Many years of trash picking behind me, at the age of 75, I went today to my old neighborhood. Slim pickings today but I did get a battery operated porch light that works great and I like it. Can't tell you how many great things people throw away.

Also with regard to pets - if you are renting a home you have to take into account keeping your pet if you need to move. I have seen so many heartbreaking stories where people have to re-home their pets because the have to move and cannot find a pet-friendly rental. Worse yet are the stories of people who abandon their pets when they move. Your pet doesn't understand this - all they know is the person they love most in the world is gone and it's beyond cruel.

I have a friend who does something that I think is genius! She hit yard sales and bought drying racks for each bedroom and bath. She placed them over the heat vents in those rooms. When she did a load of clothes she would carry the basket into each room, hang up that persons (or rooms) clothes, and as the heat came on it would blow through the clothes. They dried quickly and it would add moisture to the air. Each child was responsible for folding their own clothes and putting them away. She would do the bathroom and kitchen things. It works really well for them. In the summer she uses her outside clothes line.

I love the library ❤️ I’m in a book club with friends and prefer reading a physical book rather than on my phone or a tablet. The library almost always has the book we choose to read!!

I read books online because I save on electricity not having to have lights on to read.. I just use a couple of night lights in one electric extension cord that hangs in front of mirrors..strategically placed to illuminate 3 rooms..also use solar lights that charge indoors and light up indoors. I live in Mn so I unplugged my refrigerator..savings..$35 a month.! I've checked it out with my electric company...I.plan meals to not need a fridge..use the outside garage for frozen items in a nice cooler...saving $ for an energy star rated small refrigerator.. so many of the small refrigerators actually take more energy than a larger if they are not energy star-rated

I had an Audible account and was spending about $20 a month on audiobooks. I recently found out I can check out audiobooks from my local library for free! Our library also has power tools, specialized cake pans (think Wilton cake molds), knitting and spinning kits. Wow! I am 4 years from retiring and trying to find every little way to spend less. We got a HUGE pack of cotton Bar Mop towels from Costco, and they are the best! Hardly ever use paper towels anymore and mainly only keep them for company who aren’t used to rags. When you have itty bitty guys spilling water and milk several times a day, it just makes sense to switch to something reusable. Also, toddlers can clean up after themselves much easier with a rag than paper towels, they will get distracted by the unrolling and you’ll have a pile of loose paper towels, and they still haven’t cleaned the juice.

Make your own dryer sheets with 1 ounce fabric softener, 1 ounce vinegar, 1 ounce water. Five cheap face cloths cut in half and put it all in an empty baby wipe plastic container. Replenish the liquid as it runs out and this will last you for years.

Love these tips- we do a ton of them already! Thanks for sharing! A few things we do here are - Pay bills online- stamps are expensive! Haircuts at home. Thrift stores /garage sales for clothes / housewares etc. Make work of eating out of the freezer- it's great to find deals on stuff but I need to consistently use what I have before I buy other stuff. We don't buy convenience foods- not even canned cream of something soups😂 way healthier! Turn down the thermostat at night- we live in Mi and run the house at 65during the day and 60at night. If we get cold we just throw on another layer. We don't have central air. We have a garden and can/freeze food for winter. We cloth diaper. We mend our clothes. Sure some things take more time but once you get in the habit it becomes second nature😅

Helpful tip when scoring pieces of furniture that is being tossed out from another person: please please please spray down with bug spray any and all furniture before bringing into your home. I had a friend pick up a bedding frame and a recliner, and ended up with a nightmare of bed bugs!!! It took her almost a year to get rid of them.

RE: Curb shopping I used to deliver newspapers, so I got first picks. I got: a pair of new lamps (shades needed dusting), a coat tree, 2 rugs, working stereo system, a case of tissue with ads on them, hoses, watering cans, brooms and mops, accent rugs and lot s of premium toilet paper. I was a wealthy neighborhood and the kids would buy a 24 pack of Charmin, use 4 rolls and leave the rest!

Investing in quality shoes is such a good tip. I used to go through those cheaper, foam bottom shoes every two or three months at around $40 a pair. I have those exact Brooks running shoes that I wear every single day and they still look brand new five months later. Also, having supportive shoes that fit properly has a big impact on your joints, your back, and overall health.

I learned that WD-40 stands for water displacement attempt number 40 and that using WD-40 lightly sprayed on a pair of brand-new shoes let it dry repeat two more times and your shoes last much longer

Talking about growing a garden over a lawn made me flash back to the 1963 movie "The Great Escape." While they were in the prison camp, they tried to escape by tunneling but they needed somewhere to put/hide the dirt so they started multiple garden boxes outside every housing unit. When they asked why they chose to grow a vegetable garden rather than a flower garden - they were told that although flowers are pretty - the fresh vegetables would be much more appreciated and useful! I completely agree! If I had an outdoor space - I would do a veggie garden for sure! Heather xo

I totally agree to use the dryer less. Most of my washes go on a rack outside on my balcony. Only if the weather is totally gross, I use the dryer. Energy is quite expensive where I live on this planet. I also drink tap water a lot, or make tea to my liking, cold in summer, hot in winter. This eliminates heavy carrying of sugared water. I wear my clothes and shoes until they are worn down. Last summer when I cleared my closet, I had to let go of a blouse I have worn frequently over twenty years. About 5 years ago I bought a pair of shoes that are still going strong and look good. Yes, I agree on the car. Where I live, I don't need a car. For all the money I save on gas, insurance, repairs, inspections, I can call a taxi, if needed. My last car was a SUV, which I bought at three years old, and I drove it 13 more years. Then I gave it away with a motor damage. The guy who fetched it was happy. Otherwise I would have had to pay junk-yard fee. And it is important to fix things early, before malfunctions grow into a total loss.

I have always washed my clothes in cold water. I also line dry them as well. My apartment does not have a laundromat or washer/dryer hook ups so I got a washer that is designed for tiny houses or campers. This little thing has saved me so much money by not having to go to the laundromat. All of these suggestions are great. Also most libraries offer auto books that you can listen for free on your phone or you can read books on your phone/tablet as well.

The only exception I have for the rotating of monthly streaming services is Hulu. They run a deal on Black Friday that makes it $0.99 + tax a month, however you can’t cancel it and restart it.

Adding something to the Car section - learn to wash and vacuum your own car. Learn to check and top up your fluids. And for *A+ sticky star credit* do your own oil changes and brakes. (Leave complex jobs to the pros). This is all route maintenance and will extend the life of your vehicle.

We use to live on a military base and they would do bulk trash day twice a year. They are my favorite times of the year. 😂 We’ve gotten a tv, bread maker, coolers and clothes for free! Ugh, I love when people get rid of stuff. 😅 One mans trash is another man’s treasure.

I make oat flour in my Nutribullet and add it to cheap pancake mix along with some flax meal and a little egg white protein making a copycat Kodiak cake mix without paying for the Kodiak name. Buy that stuff bulk and it lasts forever.

If you’re looking for used packing boxes in excellent condition, drive by houses that have recently been sold. I often find excellent boxes at the curb on recycle day shortly after the sold sign has been removed from the yard.

My tip is to eat out on a week day versus weekend bc there's so many more meal deals going on! We have lots of local restaurants that do dollar taco night, dollar pizza,beer specials etc to get more business on a weekday evening.

Instead of paper towels, I use Handi Wipes. They're reusable/machine washable, they're reasonably priced (I just found 36 for $7.50 at Lowe's), and I use them for wiping up spills, washing dishes, dusting, cleaning my flat surfaces, etc. , etc

I hit the reduced to clear area of the supermarket today. Ended up having home pizza for about $6- 2 adults 1, 13 year old (for the 3 bout to expire bases) and used up everything else from the fridge for toppings. Enough for lunch tomorrow.

In Missouri we have many free parks and museums including our world renowned St. Louis zoo, Art museum, and History museum! We can attend the Muny Opera and sit in free seats and watch live musicals! We have local community centers with low cost activities! I love the challenge of looking for low cost activities and shopping! I just sold my 2006 Kia Sorento for $450 and it didn't run anymore...drove it for 16 years!! Thanks for sharing ❣️

1. LA colors pressed hightlighter powder from dollar tree makes the best eye shadow! It makes my hooded eyes look so much bigger, and lasts forever. I use concealer on my lid as a primer and it'll last all day. 2. If you cancel hulu, netflix etc... They'll offer you a free month. Take it and then go to cancel again at the end of that and they may give you another free month, or at least you're only paying 6 months of 12 months.

I do all of these!! As far as laundry detergent. I have very sensitive people in my house. We are a farming/ tractor mechanic family. So we get really dirty. The absolute best laundry detergent I have found is Earth breeze. It legitimately works!! We get the unscented kind, you can set up where it comes as often as you need. I have it come once a month. Also it’s plastic free! No I don’t work with Earth breeze in anyway. I genuinely love their detergent. ❤️

I buy papertowels but the cheapest one they make like a 3 pk at Walmart for under $2. Everyone in my house knows DO NOT use papertowels to dry your hands, wipe down counters etc. They are for windows, mirrors, to dry/wipe out my cast iron pan and to pick up items that a towel would be a bad idea.

I bought reusable bamboo paper towels on Amazon and can literally through them in the washing machine. I was dubious but I have to say I like them now, I wash them about 20 times before I throw them away in my compost.

Here's my tip: our factories around where I live have "company stores." My husband works for Little Debbie's. They have a company store with discounts on the cakes, granola bars...yadda yadda. We also have a poultry plant where you can score deals on chicken, turkey, even beef and pork products. It is open to the public but you get a bigger discount if you work for them. However they do sell their factory knives and scissors (that they process the meat with) they are used but clean and you can find some really good stuff there! I have 3 knives and 1 set of scissors. 😊

My current vehicle is a 2001 Ford F-150 she has like 280,000 miles on her and she’s still running like new. As long as you keep up with them they will last a long time.

I bought a truck recently..keeping in mind that I may have to sleep in it I got one that is wide enough for me to lay down on the bench seat..motels are getting expensive. Now on new vehicles if you want to have remote start or if you want to have heated seats you have to pay a monthly subscription fee so I bought a truck before those things are added on and before interest rates go up dramatically

We use a 5-line retractable clothesline in our basement during the winter - it has been amazing! We have two drying racks that hang on the laundry room wall for the small stuff. Then we use a sunshine clothesline outside in the summer. My husband quickly converted to line drying his clothes even before we got married and I moved in. He moved my outdoor clothesline over to his house two days before the wedding - I tease him that he took it hostage so that I was guaranteed to show up at the wedding!

I find it enjoyable hanging clothes on the line outside in the summer. I'm probably the only one in my neighborhood who does that, but I don't care, and we don't have crazy high electric bills from the dryer running constantly.

I told my husband if we ever move that a clothes line must be put in if the next house does not have one. I did not grow up line drying but love it now!! And my kids know nothing different. (Husband grew up with a mom that line dried everything!)

I put an additional shower curtain pole in the center of the shower/tub. I hand light things on it AND also on the shower curtain rod itself (just pull it back)!

Love the tip about line drying clothes...I hang up nearly all of my clothes other than things like pj's and underwear. When things don't go in the dryer, they can last SO much longer...today I was wearing a sweater that I bought in 2003 and it still looks completely presentable

Our family members each pay for a select streaming tb program and then give each other the login information. One sibling does Hulu, another Netflix, Disney plus, so we are only ever paying for one service.

Downsize your living space .(we are empty nestors).It makes sense to live in the room where there is a thermostat for the heating season Set the temperature to a comfortable temp..cover the doorways etc .. I keep my thermostat at 73 degrees in my extra large kitchen that has a recliner a TV and a very small bed and by setting my thermostat at 73° sectioned-off the rest of the house is 55 degrees so I save a lot of heat money($50 mo)..If your home isnt designed to do this..redesign your room.. Think outside of the box.

Invest initially, save in the long run. I invested in a polarized pair of sunglasses 12 years ago! I just now replaced them. Also use your warranties!!! And rebates!!! Make a folder for physical copies and take pictures- label it the photo album on your phone and set a reminder every 4 months or so to go over what can be replaced for free! And to check on rebates!!

Trash picking furniture is my favorite way to source quality wood for future woodworking projects for free. Keep up the good work! Buying wood is expensive. Dressers, desks, shelves and tables all have lots of wood in them that can be up cycled into other projects.

When my uncle was stationed in Germany a few decades ago, he said people made it a thing of going around and recovering other peoples stuff left at the curb for trash; called "Junking." He got like new furniture; a brass bed, cherry wood dining set, etc. It helped a lot because when you go overseas for the military, they don't ship everything over for free. They furnished most of their home for free, and before they moved, they passed it all on to bless someone else. Win Win!

We love the library! They have great programs to utilize. I also use the Libby app so I always have a book or two to read since we live about 35 minutes from our library. We adopted our dog Peanut last Summer he’s 6 years old so we was a lot less expensive than a younger pup. He’s been the best addition to our family

We know many of our neighbors and often borrow things from each other. Tools, small kitchen appliances, books, random garden tools, etc. I don't bake very often, so I borrow my neighbors stand mixer when needed. She doesn't own a smoker, so she will use mine when she needs one.

I love all your tips! I have done and do many of these. The library is my favorite place to get books. Why pay for a book when you can get it free. I will add tho that I will buy a book if it is worthy to sit on my bookshelf! Also, thriftbooks is an awesome resource to buy used books for a decent price. On another note, I have been doing this for awhile of what you recommended of shopping in your house of items you already have. Last night, I had your video in mind and just threw a bunch of leftovers from my fridge and made a rice casserole from leftover Chinese food, taco meat, a can of cream of chicken soup (which is funny because the taco meat was beef) chopped up green pepper and onions and of course cheese! I love watching your videos and stumbled across them a few months ago!

I just love a good thrift store. Found 3 wreaths for different holidays. .just $5 for all 3!! I found a white cabinet for my sister and she refurbished it and now holds her crafts. Last week found a small but study bookcase. Took off the trashed back and gave a good dusting and now sis has a nice extra side table for her sewing projects. She taught me to look at thrifted clothing as material and not so much if it's my size. It can "grow" into something else. Thanks for the reminder of line drying. I have an awesome folding rack my sister brought from germany years ago and just found it in my shed. Gonna break it out and put it to good use and save some more $$$$. Thanks again.

I read that sometimes the fastest setting in your dishwasher, isn’t always the best, as far as water usage! Sometimes the slow cycle uses less water than the “normal” cycle. I love your videos!! Thanks for sharing this great information.

Yes, that's right. The Eco mode usually is the cheapest. Same goes for the washing machine. Even if washing takes longer washing machine and dish washer use less energy.

It’s called a Hope Chest! I had one when I got engaged at age 20. After we broke up it became my “Hopeless Chest” where I kept all the linens in the house. No kidding my kids would call it the hopeless chest when we put away laundry!

My best tip is STORE your goods appropriately, no point shopping the sales if you then leave the item in the fridge for a week then don't use it because it now looks gross or smells off. Oats are a must, add to casseroles and meats to increase the portion number, biscuits, apple cinnamon bakes, toasted oats on yoghurt, the list is endless, I have a whole cookbook dedicated just to oats, sweet, savoury and everything in between

Great tips, I don't grow any veggies as we live in an apartment. I seldom use our dryer, we now live in a much wetter climate than we used to, but I cloth diapered my daughter and didn't own a dryer, it was all line dried. I have free store cards that either give you money back or discounts on what you are buying. I also try as much as possible to buy clothes second hand, I have had fantastic success with kids clothes. I need to get a library card, I keep forgetting about that 🤦

This may sound slightly gross, but I save on aluminum foil by reusing the same one a few times. I mostly just use it for heating up things like frozen, already cooked chicken tenders and things like that. I'll reuse one small piece a few times, folding to a cleaner side if needed, and when it looks a bit dirty and oily after a few times I crumple it up. We also put the heat on lower at night when possible so it goes off less often.

I've stopped wearing a lot of makeup which has saved me so much money. I do a fridge clean out weekly and almost always have leftovers for lunch. It has been a huge help! I have been trying to teach myself to use the library more than buying books. It's hard when I'm in the middle of a series and the next one isn't available!

#8 my apartment building supplies hot water from an enormous tank in the laundry room. The hot water was too hot. Like burn you hot. So i went in there and dropped the temp to 125° (wanted 120°, but w/ 24 units I worried about running out in peak tines). The water is still too hot to get in without adding cold water, but you won't need medical attention if you forget the cold tap now.

I checked what temperature is safe to prevent legionella. You are spot on! Legionella grows best within a certain temperature range (77°F-113°F). To keep water outside the range for Legionella growth, it is important to keep cold water cold and keep hot water hot.

You really gave outstanding guidance here. It's really hard to pick out anything that's truly more important, but the car info is big. No, you don't "need" new cars. Good used works out fine. We've never owned a new car. I will admit that we do all our own maintenance and that's not something everyone can do. However, what you CAN do is that our Ms. Christine suggests: Take care of your car. Keep up with oil changes. Take care of tires - there's a recommended interval for replacement, plus keeping them inflated correctly helps with both safety and mileage. Power steering fluid, radiator needs. Send it through the car wash so all your windows are clear, and your finish stays nice. That way, if you want to sell it, it keeps its value. And take a day per month, and clean it out/vacuum it out nicely. Everyone has a GREAT resource in KZfaq. If you have questions about your car: watch videos to learn more. I'm not suggesting you rebuild an engine, but if you want to learn more about car stuff: People are there that are experts. Check it out to save money.

Depending on your geographic area. Drying clothes inside is ok in cold drier climates..not in the humid areas in the US.

I went on a whole shoe journey trying to find anything that had enough support, held up for any length of time, and didn't hurt my oddly sized feet. I ended up on Brooks after spending probably $1000 on all the other brands trying to find something that worked. I SO love Brooks.

Great tips!! I would add regarding car care, I live where we use salt to de-ice roads in winter so I temporarily sign up for an unlimited car wash for the three months and get the underbody wash. I drove my last car to 280K miles and sold it to a friend. It's still on the road, and when up on the rack, NOTHING had ever rusted or corroded out. Mechanics couldn't believe the age of the vehicle during tire change.
