24 Hours Later: Can My Tiny Forest Survive?

In today's video, I follow up on the urgent task of getting irrigation water to my tiny forest that I started yesterday. For the past 24 hours, the irrigation water has been flowing, but the big question remains: did it reach my 150 newly planted trees in time to save them from the scorching heat? Join me as I assess the situation and find out if my efforts were enough to protect my tiny forest from the relentless sun.
While monitoring the progress of my tiny forest, I also noticed a giant smoke column rising to the east. This could potentially be a wildland fire. I'll be keeping a close eye on this situation and providing updates to ensure the safety of the homestead.
In addition to these critical updates, I'll also be sharing some valuable homesteading tips. Today, I'll show you how to properly care for your fire shovel. This includes:
Cleaning it thoroughly with a rag
Sharpening the edges chisel-style using a mill file
Coating the wood handle with boiled linseed oil to preserve and protect it
Applying Ballistol to the metal parts to prevent rust and damage
Don't miss this action-packed episode full of crucial updates, unexpected challenges, and practical homestead advice. Your support, comments, and likes mean the world to me. Thank you for joining me on this journey and for being part of the Wranglerstar community!

Gotta love how resilient nature is. It has gone through every extreme imaginable on each end of the scale. All of it being created by a divine God who knew we needed it. I love that Cody sees the need for additional trees as well, when most people slowly but surely remove them as they expand on their property with buildings and ag fields.

So glad to see the freshly-planted trees spring back like that! Looking good, Cody. As I told Jeriah via chat, if you need extra hands in case of immediate fire threat to the property, reach out... it's a bit of a drive, but with some heads-up, I can get down there to assist.

You asked for us to let you know how we like the recordings done on the Iphone, I prefer the camera tbh. I think the environment your in is far too beautiful to not do it full justice with a nice camera, Some of us live in rather smoggy areas or places without so much wildlife, It's good to come and see the pretty colors and mountains that I could soon plant my feet on one day. So for the phone recordings id prefer it be at a minimum, but of course do what you see fit, I'm grateful for the content either way!

All Proho's word of caution with the boiled linseed oil if you apply with rags, they will combust on their own, so take proper care when discarding. This is pretty common knowledge in the woodworking community, but I was not aware of it as everyday knowledge growing up. Bourbon Moth on YT has a great video where he did a test on it.

You should be careful with any rag with polyurethane, BLO, or many other chemicals / solvents. Friend of mine was refinishing his floors and his pile of rags spontaneously combusted and burnt down his house.

I hope you are putting a metal roof on your cabin to help prevent your roof from catching fire from flying embers. Forget about any cedar shingle roof which is great for roof fires. Unless of course you will install a stand pipe system on your wooden roof for fire suppression. Then you can use your little fire pump trailer and hook it up to your stand pipe system.

The basic & practical advice for fire tool use & maintenance learned from a few years of government work is much appreciated, but where did that fire shovel come from? The USFS fire warehouse courtesy of the US tax payer? Nearly every forest firefighter usually has his/her personal stash of government fire tools.

People of my generation may look at maintenance of hand tools as "fanaticism", but that's because they do not have any conception of "lifetime tools". They are so used to buying a cheap shovel, using it for a year or so, and discarding it when it inevitably breaks that they have never learned that proper tools can last generations if correctly maintained.
