I also saw Kang Daniel last year and the show was soooo fun! He was super interactive with the audience. A girl had a "birthday girl" tiara on and he wished her happy birthday. The other girl had a polaroid camera, so he took a selfie and gave it back to her. My fav interaction was when he was about to start another segment but went back to take a quick sip of water. I think tripleS is being promoted quite well actually. They aren’t huge but for a group from a brand new company without that name brand label hype from the moment of debut they’ve already achieved a lot in the past year.

Regarding Hui's participation on Boys Planet, he's said numerous times it was his own choice - but, as your thumbnail says, Cube should be ashamed nonetheless. As far as we know, Cube had nothing to do with Hui's audition (nor did they with Jinho auditioning for Phantom Singer 4), but it has been implied Cube told Pentagon they would no longer be supporting them for Korean comebacks. A press release from the CEO indicated Pentagon would have a late 2022 Q4 comeback, and the members had been working on a comeback for months prior, only to have it never see the light of day. They had a few appearances that were presumably booked prior to this decision (AAA 2023, MIK festival in Paris), but otherwise no Korean activities from late 2022 to when members terminated in October 2023. They did release a Japanese EP in August 2023, but it could have been due to Cube's obligations to Warner Music Japan. Cube fumbled the bag with Pentagon, as they did with BTOB and CLC.

If you’re planning to do a video on the AI in k-pop, I’d love to see a proper explanation what idols/elements/music are actually AI and what is not, because it’s actually baffling that people in 2024 don’t know the difference and then will spread misinformation, leading to calling everything AI (I’m looking at you, people, calling PLAVE an AI group).

i think the way kpop companies are gonna prevent what happened to fifty fifty happening to them is by being more strict. there’s already a law being put in place to prevent supposed “poaching” from smaller companies. i would also imagine with what the fifty fifty girls revealed, some companies - esp. smaller ones - are gonna be more harsh w/ the way they treat their artist. i doubt most companies are gonna protect their artists as much as themselves.

Yes agree on the Everglow thing! I've been a forever since debut and I loved slay but something just felt so off about it. They always serve every comeback I think they just need to get their mojo back.

About opinion 10, I was just thinking about this the other day. Artists (as in painters, sketchers etc.) like Hyunjin and Minghao should be more involved in the creation of the album covers. Not only would it make it more personal but it would also stand out because of how unconventional some of the artists' art styles are. Also Seulgi with her solo work would be the perfect example of artists involving themselves in every aspect of their body of work. About opinion 11, I think if kpop companies want to successfully break into the international marker, they should look into what has been bubbling under for the last end of 2023: artists that remind people of artists from the 2000s. For example, Tyla has been getting a lot of Rihanna comparisons, Tate McCrae with Britney, Chloe with Beyonce. It's clear that the 2000s nostalgia is more rampant now than it has ever been. If the kpop companies could (somehow) model one of their groups after one of the groups of the 2000s (a great example is the FLO and Destiny's Child comparisons), they could at least last a few years while the nostalgia is still rampant.

I think it would be so cool to see artists working on that side of kpop since we have enough of artists being involved in music production aspect but there is more to kpop than just music production so like imagine artists being involved in styling their outfits,video editing,directing, choreography making,album cover designs etc

I think part of Weki Meki's problem that we don't really talk much about is that I.O.I. weren't as successful as we portray them to be. They were successful for k-pop fans but not for bigger audience, like, Iz*one for example. I.O.I. disbanded at times when big shift of public's interest towards k-pop was just progressing. And even if you look at soloists such as Chung Ha, Somi or even Sejeong their main source of fame wasn't I.O.I.. I would say it is quite vise versa - their names attracted new audience to already disbanded I.O.I. So they basically needed something more than having I.O.I. members. Good management, for example :_)

great video and very thoughtful insights. here are a few of my kpop opinions - 1. i feel there is going to be a major shift of opinions / trends that going to have very large impact in kpop, but those opinions/trend will come from the west and not from korea 2. kpop is an a tipping point regarding lip syncing, either lip syncing is going to explode even more OR the backlash is going to bring down a few big 4 group 3. gg are going to start moving away from the cute / childish concept towards a more mature and sexy concept like in gen 2

With the rise of AI in music production, I think we are going to see groups with more creative control start taking a more experimental route. I saw another KZfaqr talking about pop in general saying the same thing, and they compared it to the rise of abstract art after the creation of photography.

I love watching the recording behind the scenes of Red Velvet. We know they are amazing but I think a lot of people don't know that yeri and Irene are also very good singers even though they don't get as much singing lines as the other three. I'm still desperately waiting for SM to give them solos. It's so disappointing to see how SM treats their idols. They did announce that they plan on giving Wendy a solo comeback this year and I really hope they keep their word

When it comes to Weki Meki, i always forget that they had their debut like 6 or 7 years ago. I always think they debuted during the pandemic. I don`t know why xD Maybe it`s because they barely have comebacks and so their discography isn`t very huge.

Ive grown to like Slay, i enjoy it a lot, but what i like the most about their new album are the bsides, i am very satisfied and grateful for the new album after waiting for so long, hopefully we will not have to wait this much anymore.

In 2022 there's a virtual idol girl group that debuted named Verse'day besides superkind with it's virtual member, (and probably 1-2 more that I don't remember). In 2023 besides more well known ones like PLAVE & MAVE:, There have been ØXONE, LUVDIA, Aesther, Stardays, For The More, Feverse, V_Hana & Heartsteel (probably some more but IDK). So it's already happening. Also iii released their pre-debut song Forbidden Midnight where the company tried to make the members look edited

going onto number 8 if im seeing an artist live i just wouldn't go to a concert since why would i pay for them lip syncing when i can just watch them preform on KZfaq it wouldn't really be worth spending money on it in my eyes i want to hear live music at a concert

Back in the day the dancing wasn’t hard apart from the dance breaks that the main dancers who 99% weren’t main or lead vocalists would do which is why they sang live, nowadays the problem with singing live isn’t the intense choreography it’s the fact that all of the members, some who aren’t as capable as the others, join in with the difficult choreography which makes it hard to balance dance and vocals

I agree that slay felt wrong, slay just felt like another version of dun dun just a little bit more powerful, we didn’t get a logo teaser and all my girls was only a single after 2 YEARS.

Nwjns has the potential to reach BTS/Blackpink level of success and I really believe it's going to happen. Just the impact they've had not only in the kpop industry but internationally is crazy. How quickly and easily they've gained international acceptance just proves it. How critically acclaimed their music has been in the west is something to behold.

My opinion to your live singing opinion: I also think that some choreos are too difficult to sing live to but then I see groups like Stray Kids, Dreamcatcher, BTS or NMIXX (I guess) having difficult choreos but still sing live I`m not sure if I`m fine with my own opinion xD But I like how Pixy are doing this for their shows and concerts. When I saw them live last month, they sang fully live for songs without choreo and almost live with background vocals (if this is how you say it, i hope you know what i mean) for songs with choreos and it was fine. Pixy have very hard choreos. IN their wings choreo for example they make the same spine breaking move like NMIXX have in their O.O. choreo and i think it`s impossible to do this move AND have stable vocals. In the concerts you still were able to hear their voices singing. So I`m very conflicted in this topic. I see why lip sync is needed sometimes but some idols even do lip sync when they sit on a chair (IVE, I`m looking at you) and don`t do anything and i really wonder why they use lip sync there. Girl, you`re just sitting. Can`t you even sing when you`re sitting or what?

People saying oh the choreography is hard as an excuse for why idols arent singing well is not good cause there are people in the theatre who do musicals who do complicated choreography and sing live so....

Here are my thoughtsssss: 1: I think whenever we have already debuted idols who are like full on big idols rejoin into these shows it’s unfair for trainees 4: AI going to be alot of drama like when it came to the bangchan issue in 2023, a lot of fans also used deepfakes of the minor members of ive to attack the girls as well. 10. I def think it would be cool if alot of stylish idols make fashion brand. Like I loved watching the buzz feed series when idols style this one girl for a week. Some of those outfits were so cool and I can’t imagine if they had their own fashion brands like all of ateez outfits just devoureddddd. 13: Soyeon is so creative and talented. She just shocks me every time and I admire her hard work so much. 16: Fifty fifty was done dirty. I’m sorry but this case is still fishy to me cus even keena story doesn’t line up and she most likely just got promised to get the money from Cupid if she came back and was still able to become an idol. 21: THANK.
