In the middle of last month, my husband of 7 years fell ill. The local urgent care told us that he had a cold and to go home and treat the symptoms. But colds don’t give you raging fever with chills and lethargy… so at the beginning of December we took him to the emergency room where he was diagnosed (almost too late) with sepsis. He spent 3 days in the ICU fighting for his life. A fight that he won!! So that is my gratitude for this year. That I get to end it with him whole and on the mend.

Between you, Dawn and Dana I have transitioned from a fear and anxiety riddled woman with a debilitating chronic illness, to someone able to embrace who I really am. I still have moments of “fantasy me” but I now appreciate those who have those abilities and skills and love who I am created to be. I have a wardrobe that cocoons my post menopausal shape, I’ve booted ALL the guilty/shame/ rejection stuff and toxic people, and you have been essential for helping me be a loving, tender human who has dropped the chains and is living FREE! I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 40. I'm 49 now. I finally got the courage to do some online classes which terrified me because school was a nightmare for me. I spent 1/2 my middle school years in detention and my teachers told my mom I would never make it passed the 10th grade because I was so stupid. Well, guess what - I got A's. Unfortunately, I got COVID and was unable to complete my last 2 block courses which sucked, but I learned I am not stupid like I was always told. This was my big win for 2023! I love you Cas and your channel!

This makes me sad that teachers weren't clued in that not all people learn the exact same way and voiced such degrading opinions. I too deal with ADHD and maybe a hearing processing problem? But the truth of the matter is that we all can learn once we're given the right environment in which to learn. Well good on you!...You were always capable!

My major achievement for 2023 was joining the take your house back class and started my declutter journey. When my mom passed away in 2018 I ended up relocating and moved to a one bedroom apartment with both my stuff and my moms. I retired in March, then took a month off and traveled with my bff for a month. An amazing trip. When I got home had some issues with my shoulder so couldn’t do much for over a month. I have RA so mobility and long term standing were issues for me with trying to keep my space clean and the thought of starting to tackle the stacks of totes just really overwhelmed me. Then Cass said something the clicked. “FIVE MINUTES MATTERS!” What an eye opener. That day I set my timer for 5 minutes. I had the dishes done and the timer hadn’t even gone off…. Cleaned the stove and put away silverware. Timer went off and I thought “well just let me finish cleaning out the dish drainer. 😮. I was shocked by what I could accomplish. Now mind you I did need to grab a water and sit down… my back was killing me! Late that day I did it again!!! By the time the course came around I had all the “daily” things done so I could start on the totes. Trash bag, donate and keep boxes in hand I began to start in my “literal” WALL OF TOTES. Four wide and 4-5 high in some places. In those two days I had cleaned out 8 totes. Hauled out 6 garbage bags had 3 donate boxes and two keep! THANK YOU CASS!!! And the whole community. I am not finished yet but have continued. ❤❤❤

My close Japanese friend died of colon cancer in February 2023. Several months earlier I designed and crocheted the Totoro family of toys for her to give to her 3 year old granddaughter. 2 months earlier I designed and made her daughter's Western/Japanese wedding gown. With the remaining fabric I made her a kimono 👘 to be viewed in prior to cremation. I could not prevent her death, but I could bring her joy during the final months. 😪🥰👍I miss her but was grateful I had skills to share that honored her life and family.

I finished five projects recently, and I'm starting two more. Very excited. So excited that I am displaying all of my beautiful yarn in my family room in a display case, so I can see what I'm going to be using and design around what I already have. I can't wait.

My husband and I retired in 2023. So exciting. And what you said about family heirlooms - I’m 66 and my dad passed away 14 years ago and left his stuff with my stepmom. She’s been passing stuff on to me and I’m slowly getting rid of it. It’s not my style and I don’t have room to store it and nobody else wants it. I have a sibling who is a minimalist and one in prison, so I just donate or sell the stuff. I love blessing others. My own collectibles are in one display cabinet in my craft room and I enjoy looking at my things everyday. And my kids know they have permission to get rid of it all when I’m gone. Thanks, Cass, for all you do for me and everyone else who watches you. You are a blessing in my life and I appreciate you more than you can know. Here’s to a great 2024!

Yep, this video us totally me. I have a lot of interests, polymer clay went the same way as Cass' polymer clay, into the trash bin. I did buy all the stuff you supposedly need to create with polymer clay, by this fall my clay had gone rock-hard, the softeners totally evaporated, so I tossed it all together with the tools and beautiful books explaining how you can create all the gorgeous art. Nope, I haven't, I can't, I never will. I'm hooked on other types of crafts, like paper cratfting, drawing and watercokor, knitting, crocheting, embroidery and beading. That are loads of interests. I'll need to make time for sleeping and eating (not stuffing my face with junk food) in between as well. I also have clothes that are too tight because my body expanded, and clothes that fit but (1) are not exactly my colors, (2) cannot be combined well among each other (even though I liked the color when I bought it, or worse, I could combine them but with clothes from a different season, like summer pants with winter T-shirts, pullovers, blouses, or vice versa, you get it). In 2023 I made it a rule (which I actually stick to) that I don't buy a clothing item, just because it catches my eye, the color and /or pattern are fabulous, it's a real bargain, I need to be able to know at least two other matching items I already own when I'm looking at it in the store. It can be tough, because that Item is sooooo cute... But cute or not, it will use real estate in my closet. BTW, to get at this level of decision making took me about three years to arrive at. I'm a kinda slow decision maker. The more frequently I apply my rule, he easier it gets. Cass, as always a video full of tips you can actually use. I can relate so much because I' struck with ADHD. Sending lots of love 🤩 {Edit} My greatest victory in 2023 was to declutter by books. The three large shelf units, each about a yard wide with five shelves in each, I freed up so much space by ridding myself of books collecting dust, that my previous fear of not having enough room to store all the things I really want, went up in a sprinkle of fairy dust. I do have enough space This was especially hard because my books were sort of "sacred" items. I did remember the situation when I bought them. Nonetheless, I freed up half the space in my shelving units. Remember the Pepto Bismol commercial decades ago? "Oh, what a relief it is!". So true.

I have watched so so much of your content and love it :) Thanks for sharing the message that we ARE good enough and improvements like decluttering aren't because we are losers. They are because we deserve a beautiful life. You are inspiring!

Cas, I absolutely love and adore you! You have helped me purge SO much with your words of wisdom! I hear you as I'm clearing out! BUT, to hear you speak so badly of yourself, about your weight, your arms, your face, it breaks my heart because I don't see ANY of those things! You are a beautiful, bright, intelligent, and helpful woman that's out here trying, and succeeding, in helping so many others! Let me just say, now I know how it sounds when I bash myself, about my weight, my face, my arms, my ADHD and "laziness", and I've always heard people say, "Would you ever say the things you say about yourself to someone else"? No, I can assure you, neither one of us would!! Why do we do this to ourselves? We both sound incredibly insecure and we have to try and stop that!! You're amazing and I love all of your advice!! Happy 2024 Cas! ❤

I discovered that I have adhd. At 55 this was a big moment. Such a relief. My husband is so understanding and finally gets me! He’s done lots of research to support me too! We also, after many years, finally laid new flooring in our lounge and hall..and we did it all ourselves! So proud of us. Our daughter who has ASD left school and it’s such a relief for her. She can be herself now and she is flourishing.

Remove from the closet clothes that don't fit. Aha! I had just decided to do that. I even have an empty underbed drawer waiting for those items. And I tossed underwear with stretched out elastic. I am FINALLY feeling well after 3 years in bed, so I have a badly neglected house. It is hard to know where to start, but one bite at a time will get me there.

You can do this! I'm in the same place...only it is a bit longer. Around 5-6 years. I am trying to do it one box or bag or pile at a time. If I get that done, I am happy. Don't pressure yourself too much about what needs to be done. Set small reasonable goals and do it. If you can do more, you'll feel better. I learned making lists of stuff only bullied me and made me feel bad if I couldn't get it all done.

@@resarm5007 @maryellenyork2819 For me it's been almost 7 years very constrained by health problems (mind-boggling!) and a pile in the kitchen got higher than the counters! Yikes!!! But I had an epiphany that simple deconditioning from being ill so long is a FIXABLE issue that will hugely improve my life, and now I'm looking at decluttering as part of my physical rehab program. 😄 Win-win! Things that have been helping me: 1) Onion Method of *easiest* stuff first (clutter muscles get stronger with practice : - ) 2) Setting Process vs. Outcome goals so I always have a "win" 🤩 e.g. "Look for things to let go of for X minutes on timer" (e.g. 5 to 15 minutes) vs. "Clear out closet" I have a weird affection for my visual timer now! lol 😃❤⏲ *3) Temptation Bundling with something enjoyable during/afterwards (game changing!!!)* 4) Reminding myself that just sorting through items can be anxiety-SOOTHING because Knowing what's there and Taking action can both make things feel less overwhelming < : - ) 5) Reminding myself that the discomfort of letting go of harder things passes, and the GOOD feeling of having less stuff LASTS : - ) 6) Scheduling decluttering with electronic reminders instead of waiting to be inspired because motivation usually comes *after* action, not before it : - ) 7) Starting with areas in my direct eye line from wherever I spend the most time so I'm constantly reminded that I've *already* made progress and can continue to do so! I also like to prettify surfaces with a plant or picture or something to motivate me to *keep* it clutter-free. ; - ) 8) Visualizing before I start how much better I'll feel just to have taken action, and how GREAT it will feel when I've crossed my clutter threshold and my house feels peaceful and easier to maintain! Huzzah! 🤩 Godspeed and good wishes! Amazing things are possible with time! 🌈🌱🌿💐🍀💖

Loved this. It motivated me to get up, get out my sewing kit and mend a pillow that I have moved off/on my bed for the past 3 years - that had a small tear in the bottom. Every day - 2x a day I would touch this pillow and I had the fleeting thought that "I should sew that up", but I did not. Your comment about unfinished projects really hit home and was the needed motivation to get it done. Took all of 5 minutes to do it, but boy did it make me feel powerful and liberated. :) Thank you Cas. Hope 2024 is a wonderful year.

The end of May, I moved 3,000 miles across the country, from Southern California to upstate New York! It was the best thing to happen in my life (after getting my little kitty boys [2]!); lots of decluttering happened during the packing period, but more has occurred while getting settled in our new home. My sister is just around the corner (we live in a 50+ community), and we communicate and visit each other multiple times a week. There’s so many fun activities and wonderful people living here, definitely Living My Best Life, now! (It’s taken a long while, I’ll be 68 next month. Definitely worth the wait!)

Uggh, you hit on so many things I am dealing with. As soon as I get off work tomorrow, I plan to use my holiday days off for getting rid of the old and start with a clean slate in the new year! No more will I let jeans, blouses, gadgets, ribbon, journals, lotions, nail polish, and home decor bully me. Goodbye clutter, hello peace. Plus, I am gearing up to chalk paint my dresser and night stand. I have incorporated my workout into my workday/weekend. I leave work, go to community center and walk 2 miles, then drive home. Cook dinner, clean and prep for next day then do weights before showering. It is part of my day and I don't feel like I'm lazy anymore. If it rains, no problem.....as long as I do 5 days of walking and every other day weights, I feel successful. I don't want to stress about a strict schedule. I'm more motivated when I feel like it's my choice, not my chore. Happy New Year! North Florida (near Tallahassee) needs you! I'd love to attend an event hosted by you.

In 2023, I finally admitted that the apartment I’m living in is bigger than I need. The size simply provides plenty of room to save/hoard so much STUFF! So I admitted this to myself and my daughter, found a new and smaller apartment - closer to my daughter (she has some disabilities and doesn’t drive the distance to where I’m currently living) and then admitted to a friend of my daughter that I would accept her offer of cleaning and moving assistance. We’re getting close! I pick up my new apartment keys in less than a month. I’m excited - and terrified - for my new life in a lovely, newly built apartment community, just five minutes from my daughter! She has promised to assist me in reducing my possessions further and holding me accountable to my new lifestyle in a lovely new place. Bring on 2024!

I totally get the thing about being at the point where you’re hyper-aware of aging. I’m older than you are, and I’ve been struggling with that for several years. But you, Cas, are beautiful! I’m not saying that in an “everyone is beautiful, in their own way” way, I truly think you’re beautiful! Just seeing your face cheers me up on crappy days, makes me feel like maybe I stand a chance of getting my sh- together and being okay. Your smile is amazing, your facial expressions are so cute and funny and ALIVE, your eyes are expressive, your hair is pretty, you’re great at choosing clothes that make you look stylish and pulled together (I feel like I look frumpy no matter what I do). Honestly, I would be totally happy to look in the mirror and see your face looking back, and if I was a guy I would wish you could be my wife. Your husband is lucky to have you, your kids are lucky, YOU are lucky, and we are lucky to get to spend time with you. I know it can be hard to believe sometimes, but you really are pretty, and my wish for you is that as you get older you can truly believe you’re only getting better, because it’s true. 🩷🩷🩷

I adopted a two year old English bulldog this year. I have wanted one since I was 15, I turned 40 a few days ago. I gave up on that dream a long time ago but in a crazy couple of days suddenly I had this dog who I wasn’t looking for and now is my best friend. Everyone says how strange it is because you could never tell she was adopted older that it’s like I raised her from a puppy and my daughter says it’s odd seeing me with her because I’ve never been much of a pet person (something else for mom to take care of) but with this dog I come alive lol and apparently so does the dog. They tell me she doesn’t do much until she hears my car pull in the driveway then she jumps up and waits at the door until someone checks to make sure I’m parked and they open the door so she can run out to greet me. This happens every day and it’s the best.

Cass, every video of yours lifts me up with joy and more confidence. My gratitude for 2023: in June my spinal disease took me to the lowest point, I had to get a walker. I found a new pain doctor, I did the epidural shots, but after 20 years of dealing with DDD (degenerative disc disease) maintenance was no longer working. Following my new doctor’s advice, I persevered with eliminating certain things from my daily life. Cass thank you for reminding us things CAN make us feel a certain way when they're in our environment. If they dont bring joy, then we need to decide WHY and maybe it is time to let go. My gratitude is for my pup Romeo. I had to take my girl to the vet and help her across the rainbow bridge last year in September. 15 years with her. I was devastated. Truly devastated. An out of state friend sent me a small gift. It was handmade and it conforted me. A year later I felt ready. And it was almost a year to the day she passed over that iI brought home Romeo. He is such a dollface peanut. Everyone loves him and he has become my "clingon" dog. I didn't think I would ever find another dog that would make me feel a certain way, but he does. It is a good feeling but it also hurts so bad when it is time to let go. I am so grateful for him! I type this as he snores softly next to me. ❤
