24-Year-Old Tree House in Danger of Being Torn Down

The Boney Island Treehouse was once part of a Halloween attraction that drew so many visitors to this California street, the city shut it down in 2017. Owner Rick Polizzi stopped the haunted house, but kept the three-story treehouse. Polizzi says he has spent $40,000 over the last seven years working with city inspectors to modify the treehouse. Because he has not torn down the 24-year-old structure, the city has filed a criminal complaint against him for non-compliance.

Why does our government care about things that does not matter. People can't afford to eat commute to work have kids, we don't even have healthcare. Our kids education is going down hill. Violence is running rampant in our communities. Violent crimes against women continues to increase. BUT yes let's be concerned with a tree house.

The city wants it surveyed and ground samples taken to determine how stable it is and making it a historical landmark doesn’t change the fact they want to ensure its stability. The Fox theatre in my hometown was so old the city condemned it and then a group of citizens bought the theatre and some land next door, developed the next door land into restaurants whose rent payments would go to the Fox theatre foundation and be used to slowly but surely bring the entire theatre back up to code and during that time the city realized that the donors had invested so much money into the theatre that a lawsuit would not only cost taxpayers too much and make the entire town angry so they made the theatre a historical landmark but on several occasions over the course of twenty years the theatre would try to reopen and fail building inspections and had a rat infestation that to this day hasn’t been dealt with and now 35 years later, the theatre exists but nobody can go inside because the building is still not fit to enter.

When I was a kid a number of decades ago, I was excited to grow up and have my own home and family. The system has made it impossible or miserable for me to do either. I wish we could go back a few decades when there weren't so many rules, bills, and loops to have to jump through.

California needs to go after all the illegal immigrants, druggists and homeless people living and popping on streets and making homes/ tents anywhere they want first before going after the generally law abiding citizens. But in this case this resident needs to follow the city laws as well. Imagine other people asking/ demanding for different accommodations tomorrow and not obeying the aw resulting in the disruption of these very citizens’s lives.

I would understand where the government was coming from if the treehouse was just ugly and not being maintained. Or if he just filled it with trash and stuff, but it looks amazing? There might be a loophole for him to exploit. It might be some construction modifications, such as closing off the door or something similar. I had to deal with local authorities on building codes for an attached garage--and made adjustments after reading the detailed info.

There's a house in my neighborhood with a garage that isn't counted as a garage due to a loophole in my state law, he used barn style hinged doors instead of a garage door and put a little extended roof over the door, by law it's an "enclosed porch" that he just happens to keep his Corvette in 😂

Too many people go someplace for Halloween and the city stops it from happening? That sounds like some of those neighbors claiming to support him were complaining. And I get needing a permit, hell you need a permit in most cases to have a deck on your house, but to call this a single family dwelling? geezus.
