Nice work. I don’t know your CNC mill but I have a HAAS VF4Ss. Get some Kennametal KOR5 end mills and you should be roughing your parts out at 3 times or more the speed that you are doing in the video. My spindle is 30hp and I don’t have enough power to push those end mills. I also use CarveSmart vice jaw system. You can make super nice soft jaws with them. I have spanned two Kurt DX6 vices with their dovetail soft jaws. Very repeatable.

Yeah thanks. It's been a couple years and we're not using that workholding or tooling or feeds and speeds any longer. That was early and our first major project using the mill.

@@pdxcnc It has taken me a while to figure out how program parts better. Titans of CNC got me into pushing my machine and tools. I use SolidCAM for SolidWorks now and it has proven to be fantastic. Expensive but great.

Have you looked at drip feeding the control to get around the internal memory limitations?

Yep. It’s really limiting too. We can’t find any way to resume a program without restarting from the top while drip feeding

@pdxcnc
@pdxcnc Жыл бұрын
Hey. Each machine would have it's own unique needs for upgrading to ATC. Our machine came with that feature pre-installed, we only upgraded the number of tools and how they are held for auto-tool changing. Best case would be to talk to your CNC manufacturer I'd think.

I assume there is a reason, but by having the machine load the tool then slid further back on the table, are you not loosing a few more working inches on the table?
@pdxcnc
@pdxcnc 11 ай бұрын
Ohh, maybe. That tool change travel is roughly 2 inches and I prefer to have the tools "guarded" by the tool rack instead of the work area which tends to have more chaos especially when loading heavy or large materials onto the table.

Why did you make it backward, while tool changing? You loose workspace putting the toolholder casein that way.
@pdxcnc
@pdxcnc 6 ай бұрын
That’s a very relative question. It’s not backwards, the machine was setup that way originally. It’s exactly the same amount of usable space either way and keeping the forks face Y+ tools are protected from what happens in the work area

Awesome project. Curious as to why you made the tool holders a one piece design. A two piece design would save on material and machining time. This is an honest question, not a dig.
@pdxcnc
@pdxcnc 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Good question. Definitely could have saved some material by making them individual items. We wanted less pieces to try to align and keep aligned, thus multiple items connected. In a production part, there's other ways to do this, but for our purposes we liked 3 pedestals physically linked.
