So in the past all the 87g Vmax bullets I have loaded have been with H4350 or Reloder 19. Since the 95g TMK's shot so well with the IMR4831, I decided to load up a few 87's with it.
Shooting 4 shot groups starting with 42.6g, going up .4 increments to 43.8g. Using Win Brass, CCi LR primer, and 2.640" Overall Length.
Savage Model 12 .243
Primary Arms 4-14x44

Load #3 has potential. SD of 10 is great. I'd bet you could get that to shoot under 1/2" if you played with bullet seating depth just a little.

I enjoy your video's. For load testing, shooting off of sand bags or a rifle rest offers huge accuracy increases over shooting off of a Harris Bi Pod. Also, the bullet is in the barrel for about .200 of an inch while the gun is under recoil. So, reaching up and pulling back on the forearm of the stock instead of squeezing the rear bag offers even more accuracy. I cool the barrel with a mix of 50/*50 water and rubbing alcohol, rubbed with a dripping wet rag on the outside of the barrel. Those 4th and 5th shots really heat the barrel up fast, and like wise lays down more copper fouling. Hope this helps! 2

87 gr vmax, in my opinion, is one of the nastiest bullets ever made. I hit a crow dead center in the chest at 150 yards and it literally evaporated. I want to get another 6mm caliber rifle just so i can shoot this bullet again! haha. Cool video man thanks.

Try shooting nosler 55 gr bts with h414 powder. Scary accurate with wide accuracy node on powder. I had no sign of pressure even at max. I would shoot mine a couple grains below max (mentioned in nosler manual) for safety and to be easier on barrel life. Was also best group for me. 0.262 incjh. Just a suggestion. The 87grain V-max also liked h414 also it gave less than half inch groups also. Good luck.

My experience with the 87 GN V-max shot out of the Savage 9.25 twist is about the same as yours. The best I can get is about 1 moa. I recently started shooting a 6mm Creedmoor with a 8 twist and the groups tightened up using the 87GN V-Max. I think the limiting factor is the twist rate of the Savage. I enjoy your videos, best regards.

I have had real good luck loading them with Reloder 19. The Sierra 95g TMK is my bullet of choice now. I have shot several 2-3 inch groups at 500 with them.

Hey there great channel!!! We farm to but only cattle except for silage. I got a lot of older stuff in Remington 700, no.1 ruger and a couple of Winchester but I bought a ruger American in a.223 compact which I heard they didn’t offer in a.223 any more. I picked it up about 8 years ago and put a old leupold vx-II 6x18 I wasn’t using took the allen key adjustment screw out of the trigger and it’s pretty amazing and was hoping for you to try one on a video sometime……Thanks

What happened to the 4350? I shoot 87 gr. fur savers, 42.5 grains IMR. and well pleased with two thru same hole @ 200. Been doing it since the 70's, 1968 Rem.700 Bdl.

Hey Josh it appears that you used the Hornady data when you developed these loads, your best group was 43.4 grs and a .897. Have you though about adjusting the OAL? Maybe 2.645 that would 5 thousand closer to your rifling.

Awesome video as always. Didn't notice it on your videos list? Have it posted as unlisted? And of course found it through TRN. There's something very peaceful about that shooting spot. Load development seems very easy going there lol

I haven't released it yet. I post it to the Patreons as soon as it's uploaded, then I try to release it to The Reloaders Network usually a day before it goes live.

I noticed that my body mass is the recoil receiver. I noticed also that recoil can't be stopped, but must be managed. I want my recoil receiver to obsorb it with the least amount of change or influence to my structure from the recoil. If i center my body mass and square my hips and shoulders at a perfect 90° behind my rifle, my groups got better. It's unnatural. And frankly feels less comfortable. It feels more natural to have your body to the left side of the bore to create more shoulder pocket. But it makes you a less functional recoil receiver. Once i started this, my poi shifted to the left and i realized my poa was canted to adjust for it. 90% of people align there body canted sideways to the left. (Or there weak side) to form a more pronounced shoulder pocket, but they are now not directly behind and there mass isn't centered behind the recoil energy. Like i said, it's unnatural, it takes conditioning to change it from what feels "natural!" Try squaring your hips and shoulders at a bench and tell me if I'm wrong.
