Love this idea, Josh. We did something similar when I played high school ball. We called it a "Jamboree", and it was a couple of shortened exhibition games with modified rules for tackling and special teams (for safety purposes). You would only play against other teams from your immediate area (so no one had to travel far), regardless of school size or talent level. It was a great way to assess your team early and get some much-needed "live" action under your collective belts before the actual season started.
@johnlee7085
@johnlee7085 Ай бұрын
A couple challenges of playing real games in spring is scheduling and player availability. Teams have spring ball on widely varying timelines. Some are practically done before others have barely started. The big one though is losing players to graduation, portal, or injury rehab, and sometimes barely having enough players in a position group.

For years in a team fan site I argued that colleges were screwing the players over and should pay them before it was mandated by free agency. Those fancy facilities we brag about were paid for by the product of college kids. Loyalty? If you had a favorite car dealership who quoted you 15% more than competitors, would you buy from him over loyalty? Be honest. The days of handshake agreements went out with the hoola hoop. Those top team we all know about have bought players for years, it's on a bigger scale now.

"It's all legal?!" Yes, it is legal. Josh is correct! It does not mean it is the right thing to do simply because it is legal. It is legal to approach one's marriage with the attitude of "it's all about the money and I can look for a better option at all times." However, we all know that is a poor way to go about things. It is rarely going to be a positive to approach any relationship with the primary focus being maximizing money with little to no commitment in return.

I've been a college football fan since 1951. Several years ago I said the only logical thing for colleges is to turn their football and basketball teams into a separate business. That would be no more competitive with the NFL than it is now. You could sign players to a contract that limits when they could transfer. But players would still get paid. Colleges could pay, say, the first 23 players or 5 in basketball and still offer scholarships and less pay to the rest who actually want to attend college. For colleges this could make football and basketball bring in revenue for academics from the profits. Some % split of the profits for academics. Just go like the NFL for the major colleges and you solve much of today's problems. And make the teams separate businesses owned by the colleges and put everything under the same business rules as exist for the NFL. Major private schools invest their endowment money to support academics. Harvard once owned millions of acres of forest land in Brazil. Make a killing. So why not just go pro? Saturday's pros while the NFL is Sunday's pros. Why not?

College isn’t about making money it’s about self growth, education and development and never should a college decision be based on money because that hinders your development. Having 19 year olds run cfb is a joke, we don’t need kids running the sport we need coaches who are the actual adults running this and preparing the athletes for when they are done with college. Paying kids millions of dollars for doing absolutely nothing is a terrible precedent to send and will naturally force kids to not work as hard.

As long as this can go on, let the kids feast and let the adults fix the mess they created by ignoring shared revenue and acknowledge players as employees and just assuming the NCAA would be able to keep things in their favor but rejecting ALL ideas.
