I build a 30 minute shelter from snow and cook coyote meat on a rock like a caveman. Redeem a Harry’s Trial Set for just $3 when you go to HARRYS.COM/The...
A snow trench is a simple structure that can be built with almost no tools. A shovel and a saw comes in really handy. If you have a camp axe, you can also fashion a pretty neat rig to cook over the fire on a rock, just like a caveman.
Duke Traps: www.duketraps....
The Canadian Coyote Company: canadiancoyote...
I will also check my squirrel traps and review the trail camera footage to dissect what is working and what is not when it comes to trapping small game animals in survival. Does snaring squirrels really work, and is it effective?
My Gear (Shop and Support): www.thewoodedb...
Snow has a lot of insulative properties so makes a good material to make a winter survival shelter. Snow has a varied R-value depending on moisture and density. However, the average is R-value is similar to wood - 12 inches of snow is about the same as a 2x4 wall.
I will show you how to build a snow trench, which can be done quickly by shoveling a narrow space wide and long enough to lay in. After that, place bows, and branches across to cover. This is not an great shelter to protect from the rain, but works well to block wind and snow.

Personally, I wish you would pay no attention to the negativity people express. I enjoy your channel very much. I am happy that you have so many followers and have succeeded so well, congrats for that. With the shelter you just built, would it be practical to add an emergency blanket, with the reflective side down, between layers of branches. That would reflect back some of the heat that is rising and cut the wind and any precipitation. Just a thought. Sincerely, Dave & The Girls

Yeah, for sure! I think it's a practical add...a sleeping bag isn't much to add either, but a wool blanket and tarp would make all the world of difference. I did one like that before, and it works well.

@@TimZeTerrible But so often, any contradicting opinion is labeled as negative, and the person expressing it is assaulted with shrill cries of "HATER". Fun fact, Canada shares geography with Morocco all the way too Sierra Leone,. It it was millions of years ago and an ocean built between us, but the land and rocks are actually similar at their base, however the glaciers basically stripped a lot of the features down ., But if we somehow were the people we are now, but without the geographical changes, you could drive here in a few hours

So I heard something for the coyote legs. 1 - Blanch the legs to remove fur 2 - Stir fry it with LOTS of sliced ginger until you see the meat starting to burn a bit (Sliced or whole leg IDK, try both =D ) 3 - Add water until you cover or more to stew the meat, let the flames simmer but not boil for 30 mins (more ginger for getting rid of smell if you like) 4 - Check for toughness, see if it's too chewy/tough. If so you can add water and keep simmer till enough. 5 - Add all your seasoning, garlic/soy sauce/whatever but we all know its going to be Woodobo.

Best meat i ever had was Backstrap of beaver. It was friggin amazing. I also use cast iron all the time, even in house. Just got to learn that it holds heat longer then anything else. And don't cook on high.

Musk rat is delicious, but "heavy" red meat. It has the short fibrous texture typical for game. Recommend :p

If you keep your cooking rock warm until you go to bed, you can then put it under your bedding and have a happy rock to keep you warm overnight. If you do this, make sure the rock isn't too hot to touch with your bear hands for a couple of seconds so you don't burn yourself or melt your clothes! 😊👍

Who the fk doesn't bring a shovel with them in the backcountry during the dead of winter?? I'm not a super experienced hunter or trapper (though I'd love to be), but I have a hell of a lot of backcountry thru-hiking experience and at least one or two people in our group carried a fold-out shovel. Ignore the hate comments Chris (easier said than done, I know), you're teaching and inspiring many of us!
