Great review as always! I picked up my X5 xDrive40i today! As salesperson was showing me how it all worked, I taught him a few things from your videos. The 8 presets that can be used for more than audio stations SHOCKED him.

I just got myself an X3 in the UK because of your reviews. Thanks so much. Keep doing a great job. It might be nice to have a video explain which packages might be nice to look out for not just on new but used cars. Or just about the brand. I’ve come over from 15 years of owning land rovers so it was a bit of an overload trying to learn about BMWs, what I wanted and what would be the right fit all round for me.

You’re right that BMW does offer a immense amount of packages and options, those could definitely be brought out to light more. I will say my favorite option or package of all time is the Drivers Assistance Professional! It allows you to drive hands free in proper situations!

Best bet is to push IN the volume button. By doing that it should pause the Spotify and mute the radio!

Another use for the Auto H feature is when you need to park on a sloped area and don't want the car to roll. For instance, my mailbox is on the edge of a steep slope. When I've finished getting my mail, I use it to make sure my car doesn't drift that way when I start to pull back onto the street. I often wonder, though, if it uses more gas to accelerate when it's on and I forget to turn it off, which I believe you must do manually.

Great point, yes I strongly believe it was designed for those slopes so that the vehicle wouldn't roll backwards. But yes, many different instances where one could use it!

Thanks for this video. I have been looking for something like this ever since I bought X5 almost a year ago. When I use google map, it doesn't show on my heads-up display. For BMW maps it does. Also, sometime my BMW voice command just pop in and out of screen without actioning. Any tips please?

Hey Vishaal, to answer your points. 1. Google maps will not show on the head up display, they haven't fully integrated it like they did with the BMW Maps. Apple Maps and Google Maps will only show a very limited amount of direction on the head up display. The closest BMW has gone with this is that now both of those GPS's do show on the instrument cluster as a full map but still not on the HUD. 2. The only two reasons this may happen is that the "Hello BMW" Feature is on, you should be able to deactivate this in the settings under the menu "Personal Assistant". The only other reason I could think of why this may happen is that if your BMW has this feature called Gesture Control, you can customize one of the hand movements to activate voice command. This too you can deactivate in settings under Gesture Control.

Hey Angela! If it has the Birds Eye view camera / 3D view then it does. If you have this, then hit the P with the Cone button near the gear shifter and then you’ll see the camera system come up. Then look to the left of the screen and pull the tab and there you should see options for 3D view and car wash mode.

Let us know if we can preset auto start/ stop since my X5 weirdly has that button missing. It’s irritating to have engine off in jams.

Hey Michel, unfortunately there isn't a way you could disable that directly. It's because the newer BMW's like your X5 comes with a mild hybrid system, which all BMW's are going towards now. When you have that there isn't a button to disable it but there are a couple tricks to do to bypass it. Going into sport mode will disable the feature, a step above that would be to go into SPORT INDIVIDUAL and set the individual settings to comfort so it'll feel like a mild sport mode. The other trick as mentioned in the video, shifting into the S Transmission Mode will also by-pass the auto start stop, but i'd recommend doing the first one since it's more convenient. Thanks!

Is there a way to change the amount of blinks that are automatically set for touching the turn signal, and change it from 3 blinks to 7 or 5 or even 9?

Unfortunately, not. I've only seen 3 as a maximum. You could try clicking it down twice to see if that helps a bit. If you wanted to see where the menu option was for this, check it out under EXTERIOR LIGHTING.

Any known issues with checking the engine oil on the new BMW’s? I’m a little weary of depending on electrical sensors to check the oil and condition without a dipstick.

I would not be concerned about that. i can imagine it may be difficult trusting a computer system to let you know when the oil change is due. But, that's also why things are set with intervals. BMW's oil changes are usually 10k miles or every year. As long as that is followed there is nothing to be worried about. The vehicle does have the feature which you can rely on to let you know when the oil change is coming up!

I had a flying bug in my once and it disappeared after I opened the windows, so I assumed it flew out. Later I parked the car, set the alarm and walked away. 20 Minutes later the alarm went off, and that bug was still flying around in the car.

Haha, I will say that's a funny story =) Main thing would be to try to get that thing out, the vehicle has a motion detector built into it so it'll sound the alarm when the bug flys around thinking thats it's an intruder =) You can deactivate the motion detector by pressing the lock button twice on the key fob.

Unfortunately, you cannot. Not sure why BMW has it like this as it's one of the most popular questions. It always starts in comfort mode.

For some reason, my steering wheel adjustment will not stay saved to my driver profile, and changes from its preset condition, so how do I fix this?

You have to press SET and then 1 or 2, after any adjustments are made with the seating, side mirrors, and even steering.

I have already done this, numerous times, and the setting will not stay saved. Furthermore, when I try to make an adjustment it only moves the quarter of an inch at a time, instead of in a steady fluid motion.

No reference to the residual heat function? Press the fan button and it will heat the car for 20min while your out.

Great point! That’s also true however a good amount of BMWs in other countries don’t allow the function due to laws. You can also do it by pressing lock 3x on the key fob!

Completely wrong with what the S mode is for. If you wanted to pass other vehicles and you happen to be in a cheaper BMW that doesn't have much torque, then just kick down! The S mode is for a more sporty transmission shifting logic without you fiddle with the gears! Sort of a lazy manual mode. Do not over complicate with Voice Commands, BMW engineers are way better than that! Some examples: lighting to lilac; Temperature 72; Fan level 3; Passenger massage (by default it'll start at level 3, and if you wanted level 1 or 2, just say Passenger massage level 1. And just "massage" if you wanted it for the driver's seat; much faster to just click the heated steering wheel button, but if you wanted to use the voice command for it, no need to say turn on, or I want or whatever every single stupid so called car reviewer does. simply say "steering wheel heating" or "heated steering wheel"... just to name a few... Your Garage Door Buttons set up is only good for old, non rolling code system! For newer and rolling code system, you'll need to press learn on the garage door opener then sync it.
