I recognise the parade ground as its where I had my passing out parade in 1970. Takes me back, good times .Congrats guys you've joined the best family in the world,stay safe 👍

What a blast from the past I remember passing out in 1996 as an Irish guardsman and then going to my battalion and on from there good luck to all future guardsman and God bless you all 🙏

Tend to agree a wee bit messy, but to get that bang on you need six weeks like the troop rehearsal, poor bugger who lost his forage cap.

The drill didn't seem that good. Less time to work on the drill due to government cut banks. Seen better drill by cadets who are just kids.

British military bands' repertoires have been traditionally the same over the years. The Royal Marines do a great job of it, especially their drummers fancy sticking.You can bet the unit's sergeant major will have some "kind" words with the lads after this parade. I enjoyed standing a formation while assigned in what was to West Germany with the officers and men of the British Army On the Rhine (BAOR). I also enjoyed attending a dining in with the units' officers and senior NCOs.

It's much easier to maintain poor standards than keep high standards. It seems the Guards have gone for the easy option.

When one was in the Para in the mid 60s there was a saying when the Guards were at Pirbright,Theres a fairy at the bottom of my Guardsman.

@@petshopboy827 totally agree and yes you are bang on as regards the Marines and Paras (still the best of the best). I guess standards have dropped so much because recruitment is a massive problem these days. Sorry not heard of WG Pollard.

The competition for the right to wear the critics crown has been very keen. The winner is FB. "That woman stuck out like a sore thumb" was the grain of rice that tipped the scale in FB's direction. Well done.

Did my training there in 1963, then posted to 1st Battalion Welsh Guards at Chelsea Barracks London. Remember at least 5 platoons on my march out parade.

@@peterwilliams8051 I joined the Coldstream in 1963 and did my basic training at Pirbright, our drill was spot on, I’m embarrassed to see the sloppy drill nowadays and to see females in Infantry Regiments is just ridiculous. Gender equality and political correctness doesn’t win battles, never has and never will.

There is a series of videos on KZfaq entitled "Guards". It showed the various guards regiments in the early 1960s. Very smart looking and disciplined. There is footage about training in Pirbright. There must have been at least 8 guards infantry battalions then, apart from the The Life Guards and The Blues (before amalgation with the Royal Dragoons).

@@rashidahmad7830Hi Rashid, you are correct there were 8 Guards Infantry battalions back then, I’ve watched those early Pirbright videos, they bring back a lot of memories. It saddens me to see that standards have slipped so much because of gender equality etc., and recruitment problems, the Guards Regiments are not what they used to be, in fact the British Army is not what it used to be unfortunately.

It's a shrinking army now and because of that regiments training depots have been amalgamated to itc at Catterick. I passed out 1986 at the guards depot and the drill was shit hot. We got hammered from day one and disciple and drill was to become second nature. The times are changing and not for the best in my opinion, they even got rid of the recruiting offices staffed with experienced soldiers who had been there and done it and replaced them with civilian recruitment agencies which from what I've heard are useless.

that is some awful drill... just go watch some passing out parades from the 80s to see the difference. they're not even pointing their feet forward during the slow march. appalling

When the guards were trained at the guards depot Pirbright there would be about four or five platoons passing out on the same day. I know the army is shrinking but this is taking the piss. If a war broke out we would really struggle to muster a fighting force today.

Having watched the Trooping of the Colour for Decades, this was awful. I understand that this was a passout parade and perhaps they'll get better at it, but their heads were everywhere, missing steps, watching others. Make them repeat the entire course.

Having just watch the Chilean Female Troops parade marching in heels & skirts 19 abreast in line you begin to realise how utterly useless at anything the British Armed Forces have become. It's tragic. Trimmed to the bone by repetitive defence cuts and the pink & fluffy rubbish now endemic in our society. How did we get to this?
