Thanks for watching! Here’s the link for the free Audible trial: audible.com/smarthomesolver Also here are the notes for how to set up these automations: smarthomesolver.com/reviews/25-smart-home-automation-ideas-volume-2/ Of course these are all just ideas, and you could implement just a few so your house isn’t TOO automated (wait, is that possible…?)

Also, is the auto-on guard a Ring alarm-specific automation? I've only used Guard about 3 times when I went on vacation because I have to enable it manually. I also have no Smartthings setup. I'm an Alexa/Ghome/Wyze/IFTTT/Life 360 home
@SmartHomeSolver

@Mark Smith glad to hear you like the standing desk automation! I can't find where I read it but I think Alexa guard might be compatible with some other alarm systems. It's compatible with ADT in the same way. You can create an Alexa routine to automatically set Alexa guard to away when you leave the house or from some other trigger. But there isn't a way to automatically disable Alexa guard with connecting it to an alarm system.

The amount of programming routines into Smarthings, Alexa, Home hub, etc etc to pull all this off must be epic. Then the spreadsheets to keep track of them all for reference and maintenance boggles the cranium. My ex hated automation and despised my little echo dot when it gave me the news flash each morning. Your wife is a keeper. Well done.

You really don't need to program anything lol. This is just a big state machine with smaller subsystems. He just made it relatively easy to follow along if you were to follow it. I also don't know if he coded anything. He could have, but most likely the things he bought already do most of what he wanted it to do. He just needed to include the new states in the existing routines. Anyway, my point is, it's not as much as you might have originally thought.

All these ideas are so amazing, I like the exercise routine and I can't just help to be amazed about how creative one person can be, I have a suggestion and doubt, do you use a system to keep all the cameras together? cause I am thinking in using Ajax, if you are not familiar with it, its a system that allows to synchronize and keep all the cameras in one single place, now I wonder if it can synchronize with Alexa? cause in here she seems to do way much more, definitely, it would be good to know, thank you beforehand.

I'm willing to bet that it's more expensive to use the system from Amazon. In addition, it is completely unsafe and stupid, since using this system you become completely vulnerable to hackers only because there is an open channel in the security protocols for the police, who in turn can monitor you through your own cameras as much as they want. Attackers can also do this through the same channels. If you want security, then leave ajax and do not look for alternatives. In my opinion, this will be the most correct solution.

Nice man, love the automation. I have a lot of these around my house already but you gave me some good ideas. Have you thought of just adding a smart garage door and locks? That way when you set the alarm for sleep or scene to ‘bedtime’ you can just automate auto lock everything. Beats just have the light notify you the garage door is open and then you still need to get out of bed to go close it. Honestly probably my favorite automation I have in the house. I’m usually the last to bed and first to rise so it’s nice to have the automation also turn off all the lights.

These automations are epic! Liked and Subscribed because these are some of the best I have seen. It also looks like we have the same washer/dryer so I feel a kin ship lol. So many of them would save me problems. My standing desk buttons require multiple steps for safety but I hope I can figure out how it works. I think you and/or some others convinced me in the past that I need to get an Alexa as Google Home is just not keeping up. This seems to verify it, plus I like the Computer wake word.

Some of these ideas are awesome. At first, I liked the pressure sensor turning things on (eg if you have an alarm go off every day but one day is a public holiday, you might not want your morning routine to start when the alarm is stopped), though I wonder how it would work if you get up to get a glass of water or visit the bathroom. The NFC chips are a great idea, especially with people working from home, which obviously has become more frequent recently. One thing that blew me away was that 'if you haven't opened the backdoor after 8pm and go into the kitchen, it reminds you to take the rubbish out', that is crazy (and something I sorely need, haha). And the TV pausing if someone rings your doorbell is a very nice touch also. Thanks heaps for the video!

What I'm always wondering is - how do those automation work when you want to do something else at the moment. Let's say you have automation controlling blinds. But for whatever reason you manually changed the blinds level and you don't want it to be changed for example when you turn on TV and the automation would normally close them. My point is - there are always scenarios possible that you didn't think about in your automation, how to deal with that?

I also have IFTTT connected: Withings sleep mat, Hue bulbs and a chain drive for shutters from Tuya. When I get up in the morning after 6.00, the lights next to my bed turn on and the window blind pulls up :) It is also possible to combine heating control in the home etc. with the Withings Sleep Mat via IFTTT.

Seems you still need to find a better balance between working on your automations and your fitness ;o) But the fact that you need led strips to keep you motivated tells you're kinda the new years resolution workout type. So keep going both with your workout and smart home! Thumbs up from me!

Another great video, thanks. Over the pandemic I’ve converted our house into a smart home. My wife was hesitant and against it at first but now when we have family over she’s the first to show it off lol. Quick question can you do a video on how you get your lights to flash??? I have a smart button that I can push in my office that turns on and off the lights outside my office as well as announces “I’m in a meet please stay quiet”, but I want it to flash a few times instead lol

Thanks Jeremy! That's great to hear your wife is enjoying it. I know I joke about my wife being annoyed with things but for the most part she likes it a lot as well. She also helps me run the channel so that helps as well. There are a few ways to flash the lights and I go into a little more depth on it with this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o9WolsiI18C8oKc.html

Hi Reed! My husband and I are really enjoying your videos. I work from home a couple of days a week and sometimes it's necessary to let others in the home know that I can't be disturbed right then. I got so excited - I went over to IKEA and bought a Grono table lamp, a Tradfri smart bulb and a Strybar remote. After 2 trips to IKEA and some minor tinkering I came to find out that the bulb only changes from white, bright white and warm white. Any suggestions on other bulbs or light strips that will work with the Strybar remote? I really want this idea to work!

Very nice video thanks for sharing, It'd be nice to break it into an Automation Series with one video tutorial per automation with affiliate links to the things we need in order to achieve the same results. This will result in a lot of video tutorials for each area of the home to be automated. Could be useful and a Big hit in times of COVID

It's always good to collaborate and listen to other people's ideas, thank you! So with a wise closet contact sensor you can automate the closet lights with govee? I definitely want to get that robo vacuum, with kids we would need to vacuum but there's so many toys that it gets hung up on This would help solve that situation. I've added it to my dream list

@@SmartHomeSolver I have a Philips Hue strip (non-gradient). Can this be made to do that? How do you control the individual lights or make the small groups? Not really sure how to describe it.

Hey Reed, another great great video, you must spend hours doing this stuff! So a question on the NFC tags would these work at multiple locations as I walk through carrying out my work house service schedules and then scanning each location showing that particular task had been completed or checked? And then say adding a check mark to task list on an app on my iPhone? Thanks again.
