In this video, I mention a LOT of products and artists. This list won't be comprehensive, but here's some links to a few of the things and people I mentioned! If you find other people or things I should link here, let me know in the comments and I'll update this list!

I'm thinking about making whole desk setup concepts. Like Desktop backgrounds, matching folder icons, matching art prints and matching desk matts. And adding to that, printable Calendars and planners, stickers, etc. :)

That's amazing! You could possibly eventually have holiday themed ones and possibly sell to offices. So, like the whole car dealership would match for Halloween, etc.

Thats also a good Idea, yes@@annadreamsart9756 I think there is a good portion of people out there (me included) that loves when everything is in the same visual style, and also: practical. I myself love making layouts for planner and calendars as convenient and versatile as possible :) My knowledge as a 10 year experienced Designer might help there :D

#23 video tutorials are for sure a thing that many professional accomplished artists make as another revenue stream. In university, we had to watch soooooo many videos of real time footage of artists giving a walkthrough their painting practice (part of our homework to come to class an hour early and watch, and you had to log a certain amount of hours, the other part was master studies). And you really do learn a lot from watching real time footage.

Good to hear that sketchbook mock ups are fun for you. I'm new to mock ups, but I quickly felt tempted to create homey surfaces like sketchbooks, vintage publication layouts (to achieve those paintings on newspaper looks), rocky/shade/courtyard look. Some are out there, but I found them limited as I was doing my graphic design portfolio.

Have to admit you've intrigued me with the idea of financial resources for artists. Obviously I am an artist and would like to be able to make money as an artist, but in my day job I'm a CPA so to say that sort of thing is within my wheelhouse/skillset is a bit of an understatement. 😅

This may be a really stupid question, but once you create app icons, how do they...work?? Like, say someone buys a pack of my custom-made app icons and puts them on their phones (like say a clock or calendar icon), when they click on the clock...what happens? How does it actually know it's a clock!? 😂

Hey Kelsey! I really appreciate your videos. What I really want to get a better sense of is how you personally, pragmatically, step by step got from $0 of art and art related monetization, to being able to live off your art. For instance, clearly you had a background in art, but you had to build an audience for YOUR art in particular. How did you tackle this problem? Did you steer your art towards a demographic, or did you have an inherent demographic which you were able to hone in on? How did you do this? Once you buy an audience, what problems did you have to solve for to maintain the infrastructure that would promote monetary momentum and growth? How did you manage your schedule? Did you have to get an LLC? How did you manage your revenue streams? How did you balance your time, money, energy, and resources to optimize growth of your income and audience? Thanks so much for your sharing in your videos! It's been quite helpful to me.

I genuinely don't have any credentials but I'd heard advice from another audience that if you're just beginning to to build your brand you don't have an audience you probably won't know what they want for a while. According to them, you typically find out how to steer towards your audience once you see which of your products gain more traction. Again don't entirely take my word for it this is based on a fuzzy memory 😅

Hiiii! Thank you for this video. I was just wondering, would you suggest to use creative market as a place to sell for those that are located outside of the US? I was trying to find info on their website but I couldn’t figure out if they charge artists for using their platform or take a percentage of their sales? If you could clarify how it works it would be so appreciated 🙏🏽😅

Hi Kelsey! Thanks for sharing! I’ve heard that being “too commercial” makes artists less appealing to galleries or the elitist art world in general. Do you think this is true?
@KelseyRodriguez
@KelseyRodriguez 8 ай бұрын
i think it’s a bit true, yeah, but there’s also an ocean of middle ground there. I also think that the elitist art world (incredibly fancy galleries, v high priced art) is often incredibly exclusive and difficult to enter into and isn’t worth pursuing for most artists. IMO it’s easier to succeed when you can directly sell to your consumer instead of using a gallery as an expensive middle man

7:40 - unfortunately, as good of an idea as this seems on paper, the problem with it is shown in your footage. There are 7 products there that I'm confident are AI. (first two top row, first two and last one on the middle row, first and third third row) When people don't want something custom and unique, and they're happy to settle for 'close enough', AI is just going to outperform for products like this. Especially when copyright isn't an issue and quantity is important.
@splendidcyan
@splendidcyan 8 ай бұрын
I think the one thing that can help with that is style and skill -- like, AI stuff tends to be either full-on anime or very photoreal painterly (most of the ones I saw at that time stamp were the painterly type) -- not everyone wants either of those styles. So if you use a cartoony style, or something graphic, or something crisp and clean (and not blobby like AI lol), you might stand out! It of course won't fix everything, but seeing as I personally really don't like anime styles, I know I would never get an anime style sprite pack for my own game. SO, there will very likely be people who like your art better than whatever AI they see (here I'm thinking about the art in games like Monster Prom, or the really tactile, LAIKA studios-y sprites in the JackBox game Trivia Murder Party - which I know aren't tabletop like Kelsey is talking about, but the style stands out). Then the skill thing -- hands, feet, materials, poses, inhuman things that require design, AND things that AI tends to miss -- diversity in skin color, hair texture, body shape, and designing props that look better can all help give you a leg up even in this stupid AI world. It's something I'm planning on doing at least aha!
@TAHOEkaleidonaut

People still have to put in the effort somewhere… Be it the AI prompt savvy consumer to make their own original-ish/good-enough piece from their own resources, or a Creative with a unique pattern/product, or the Creative’s legal expert(s) if anyone stupid enough steals their work/style. In the latter case, we may be in a new era of tech, but that doesn’t mean Intellectual Property Laws solely applies to the past. Besides, it’s harder for AI to replicate human hands, & traditional media/artworks. Plus seeing the Artist/Creative work their magic or if at least see the finished Product (in person, esp) is part of what makes us Human AND as social-beings/creatures with unique cultures & experiences - THAT IS WHAT SEPARATES US FROM AI. As powerful tools AI can only learn & build on the past as any Art Student can, & is limited by the people who code/program &/or prompt it. Scraping the web illegally is on said latter people. I believe AI can save humanity as long as said latter people/their AI are kept in check. To distill & sum up, we as humans think, therefore we are. Creativity, & culture is our’s alone.
@ItsJemmaDraws
@ItsJemmaDraws 8 ай бұрын
There are lots of people selling non AI premade TTRPG assets that make a living off of it. It's still very much possible. Advertising that it is made by humans also helps, lots of people don't want to support AI. (Am saying this as someone who you would assume my entire career would have been canceled by AI based off my style and niche but hasn't been)

AI art is not protected by current Copyright laws. Someday the AI movement and the watercolor and oil painters and digital artists will clash and collide and end up in the Supreme Court, each group will ask the court to settle on their favor, that day is coming.
