I collect Model 99 rifles and can tell you this. The M99 will not stabilize the 120gr of any maker. 100gr is about the limit and not all of the 100gr bullets will stabilize. The M99 has a 1:14 twist and the long bullets will keyhole every time. The Nosler 100gr Spitzer is about perfect. The Nosler 85 BT with 38.7 grains of H414 drives tacks in my rifles. Coyotes don't stand a chance. I also have a 1903 Springfield in 250 Sav and it has a 1:10 twist and it shoots 120gr partition with 35.4gr of H414 very well. 3/4" group. I like H414 for this chambering. It burns well and is easy to develop. Keep pulling the handle my friend.

I am searching for brass for my 250 Savage which I just bought online. Been wanting this rifle since I was in the military. Ammunition for the 250 Savage is like hen’s teeth to find. Dies are available, I have power and even primers….need brass but it is like hen’s teeth. Thanks for putting this video up.

Man, there is a very very soft spot in my heart for this round. When I was a preteen, I pestered and pestered my dad (Lord love him😞) for a 270Win because I think I had read just about everything Jack O'Connor ever wrote about the 270Win. We lived outside Miramar, Ca. at the time on a Navy officer's income and he couldn't really afford to buy me that rifle so he bought a 30-06 at the swap meet for $25 for himself and he gave me his old shot-out 250-3000 Savage with a bent barrel. I shot the hell out of that gun up in the desert mountains and got pretty good with it, in time. I shot my first buck and first pronghorn with that rifle. I still have it and I have his 30-06. He will forever be the last person to shoot both of those rifles and they are my old safe queens until my 2nd oldest daughter takes them. Thanks man.

Hey ALRL, I've loaded for this cartridge for over a decade. Just to cut to the chase my REmington 700 Classic likes Sierra 75gn HPs and Sierra's 100 grn flat base Spitzers. Both loads print at right about 7/8 to 1" if I do my part. The powder it prefers is IMR 3031. Keeping in mind that it's a bolt gun with a free floated barrel. I took the loads for these out of the Sierra loading manual. Great old time caliber with almost identical ballistics to the 243 Win. Have one of them also. Thanks for showing some love for a forgotten cartridge.

I just paid $80 for a brick of primers. No brass, means no bullets and no shooting. Hope to find something somewhere soon.😊

I have a m77 250 savage ackley from the factory

I inherited this same gun from my Grandad. He took many deer with this gun using the same bullets you are reloading. 87grain going 3000fps. Like you mentioned, when this round came out it made some waves.

My understanding is Newton actually designed the cartridge for 100 gr at 2800 fps. The 87 gr at 3000 fps was a change made at the bequest of Savage marketing.

Popular for game wardens in Ontario way back when was the Savage take down rifle chambered for 250-3000.

Really looking forward to this!! I have the exact same rifle but it has a funky 4x power scope mounted on a swing ring. Always wanted to do a load development for it. The rifle was my great aunts and she took many deer with it. My mother now uses it when she seldomly goes out. I think we still have three boxes of old Remington core-lokts for it.
