paul Taylor On a used replacement deck I can only suggest craigslist and Facebook marketplace I know new you’re looking at probably $300 plus it would be cheaper to buy a nonrunning snapper for parts. Jim

Van Diesel's Garage The pilot light runs on acetylene only we have them burning all day long at least 10 hours and you don’t even notice the acetylene consumption. When I light the torch I always open the acetylene and oxygen that way I don’t get a bunch of black smoke. Jim

@@jimjackson9381 Jim I defer to your experience with this setup. However all the industry and government safety sources I could find said to light the torch with only acetylene flowing from the tip, and also to shut the acetylene on the torch first as well when turning off the flame. Of course that was with connections directly from the torch to the tanks. I was taught it was a safety issue, but I have to admit my professional teacher never demonstrated what could go wrong if you didn't.That could have been fun, or at least exciting!

I called my gas supplier and talk to them about “The proper way to light a oxygen acetylene torch”. His answer was to turn on the acetylene first light it and then add oxygen, so I asked him about those gas saver valves when you light them both the oxygen and acetylene are on, his reply was it’s not going to hurt a thing and there’s no potential of an Explosion. The only thing it will do is when it lights it’s going to make a popping sound, The same sound it makes when I light my torch with the acetylene and oxygen both on at the same time. Like I said we have been using these valves for over 70 years and when you lights the torch it will pop and when you hang the torch up it will pop when it goes out. Jim

@@jimjackson9381 Jim, thanks for checking. I figured the difference must be in the addition of the gas saver valves which must have their own safety valving. Being a person without the financial wherewithal and using the oxyacetylene setup as a mobile unit, rather than stationary, guess I'll keep lighting the acetylene first as long as I don't have those. You are right about the black soot though!
