Yup. That shit sneaks up on you. Went remote for work and, despite being an introvert, didn't realize how isolating it could be (it's not the dream 100% of the time). I'm in the process of acquiring a new to me car (planned) and decided to join the local car club dedicated to that manufacturer and do meets and drives and stuff. Fingers crossed it's enough cus the local bar isn't the healthiest outlet.

While I found the intro a long walk from the sidewalk to the front door, I'm thrilled to see the intro song and title bars are back to welcome me through that front door! The Factor ads and giveaway announcements, while practical, just don't settle me in. Those title song-snippets and closing-tunes really frame these videos in a way that heighten the RCR experience.

One of the most important and difficult things in life for some people, myself included, is self reflection. Recognizing when something's gone wrong in our perspective on the world and ourselves. The next most difficult thing is talking about it. Thank you for being willing to be open about it. Sometimes it just sneaks up on you and you don't realize what's happening until you start to come out of it. It's like when you take a Tylenol because your back hurts and you realize that you've actually had a low grade headache for God only knows how long because now that it's gone you can feel the difference. Also, I love seeing that some of my favorite KZfaqrs are friends and collaborate. It's like dipping your fries in your McDonald's sundae. Two things that are amazing in their own right are still as amazing when put together.

I totally felt your pain about getting into the funk where not much "stirs you" any longer. This gets worse the older we get, BUT sometimes experiences just like this are just what the doctor ordered to yank us out of that and "reboot" our brain so to speak. I've gotten the same benefit from skydiving, scuba diving, and other exciting things. We REALLY need things like that sometimes. Outstanding video, Roman. Thank you.

I grew up, and still live in, a suburb in Western Australia that when I was a kid, was pretty down at heel. Lots of vacant lots, quite a bit of bush/scrub. In my part of it anyway. The rich people, cliche'd as it may be, were on the other side of the railway line. Since the 80's though, the place has gotten more and more gentrified. So slowly but surtely I got used to seeing expensive cars around the place. I was still quite surprised when walking throught the local (recently rebuilt and upmarketfied) shopping centre, I saw a gutted and tarted up shop space with two McLaren whatevers in there. Very nice cars to look at. I think it was me who felt out of place though.

Every time I see a McLaren on the road I get excited. Even more so than Lambos and Ferrari's these days. I've been lucky enough to see a couple 720s', and some 570s, and I'm hoping one day to catch a GT or a Senna when I'm in one of the cities where that might actually happen. For being smack dab in the middle of the midwest, I'm pretty glad I've even spotted what I have.

A year and a half ago when I was "onboarding" for my job with a tech company, a co-worker and I went down the street to the McLaren dealership. A guy can dream, right? We walked around a bit, I stood in front of the P1 while he took pics of the other cars (he had no idea why i was in awe of the one car) and the salesmen barely even looked up. We clearly couldn't afford to even talk to them. Good on you for getting to take one for a spin.

About opening up Auto Museums in the boonies: it’s for tax purposes. You setup a non-profit entity that owns all the cars and the land the museum is on and you make the cars all museum exhibits and suddenly the property tax bill on all of it drops dramatically. Now you have a climate controlled building to showcase your cars and you aren’t paying nearly as much to own them. True you can’t drive them all that often because then it could be argued you just made them museum pieces for the tax status, but your daily driver is a Land Cruiser or Armada anyway so you don’t need to drive these all that much.

Nick, have you ever considered getting a Lotus Evora? The guys who engineered the McLaren mostly came from Lotus, so it has some of the same chassis magic... and the V6 from a Camry. Albeit one supercharged past 400bhp. So not too terrifying to own or maintain, but still a bit special.

I definitely resonate with the not feeling like yourself thing. That has been my existence for over a year. Working swing shift means I can't hang out with people on a normal work schedule. Also, I've been working as much as possible simply to get by. Also, I injured my foot at the gym last May, and it kept me from enjoying hiking like I used to. The pain got so bad I had to go to 2 different podiatrists before they found the tiny fracture, and I was in a boot and electric scooter for 2 months. Add that to my already devastating anxiety and depression and this past year has been a hell of melancholy. Maybe I should rent a cool car to blast around in for a few days so I can get back some of my joie de vivre.

"A different cup of tea". Interesting. It fits my situation with my new-to-me 2014 Mercedes C300. I've driven Hondas for nearly 20 years now. I couldn't stomach a CVT... and mid-teens Accords are still out of my post-financial-trauma comfort zone. My car was $15k. It's a clean southern example. It instills a sense of pride far beyond it's (used) price.

Might be totally misremembering this, but I think the McLaren F-1 was the first supercar to crack 100,000 miles. People don't buy McLarens to have them sit in the garage gaining value.
