The note from Jim's parents makes me cry. Every. Goddam. Time. Also Frank, what a character! He gets one of the most brutal introductions in film, and one of the saddest deaths. The true horror of this movie though, is when Frank clicks on the taxi meter and it's only £1:40 , we'll never see those days again!

This movie actually revolutionized the zombie theme for both movies and video games. Before this movie, zombies were always reanimated dead people. After this movie, it became popular to use "infected" people instead of the more traditional zombie. This movie was the first to use this new concept.

Zombie is a broader classification than you may realize. Orginally zombies were living people that were under Voodoo mind control. The early zombie movies use this centuries old belief. The second wave of zombies is split between supernatural and scientific. Some curse reanimate the dead or some strange radiation. A clue if which is which is if a limb is removed and if it continues to move on it's own than it's supernatural. The third wave, most recent, tends to be an infection like with a virus. It's debatable if the infected are alive or dead cause sometimes there is a cure that fixes everything. Also, for the longest time, the term "zombie" couldn't be used with paying out for the intellectual property rights. If I remember correctly Marvel Comics actually had the IP rights and used it for their comics at this time. That's why The Walking Dead show never use the term zombie. It would have cost them too much as an independent orginal comic before the show was made.

I had the different experience; this actually use to scare and disturb me when it came out, then over many rewatches and even more after the pandemic, instead of fear, it’s a great feeling of dread-- like seeing how it was avoidable(like the pandemic), and yet it still happens and great human losses are then the result. 28 Weeks Later is even more with that dread-feeling… but with that in Weeks, it’s more like watching a very sad drama-- you’ll see when you watch if(if you haven’t already).

@@NestorCaster Yeah COVID really showed us how people would absolutely make a zombie virus thrive. When the CDC studied that viral outbreak in World of Warcraft I don't think they anticipated the behavior of gamers deliberately trying to infect others as being something reflective of real life at the time. The song you recognized has been reused by John Murphy in at least one other movie: Kick-Ass. I saw this in cinema when it was new. The fast, aggressive zombies were quite novel back then. The death of Brendan Gleeson‘s character is still the most tragic part about this move. Naomie Harris is probably best known for her portrayal of Miss Moneypenny in the Daniel Craig Bond films.

What doesn't get mentioned enough is the " answer to infection " across all the apocalypse genre; another aspect so brilliantly explored in this pioneering release. Can you imagine a scenario, where there is like groups of survivors, civilian men and women, " single" , complete strangers, ultimately having to envision some sort of " dating " societal apparatus AMIDST a still very active extinction level event, driven by the sheer vastness of the dwindling of the human species!!!!! Although, Children of Men is worth a look, very underrated film!

32:58 the infected don’t eat, or if anything don’t eat much, but particularly human flesh isn’t the primary source. They’re starving or dying most due to exposure, dehydration, starvation, exhaustion and malnutrition-- the rage virus works by making the infected so fueled by animalistic rage, mixing with human rages, where they don’t eat, barely sleep and don’t do anything else that human beings would do to keep themselves alive in a basic way. The infected also gain just respites from the non-stop activity by being in a type of docile, hibernation(the same state the infected n the church was in when Jim said “hello”, in the beginning). Apart from that hibernated state, and their idle docility, the infected don’t rest-- and in doing so burn themselves out through pure exhaustion; no eating, drinking-- and assuming, no stoping to take care of themselves (wounds, illness, injuries etc.). The rage virus acts so quickly and violently that unless it has carriers/host to make more infected, runs it’s course-- which is why quarantine and isolation towards the infected becomes the key-- which is where the next movie comes in. ❤❤❤ That’s why honestly I never called this a zombie movie, it’s a global contagion/pandemic horror movie, like REC/ Quarantine, or Contagion(Matt Damon, Kate Winslet film).

When I watched Doctor Who when they brought it back, I loved the Ninth doctor. His sass and his sarcasm was right up my alley. And then, years later, I re-watched this movie... only to realize that the Ninth Doctor was the commander of the army post in this movie. Mind... Blown.... And what you said about people end up being terrible is because only people who will not care about hurting other people would survive. I wouldn't survive because I would try to go out of my way to help. But people who don't care, the people who are bad but not yet in jail, they would screw us over in a heartbeat while looking out for number 1

Me, personally, I wake up in a hospital bed, with no information. First think I do is try the nurse call button. When that gets me nowhere, I try to ascertain my condition. How well can I move? Then when I feel I can try to, I leave the room. By the time I get through an entire floor of the hospital without seeing _anyone_ one thing I *_don't_* do is go around shouting. I don't know what's happening, so I don't know if there are friendlies, hostiles, humans, mutants, aliens, whatever... Why announce myself to them, I'd rather get the chance to learn what's happening before being noticed by anyone/anything. 15:24-15:26 "What? That's impossible." [in re: "If I never see another chocolate bar in my life, it will be too soon." You say that now. But if the _only thing you've had to eat in the last few weeks has been chocolate... I'm sorry to tell you, your attitude may actually change. You probably wouldn't stock up on the chocolate in this situation either. It's high energy, but short lived energy, and you've basically eaten nothing else for every bite of food for more bites than you could count. 22:00-22:10 "They must have a limited amount of ammo" If they were part of a much larger unit (very likely) they probably scavenged as much ammo as their unit had. It clearly doesn't appear to have been just 5 men with no reloads at the blockade originally. But you have a point, when a group of infected show up, they do burn their ammo quickly. As if they think after weeks, "reinforcements will be here in a day or two" which is clearly not their mindset.

'Sunshine' is also well worth a watch IMO and i'd say the sequence featuring the most recognisable part of _its_ soundtrack (Murphy's "Adagio in D Minor") is, if anything, even _more_ epic. This kind of kicked off the modern zombie resurgence (so I guess we have Danny Boyle to thank/blame :) and popularised the "fast zombie" - it's not _crazy_ to suggest that without "28 Days Later" being successful _maybe_ "Shaun of the Dead" doesn't get financed, "The Walking Dead" comic doesn't get adapted, "World War Z" (also featuring fast zombies) doesn't get written (then filmed) etc.

@@VerowakReacts Good sci-fi and fantasy, imo, shows humanity at our best and at our worst. We can rise above ourselves or we can descend to be a greater evil than whatever peril we face. While the Rage Virus is terrifying, the soldiers our little party of survivors meet are far scarier. In most zombie fiction these days that tends to be a consistent trope: sometimes other survivors are a much bigger threat than the zombies themselves. At least I'm more scared of the soldiers than the zombies. XD

If you like soundtracks you should listen to the electronic soundtrack for Blade Runner (3CD) . It's the most beautiful sci-fi film ever made. The final cut version of the film is the best.

Frank, Hanna's father, would have likely been shot dead by the soldiers after he finds out what they wanted to do to his daughter so I'm not sure what happened to him was as terrible.

It may have seemed virtuous to raid the military stronghold to save the girls, but in doing so he unleashed death on everyone, even though it was shown that not all the military wanted women or supported the idea, as was shown to be the case with Sgt Farell. At the very least he doomed two innocent men to death by unleashing the zombie.

This, I believe, was the first zombie movie where the zombies ran after you with super-strength .. Up until then, zombies were just brain dead morons that slowly surrounded you en-mass (played perfectly in Shaun of the Dead) The origin of the Rage virus, is an actual laboratory near me - called "Cambridge Life Sciences", which has indeed continually been targeted by animal-rights activists for its treatment of primates and other animals

Hello Verowak, How was your day Tuesday? Happy Halloween 🎃🧡 This movie was incredible and at the same time it had controversy in some countries due to the explicit scenes. I don't understand why they want to seek controversy if the movie is R18 / +18 Don't you plan to make the reaction video to the movie World War Z? That movie is one of the best and the extended uncensored version is even better

@@VerowakReacts What is interesting with World War Z is that it, like 28 Days Later, features an actor who soon would play the Doctor in Doctor Who; and in World War Z, the actor's role was actually named WHO Doctor (World Health Organization). World War Z is fine, though I prefer 28 Days Later.

@@VerowakReacts danny boyle does great soundtracks, Sunshine is very much the same. but "rockets fall in rocket falls" by GY!BE is the song playing when him first wakes up and starts exploring london. It's kinda cut down though because IIRC the full song is about 18 minutes long (which isn't long for them, that's about a standard track length)
