I mean, technically the ion drive *can* be used for the whole transfer burn, and it would even usually be more efficient than other higher thrust engines due to the huge Isp difference, but yeah it is still a whole lot less efficient than the same ion drive without that, so definitely still the case that the gravity assists saves way more than it otherwise would

I was wandering if you were ever going to continue your tutorial series in ksp1 because I‘d really like to learn how you do your gravity assists which I just can’t seem to do properly. If not I’d like to know how you learned because I just can’t find a good tutorial anywhere. Keep up the great work.

Ion burns to raise apoapsis don't really work in reality; They take exponentially more time than chemical burns because you can use the engines for a lower and lower fraction of the orbital phase - how many centuries will your ECLSS and food hold out? Instead, they're used to raise periapsis, which they're well-suited for, or to lower periapsis. Burning the entire time raises a circular orbit in a steady spiral.

As broken as it is, the game looks gorgeous, something about the smooth lights on the height textures and the saturation is so beautiful, and that snap view of kerbin's shore looked stunning when compared to ksp 1 even modded. They just have to do the same to the other planets, maybe hire lynx like what jundroo did

Wow! With no means of refueling I would consider this to be impressive, considering a mortal like me can't get a Eve return under 120 tons. Dumb question: Why not have wings on the Eve ascend stage and let it spin to generate lift? I know you've said there's no propellers in KSP2 but you could just re-use the custom stock rotor in pre-dlc KSP1. Again this might be very dumb and I suppose you have lots of reasons not to use this design.

KSP2 is very buggy and not the game it should/could be.. but it sure looks great!

My impression without doing looking up the numbers is that KSP ion engines have unphysically low power requirements in addition to unphysical high thrust. The price of high specific impulse is high energy. Might be interesting as a different kind of challenge to enforce energy conservation on all used engines, though that quickly becomes more a kind of modding than a kind of playing the game I guess.
