The age of KZfaq is so cool. People started filming their careers, and now we get to learn about a bunch of job we never know existed.

Those $28 Walmart shoes looks and got me through some job interviews. The money I saved compared to the final auction price kept my family of 4 fed for close to 2 months. Walmart has a place for people like me who does not have much money. By the way, I am not poor. My family has a roof over our heads and not hungry.

Is this gonna become a series? Because this is incredible.

Imagine returning these back to Walmart and some lucky guy gets to buy these shoes for $28 bucks off the rack…. I know this was for entertainment purposes but this takes shoe crafting passion to the next level… Well done …

This video rolled into my feed and made my day! When I was a kid it was my big fantasy to become cobbler. I am not sure how I got this idea? There were no cobblers in rural ND to learn from, so I just carried a little suitcase around and polished everyone's shoes for 8 cents. 😁 This video lit my heart up. Thanks so much! I'm not a cobbler, more of a machinist and toolmaker. Seeing all the older machines and tools never gets old. I also repair and build from scratch vintage style clockwork items (watches, clocks, music boxes, mechanical cameras, etc). Most of my machining equipment is considered "vintage" with some modern upgrades. For my clockwork type work it's hard to beat some tools I picked up from an old timer that he got from an old timer when young over 100 years ago. I hand make (from forging to finishing) hand tools used in wood working, tailoring, metal working, etc. It takes extra effort, but just like with cobbling, it all pays off with a quality you can't beat by cutting corners.

I love that you guys actually did this then auctioned them for charity. Thats an awesome idea.

Watching channels such as yours makes me appreciate the work it goes to repair my shoes. By understanding more about the process it allows me to have more respect for the work cobblers such as yourself do. Plus, since my grandfather did some cobbling for my mother’s, aunt’s, and uncle’s shoes, it helps me to see in some way what he did for his family. Keep up the good work.

I'm a thrifter/reseller and your videos have not only taught me brands to look for but pushed me into the shoe side of reselling. I love shoes but never resold them because I just didn't know brands. I really appreciate all the info about what shoes are good to lookout for and I've fallen back in love shoes in general. I've learned so much from you two so a huge thank you for the time you put into these. Great work guys. So they actually make a grey suede version of this boot and for some unknown reason I have found it to be the most comfortable and stylish shoe I've ever owned. I switched out the hideous laces they came with and I get tons of compliments when I wear them.They are cheap and wear out quickly so I've easily bought 3 pairs of the same exact shoe in the past 3 years but damn I love them for some reason. Awesome. One of the best videos I have seen on KZfaq. This was the footwear equivalent of a professional artist working on a child’s colouring book.

I think y’all just accomplished the impossible lol. I expected the whole uppers to just disintegrate when you started cutting the cemented construction off it considering it’s a really cheap material and not leather.

Kudos for calling this video "entertainment." I can't imagine why anyone would send you $27 Walmart shoes to improve. And kudos for sending the proceeds of the sale of these shoes to St. Judes. I bought a pair of these for a wedding (I needed a brown shoe) and honestly I don't wanna admit this but these glued shoes are actually nice. Really hit above their price range, and I've payed more for shoes that didn't last as long

My father ran his own leather repair business (Grippers Shoe Repair) when I was a child, man this took me back! I gotta see if I can find some old knives and maybe send you one for future sole removal. Keep up the good work🤘

As a student I was only able to afford imitation shoes and they fell apart so quickly, it was unbelievable. Essentially a waste of resources. Some of them even smelled toxic. If I had had more experience back then, I would have gone for a pair of seconds from a reputable brand. Always thinking about cost per wear.

Just watched your video of the $28 Walmart shoes. My dad was a kind of driver, a garbage man and his love a shoe repairman. Watching you use the tools the trimmer, the tacks the hole punch. I don't know if you still use rubber cement. I can still smell the rubber cement. He also used to work at a real estate Center. I remember they had it upstairs where you could watch the kids and people skate and have fun. I was around 5 or 6. He promised me to teach me how to skate cuz he was very good at it. But it happened at the time my grandfather on my mom's had passed away we know they've been Texas and she had to come to Virginia. To help my grandmother take care of the funeral arrangements. That was in the year of 1963 I think. I will be 67 next month. Thank you I really enjoyed your video and I am a fan and I will be watching more. I just wish someone would come up with a shoe for people who had neuropathy. The only shoes I can wear that don't hurt my feet is Crocs. I know they're ugly but they're the only kind I can use. If you do use rubber cement please be careful it causes ulcers that's why my dad had to stop working in the shoe shop have a wonderful day stay safe💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

The upper has a veneer that cracks and flakes and cannot be repaired. Pretty tragic waste of a highly skilled cordwainer's labour hours, but this was also a thought experiment to see what he could make of it. To its credit, Wallmart and others have made shoes cheep and widely available so imagine a time when everyone DID NOT have cheep footwear and the appeal of a 30 dollar part of boots becomes more appreciated.

I will say this.. I worked construction for many many years and for a time Walmart was the books I wore. They were comfortable and I bought saddle soap and smeared them for waterproofing and it worked. I later bought some redwings, but I will say those cheap walmarts were still one of the most comfortable boots I had. I like the channel and I'm glad the money went for a good cause, but junk they are not, I wore ,them. They are made for people like me. The Redwings were of course better made but honestly I don't thing they were anymore comfortable. Thanks again guys

Which raises an even weirder concern that this stuff may read minds because I’ve always wanted go inside a shoe repair shop just to see how it is done. The description of a cobbler in old Shakespearean era books that I’ve read is what I expected you two to look like, to my disappointment. I guess you are the modern version. Quite the transformation on the shoes! Beautiful work! I can’t get behind the hello fresh thing though. I get it if a person is disabled and not able to get to their local grocery store. But all to often people are using these services and not supporting their local businesses.. not to mention the massive amounts of extra packaging and plastic it creates when often a person is driving right past their local business and grocery stores anyways! On top of that all the extra fuel used and pollution created created to have it delivered to your door step. Support your local business and local grocery stores while they are still there!
