I tried the dull side up version. It's currently my favorite fletching variation. Thanks, brother.

Tried out this type of fletching on a couple of store bought arrows that Id lost the fletching off of just out of curiosity to experiment...I must say, I am very impressed at the flight and specifically the increased accuracy and predictability of the flight path. Thanks for the videos! Don't worry, I'm working up to the cane arrows bit by bit! It fascinates me because I live in what was Cherokee country and I've always heard of this type of fletching as Cherokee two feather fletching.

Glad you had good results with the fletching!

Nice, Patrick! It seems those old boys knew how to make good use of those smaller bird feathers. I like your variation with the inside of the feather facing out...does seem like it would fly a little better if they stay tighter to the shaft. I've played around with using three smaller feathers left whole and tied down. I believe Jim Hamm called it an eastern 3 feather fletch in his book on bows and arrows of the Native Americans. I got really good arrow flight from them too..Thanks for showing...those arrows look pretty!....Ben

Thanks Ben, I've got a few more vids I want to add to this series. I haven't tried shooting the 3 fletch like you described.

Thanks! Yeah, there are three books in Jim Hamm's "Encyclopedia" series and there are lots of great hand-drawn illustrations of museum pieces in them.

Also, tried both the untrimmed and the trimmed version like you showed from the book example, both worked well but the untrimmed version made much more noise during flight, it kind of rustled, which I would imagine would spook game but doesn't matter much for target practice and fun shooting.

What a fantastic fletch design. I love the helix twist. So if you tied or glued the fletching to the shaft, that would quiet the arrow?

Yes, the fletching would become less noisy if tied or glued down. All fletching will make noise, however. :-)

Nice Set of Vids & Nice Work on those Arrows! Looking forward to seeing you shoot them!! I have a real 1870's Arrow, was found in a dry cave, had 3 arrows, a quiver & a bow, no telling how long they laid in that cave, but it was gifted to me from a friend, where those finds have been in his family ever since they were found & he was kind enough to gift me the 1, when I get it set-up in a shadow box case, I'll show it again.. cause the metal trade point is one of the 1st main types known to be traded to the natives!! But it's fletching is nothing like what any book has?? it's very small fletching!! There's No More then 1" & 1/2 of Fletching on My 1870 Trade Arrow! Best Wishes My Friend Hope You & Yours have a Blessed Xmas & a Stellar RockN New YRs!

Your arrows look great. How about a video of you shooting them next? With the feathers loose like that are the arrows buzzy when you shoot them ?

Thanks! I shoot an arrow in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/apuHrc9_t7aXe30.html I knew someone would ask. :-) And, yes, they are a bit buzzy. But the softer and smaller the feather, the less it will buzz.
