What this couple are doing is amazing and I for one am astonished at what they've achieved in 18 months. This was no project for the faint hearted and I think they will reap a huge reward when they are finally able to stand back and admire it finished and to enjoy what they have rebuilt from virtually nothing. Well done guys - the world needs more like you and less of the other sort 👍♥️

Just getting materials on board looks extremely challenging. A prime example of youthful enthusiasm tackling each obstacle as it presents itself. Cannot imagine anyone over "a certain age" who wouldn't look at this and immediately dismiss out of hand any idea of restoration. Hat's off to Simon and Gemma.

It’s incredible how much work they have done in 18 months. They have a business they run they have two children and many other commitments I’m sure. Each of those frames and stringers must take days to replace. They take stuff home they created a steam contraption to bend the wood to the shape of the boat. They have left that horrible ‘ceiling’ so that they can have access to insert frames. Putting this boat on the hard would be prohibitively expensive. They will put it on the hard when they have work they absolutely must do on the dry. And it already floats. On very high tides it’s a good job they have so many anchors to stop her drifting. Stop putting these people down -they are preserving a piece of their country’s history and that should be worth a lot of encouragement and praise.

I've been watching Simon and Gemma's progress on Sarinda since you first profiled them. Thanks for that. Their progress is undaunted and they have made significant progress on the project. One thing that nobody mentioned is that all the power used is off grid, mostly solar and wind generated with occasional generator use on heavy power days. They are environmentally conscious people who properly dispose of everything they remove. Also of note is the 'rewards' program Gemma runs where you can buy specially framed and notated copper nails that were removed during wood replacement. "You can own your own piece of history." Along with the repairs they are also studying how to properly operate the boat once finished and have attended many classes on navigation and operation of larger vessels. It's been a fascinating journey for them so far and I intend to watch them sail Sarinda across the channel to attend the 2029 D-Day celebrations.

A fantastic update on such an old relic of our past. I remember you taking us aboard this boat David back almost 2 years ago and pondered to my self that this is going to be hard work and lots of patience. Slowly but surely it's coming together with a painstaking love and an ambition to bring this boat/ship back to life in all it's glory of a time stood still. What they have achieved here is so much in so little time, I do hope, and believe they will make it for the 85th anniversary of Operation Dynamo. Thank you David. 🖖👍 And good luck Simon and Gemma.

It's an incredible journey so far. You see a couple of good folks, and their kids too, who just are so welcoming. Fact is, Gemma and Simon are quite gifted. If there is anything they do not know how to accomplish, they dive in and learn it. Inspiring family certainly. I expect like many others who watch, well an old guy like me just is motivated to get my pile of projects done because there is something so addictive about transforming forgotten bits of history from the brink of simply disappearing into history. Awesome indeed. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Well, I knew you'd get along. What I didn't know (forgotten?- early Alz's?) is, that you already have made your acquaintance. How did I miss that? CoVid?. Or did I just not connect? Well, they were discovered independantly to you David but the update in toto was great. It's hard to keep the perspective of the achievments until you get someone like you doing a comparison. If I lived in England, I'd be there helping as well, shaping up history and honouring the past sacrifices of those Bulldog Brits, every single one of them. 2029 seems miles away but, as we know, time flies. I love the attitude of these two dedicated couple. Their efforts and achievements have been astounding. 🥰

I remember that video. Restoration, done right, does take time. I have friends that restored a Lake wooden boat and they stripped it nearly all apart, redid all the wood with special finish and put it all back together. Done throughout the winter in their basement, then put it back together in the spring in a garage. It was absolutely gorgeous. If I remember correctly, I think the wood was Mahogany all over and finishing was time consuming, but well worth it. Hard work, but rewarding. Thanks David for updating us on their project.
