This might be EXACTLY what Toyota needs to look up too for the future Supra. This Infiniti G35 with a 2JZ GTE swap might be the closest thing to a little more modern supra than we've ever had, and it is nothing short of crazy. A 2J is only a dyno queen if the builder ignored the aero & mechanical grip of the vehicle. Power is usless w/o traction for any vehicle.

Well a regular 2jz can take alot of boost without needing upgrades so I assume he was referring to the engine only and not the turbo lol

It's not built, it literally has basic bolt ons. My EcoBoost with similar mods gets 400whp, so 600 on stock set up is very stout

This car has the 2jz GTE meaning it comes with a turbo from factory. unless you mean slap a bigger turbo in it, in which case you'll make all the power in the world.

I personally know the owner, he had a wastegate problem which limited him to just 600hp, he should be making around 900 afterwards.

Love my g35 but what a headache it's been. Both window motors went, the driver window is off the track somewhere, the sunroof is broken, and my air-conditioning/stereo ( an odd combo to tie together) just crapped out Friday. I've been dreaming about a swap but it appears cheaper or same price as buying a built longblock vq. With the economy it's only a dream but I'm hoping one day it will be a reality. Seeing builds like this is what keeps the flame burning. Nice car!

5:06 the VQ was actually designed around shortening the overall length of the motor, and move more engine mass towards the center of the chassis, as it's 2 rows of 3cyl. I'm actually surprised the straight 6 fits as well as it does.

VQ is too limited, the Supra is my favorite car of all time and the 2J is my favorite engine. Hope to have one soon. The G35 is a great car but it would be 1000x better with a 2J, why spend 8k on a greddy twin turbo kit and then build the motor when a 2J is so much easier and can bolt to the CD009.

Stock 2jz internals are capable in making those numbers as long as fuel, timing, and tune are up to snuff

Edgar Duran Add a bigger turbo... Without sleeved block, with upgrades pistons, springs, cams, etc.. I would say that is certainly a lot of power. Bet he upgraded that fuel system though AND on e85 (which adds in another extra 100hp to a good tune anyway)

I'm so happy you said that last part about it being the closest to a Supra driving wise. Also, the 350 trans is a great trans for 13b or other (mazda) rotary swaps (for the most part) - there is an adapter plate out there. As well for a few other trans.

David, Is their any chance you could get in touch with the owner of the G35 and see where he got the steering wheel work done? I've been sourcing many custom companies that do that type of stuff but they wont touch it. Looking for the same look and shape but no carbon and keep all the steering controls intact. Any help would be absolutely appreciated. Thanks for all the great video review....keep it going.

I specifically looked through all the comments knowing that someone had to have already asked about that steering wheel! I need that for my G! I have been checking everywhere to find one or have one custom made that still kept all of the steering wheel controls intact like this owner had done, but I haven’t had any luck. Did you end up getting anywhere with your search?

Sweet video, as usual! This car looks very similar to the one that TDC Performance (Mobtown) put together a few months back. I can't remember if the owner was from Florida though. Definitely a sweet set up for sure. The turbo sound on a 2JZ is hard to beat.

Oh man, that's nice. I wanted a 350 or a g35 but I need a sedan for now. I have an IS300 (still one of my dream cars though!) and I plan to have a similar style to this, with the more power, but still with the Luxury for daily driving with passengers. Love it! Glad you got your hands on this car David.

hey man, the intro was nice and it made me think... what if you own up the fact that you´re a bad ass and make a video with background music and transitions and shot to support that fact.. something like chris harris or grand tour hahaha it´s worth trying right? Good lord this is one of the most GLORIOUSLY sounding 2JZ builds I've ever heard. The turbine spool along with the BOV is literally straight out of Hollywood movie. Paul Walker (RIP) would approve.
