I've done a ton of research on headlight restoration, you are the best I've seen. Your process is the shizzz. What product could you recommend for faded exterior black trim that will last? Thanks for all you do !

Thank you very much research is King.. For exterior black trim I would recommend, Cerakote .... And for interior believe it or not I would go with the McGuire's ultimate that's what I use... But if you have a color issue there are some good guys out there as well that you pretty much rub on and let sit and then begin treating with lubricants like the McGuires...

Cerakote is great if you’re ok with a semi-gloss sheen. Can’t remove it once it’s dry. So try a little on the wheel well first. I like Gtecniq T1 for tires and trim, in and out of the car. No smell, lasts several months, leaves a factory sheen and can be glossy if you add more coats.

Yeah the stuff will fuck your lights up even if you do do it right that's what a lot of people haven't been getting hopefully they are starting to get you can't just put anything on a headlight just because it's clear.. You live you learn.. I've been there and done that..💯😊

I get that arcing a lot when I'm wearing my mask. For me, it's tiny water droplets coming out from the exhale flap in my mask. The water hits the surface and then gets thrown across the surface when the rotating sanding disc hits it.

I've watched most of your videos and you do a great job. I'm hoping to start restoring some headlights before too long. You keep mentioning that some lights are harder and some are softer. I'm curious if you have or could compile a chart that shows relative hardness of different brands. That info would be incredibly helpful for those of us just starting out. I appreciate what you do.

I was thinking more of a list that would be very helpful for estimating how much time a job might take, and thus knowing how much to charge. Maybe it could be a pdf download with the link sent by email and I’ll bet people would be willing to pay a little something for it. It would save a lot of trial and error.

Awesome video as always! Do you have any tips handling the drill? I did my first restoration and had hard time keeping the drill steady. It was wiggling all the time, whereas you are able to keep your drill dead steady 😮 Maybe an idea for next video: go through the tool handling of restoration process: pressure to use, how to handle the drill, polisher etc.

Good idea I touch bases on it on many videos.. handle it with both hands at all times... If it's wiggling around like that you're not gripping it hard enough and or pressing too hard on the surface it shouldn't bite too much unless I'm weird compromising angle... But like I said that's actually a good idea for a video maybe in the near future..

After you polish with the 3m can you see any scratches or are they all out? Also I would love to see a black trim restoration video and your techniques.

Those videos might be coming in the future..., And particularly it takes out a majority of the scratches only thing left is very superficial scratches that will not be seen through the clear coat that also help with adhesion..

@@theheadlightrestorationpro ok thank you for the info. It’s funny about a week ago I did a Mercedes C300 with y2k on it and what a nightmare that stuff is I tried wet sanding by hand with 320 grit and it took over an hour each headlight . It was my 1st Mercedes and so I was so worried

I had the same exact lights yesterday OMFG, same car and year with 2k Clear. Told the guy $160 because of time and materials. He told me $120. I just left, good luck to him.

I’ve watched a lot of your videos but I don’t think i have seen your opinion on the 2K clear from spraymax that says it is specifically designed for headlights? “2K 2in1 Headlight Clear”. I think it must be a newer product from them. Also curious if you have an opinion on PPF for headlight longevity? There is so much conflicting information online on everything when it comes to headlights.

There's no such thing as 2K clear for headlights this is a misleading product it's the same thing as the other one it destroys lights in my professional opinion and experience. If you research 2K clear for headlight this is the only one that comes up very suspect correct... It's not meant to be on head lights.. ppf is also poop as well it diminishes your headlight output and also prematurely gives you permanent headlight damage from overheating.. you also need a new headlight restoration once you remove it.. and the worst thing of all it's not set it and forget it within a year of having it on you're going to have to deal with it a couple times from bubbling peeling and or other issues and if you don't know how to deal with it that means you have to take it back to the place that you got it from and they will have to deal with it this is every single year.. this is why I had that restoration is a go-to by 99.99% of movement people in the market to get their headlights fixed..kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g-B8pK6BzKvIm4U.htmlsi=gekZ7ikW1yhv-Tei

i wish i found this video sooner man, i don't know why i always wait until i fail things to find the right answer to the problem i have. im doing some custom work on some headlights and some tail lights. The project was finally completebut the lenses were kind of rough looking due to old age. Did a quick youtube search, watched the most popular video and then replicated it without really thinking much about it. The 2k made Spider web cracks on both the tail light and tail light, im going to have to sand them down again and actually do it right this time. well you liver and you learn. Im stupid so ill take the L, Thanks for showing the correct way man!

2x and 2k are totally different. 2x is a just a basic single stage acrylic enamel that has twice the coverage. 2k is 2 part usually urethane.

Did my first restoration today and had a few hiccups. I didn't charge my drill batteries so I wound up having to sand by hand and my 3m finesse it pad still hasn't come in the mail so I used the bullshit one that came with the polisher but the job came out alright. It wasn't flawless like yours but I was proud of the results 💪🏿

I rewatched a few of your videos and I'm sure the clarity didn't pop how I wanted it to because I couldn't acheive a high level of heat hand sanding. Especially with the 3000 grit. Definitely a learning moment.@@theheadlightrestorationpro

Yeah man update , just did back to back Foam vs wool pad for headlights . Wool did a much better job for me faster than the Foam pad and it lasts longer

Same, going in 5 now. Still as clean as the day I applied it. Nothing lasts forever, but it damn sure lasts longer than 3M coating or anything else on the market. But more people click on affiliate links when they have to redo their headlights every couple of years.

Quick question... I have a new fairly new set of headlights that im using to do a retrofit. I want to add some uv protection. There are minimal scratche son them. Should i start like you do or do i skip a few steps sonce they arent yellowed or hazing ?

It all marries not sure unless I'm looking at it.. kind of a complex situation you have there.. I would never spray a perfect headlight with clear coat... If you have some scratch like that I would try to buff them out... Or apply aftercare...

I am a little confused? In almost all your restoration videos you always use the dry sanding method? Its only step three you add water when using the trizact p3000, So why did you decide to use water on these headlights? Was it because of the 2k clear, I've seen precious videos of yourself removing 2k without using water, Anyway a great job like brand-new 😃💯👍

Yes this video is dealing with advanced topics... With the addition of the wet sanding is because you need it more of an aggressive or in depth moving of the surface because the light is very soft and had this super hard substance on it.. so in a century moving it put an exasperated about of damage on the surface of the headlight... So had to do a lot more to gain the level of smoothness.. that's why I even went over wet sand with dry sand just to get closer to that smooth layer at the end... You got to think dry sanding is typically for removal... Any wet sanding is typically for smoothing... So I kind of tempered the light.. pretty much adding half measures with the wet sanding.. A lot of people don't understand 2K clear really shouldn't be on headlights expressing certain lights like this that are super soft.. how are you going to get it off without a bunch of bullshit that you have to correct... Also it just needed a lot of rehabbing for smoothness and rehydration... 2K clear really strips a light of a lot of hydration... From the actual product and the methods people use to apply the 2K clear... Normally all these steps wouldn't matter that's why I don't do them before.. This was an advanced situation.... If you did these steps to regular light it would work but a lot of them would be useless... On this step to get this insane level that you see on this video he would need steps like this.... But it's really rare..
