Been silently watching these reviews for years now. Bought the xtreme 1080p HD sports action cam years back based on a review. Salute to you man, you know your stuff, your reviews are so detailed and I like that dry humour. Nobody does what you do on your level.

Common questions answered: Please assume that these are default specs for every camera unless I mention otherwise... 1) Neither camera will accept an external microphone. 2) Both cameras have the option to switch off the time stamp

Hello Techmoan. Let me start by thanking you for this channel. It has been wonderfull in determing which action cam to get. I've purchased the SJ4000+ camera after this review, and I have noticed a shortcut on how to enable the stabilisation feature without going into the menu. When you press the "down button" for the menu, it engages the stabilizer. This is OS v3.2 fyi. Keep up the good work!

Hi Mat, based on this review I finally bought myself an M10+ with the new waterproof housing. I have yet to test it on my ski helmet and haven't used it under water yet, but I did give it a go in the car while travelling to Switzerland over some nice curvy roads and I am thoroughly impressed with this camera. Low-light performance is very nice, little to no grain. I only couldn't get the 170deg FOV which I believe should be enabled in 720P mode... Ow well. Thanks again for the review!

Having watched a few of your presentations, I am in awe of your expertise in this area and the great amount of detail you go into. I doubt anyone else could add anything and you are a 'master of your Trade'. Well done. I am looking for a dash cam for my car that is small, not interested in sound, can be run permanently if on power from the car and this SJCAM M10+ seems to be very good indeed. I don't particularly want it on the windscreen, so could it simply be on wire and positioned on the dashboard?. As long as it was 'stable' I think that would do. I could easily pop it in the glovebox when not needed.??

great upload, sounds like all the MJ10+ needs is the felt covering over the mic removing and or the hole made for it made bigger, if it has one.

Once again and excellent review! I bought the M10+ and took quite a while to tweak the setting so I got exactly the video I was looking for. I first started at 1080p 60fps with Gyro on, thinking that would be the best option for 1080p monitors and TVs. After owning the M10 I was actually a bit disappointed with the slight blockyness of the video at this resolution and frame rate. I then tried it at 720p 60fps and actually found that the blockyness was even more noticeable and the blocks where bigger. In the end I went with 2K 30fps and instantly notice how much better the video looked and the blockyness was all but gone. I use the Gyro when it is attacked to my electric bike and the image quality at 2K 30fps is excellent and smooth. Now that I had the image sharpness and stabilization sorted out I moved on to White Balance, ISO and Exposure. I wasn't happy how the image brightness fluctuated when I went in and out of the shadows and things in sunlight would look to bright and over saturated at times. I decided to play around with the White Balance, ISO and Exposure settings to try and rectify these two issues (something that might not be such an issue on a cloudy day). It is summer here in Australia so the first thing I did was changed the White Balance from Auto to Daylight, this setting changed the fluctuation in brightness (when going in and out of shadows) to a more normal level, I later changed it to cloudy but felt that Daylight yielded the better result, even if I went into a dark area or underground carpark. I still felt that the video was looking a little to bright and over saturated in sunlight and things like trees and other plants didn't have their natural green colour, so the next setting I changed was ISO which I changed from Auto and dropped all the way down to 100 (which is the darkest setting). The picture was better but still a little too bright, so the last thing I changed was the Exposure which I dropped to -1/3 and then -2/3 but then decided that -2/3 was to dark. In the end -1/3 yielded the most natural video I could get and all the settings I changed gave me as close as I could get to the most natural video possible (with this camera). All in all I was very happy with the look of the video I ended up with and I think it was a significant improvement over what I start with. My recommendation for the M10+ are, Resolution: 2K 30fps, Gyro: On, White Balance: Daylight, ISO: 100 and Exposure: -1/3

Love your videos and this has made up my mind to go for the M10+ :) One thing though, why don't you upload your videos in 60fps? The videos I've seen that have been look so much better and show off what the cameras can produce.

damn sharp that M10+ in 2k , i got one from ebay shop you linked come with 3 battreys and case , use on Dirt bike helmet . ticks all the boxes for the price, , I reviewed some other 2k on board helmet footage ,and looks great ,

Finally a marked step up in tech! Really impressed with that m10+ too!! Give it a couple more years and that gyro is going to be spot on and my 3 axis stabiliser and gopro will be redundant!

Whilst I would probably use either action cam inside the case, I'm falling in love with the Dazzne P2+'s sound even though the M10+ has a slight edge in terms of video quality.

Please do a follow up review with the xiaomi yi. With all the firmware updates it had since you reviewed it, I think its a totally different action cam than before. Especially since it can now do 2k videos just with the firmware updates.

Any chance you could review the SJCAM M20? I see in some reviews it has poor photo quality and has inferior low light performance compared to the M10+. I have also heard concerns about low battery life. Interesting since it is intended as a superior replacement of the M10+.

I agree, M10+ better color, better audio, better low light. Can you compare the Polaroid Cube with the M10+, I know the Cube is only 1080p HD. Not sure if it's still for sale and which one is a lower price.

Hello Matt, good vid as always. Could I ask which camera you would recommend for attaching to a RC/drone? Ideally it needs to be cheap (under £10) but good quality for the money. Any suggestions? What about the 808 spy cam or the Mobius for instance?

Excellent thanks ... on the M10 is it possible to use an external power supple to record and charge at the same time. Keep up the good work I was going the Polaroid Cube plus route but the M10 seems to have a lot more and equally good footage.

I love my Dazzne P2 that I got August 2015 ,, I believe 2K video would be great when rendered at 1080p.. Seems I should wait for the next model or firmwear update..

great reviews, especially because you use the same locations for every test, do side by side comparisons, and most importantly, include night shots. after trying to compare apples & oranges between various channels which sometimes give opposing results, here's some cams you might want to review... *RunCam 2* ($80 US!!!) it's daytime output looked better than 2 1/2 times the price Yi 4k (!!!) to me in one shootout and although it looks like it's lower resolution at night, it has great coverage and color saturation for such a cheap camera. i'm looking for a camera that does both day & night shots well, and so far, this looks like "the best" even if it loses detail at night. *Foxeer Legend 2* ($73) surprised me be destroying a FireFly 7S, which fared pretty well in another shootout, in daytime resolution and colors. in SOME shootouts, it beats the RunCam and in others loses to it, and if i recall, it shoots really dark at night, but it's only $73 too. i'd like to see how it fares against EVERYTHING you've tested in real world settings and NOT in pointless dizzying drone demos. *SJCam SJ5000x Elite* ($125) seemed to have the best daytime resolution and colors in a 4 way shootout, though it was a little darker in night shots, but NOT lofi or grainy making it look like a great "all around" contender as long as high contrast night shots are acceptable. *SJCam M20* ($100) from what i remember, it doesn't have the absolute best daytime resolution, but is still pretty good, but it excels at night time shots keeping detail and color separation *Akaso EK700* ($80) doesn't seem to be the best camera at night, but looks GORGEOUS in day shots with superior details and color it'd be interesting to see how these cams fare in your reviews. i think you might find the RunCam2 to be a "giant killer" for its price as it also fared best, to my eyes, against FireFly 6s, Mobius & GoPro Session in another shootout with both the best resolution and color saturation indoors and out. it's made more for drone shooting and has an odd low profile shape, but for the price, it looks pretty good from what i've seen. a "mega shootout" with these, and whatever you consider the current best that you reviewed as a benchmark would be EPIC.

Hey Techmoan, I always like your cam reviews and it has been a long time since the last. As I can see the M10+ it seems to be the cube version of the SJ5000X Elite but with better performance (didn't that happen with the M10 too? maybe the shape has magical properties) As you liked the Git1, shall you do a review of the Git2? I think is one of the best contenders in the "2k, 12mp, gyro budget cams" against the Xiaomi Yi, Firefly 6S and now, the M10+ I purchased the Dazzne P2 but had a problem with the delivery and got my money back (no camera though) Now I'm thinking in investing in a newer one with better video and "still" capabilities. That's it for the moment. As always, thans for reviewing ;)

Is there a way to set stabilization sensitivity or aggressiveness? As an example if I'm walking about casually I might not want to have the area captured to be reduced as much as if I were jogging or it was on my vibrating UAV. Or perhaps if it were dynamic and based on vibration that would be great.

But recently I've seen there just around $110 a 4K action camera with image stabilisation and Sony CMOS sensor, called Firefly 6S. Would you be eventually planning reviewing it? It would be very nice to see more details. So far best specs and reviews I found at rcgroups dot com, where people seem to be happy with it for aerial footages. Anyways, thanks for making great reviews :)

Hi, may I know when the M10+ gyro is turned on, what is the angle of view vision? It seems like the video is much smaller when the gyro is turned on.

Couple of questions (sorry if they've already been asked) - does the gyro function affect battery life, and did you go back to the manufacturer to ask why the mic socket doesn't work?

I like the feature sets of these cameras over the Polaroid Cube+, but you can definitely see the difference of image/movie quality. The Cube+ wins hands down, which is most noticeable in the driving shots. The WiFi lag is also significant on these cameras vs. the Cube+ near in sync WiFi quality. I wonder if Polaroid will take note to Techmoans points. They seem to be watching. Will they listen?

I bought the M10+ from Amazon UK and didn't check carefully enough to see which case it was shipping with. So I've ended up with the old style case :( From what I can see the new one isn't being supplied on any of the UK listings. I wish I'd waited to make sure I got the new case.

Great review as usual. I hope if you plan some 4K review to not include cameras with fake 4K advertising. For sure you know much about resolutions, interpolations and framerates to not be cheated by them.

Are you going to review the Firefly 6S ?. Have been using it for filming my adventures for a while and it is pretty good. However I hate how market is getting flooded with so called 4K that is not. The manufacturers are misleading people on the boxes and adverts about the true specs. Have found most only film at a max of 2880 x 2160p lower than true 4K at 3840 x 2160p. It is just that some media players will see it as full 4K but any decent editing software doesn't and knows its not true 4K.

Technoman, you are the best action camera reviewer on KZfaq. After watching quite a few of yours and other reviewers videos, would you suggest that SJCAM S6 Legend would be the best : value for money and at the same time best quality 4k action cam. I intentionally exclude GoPro, since like with the smartphones you don't have to pay extortionate price for well established names, my One +1 easily matches any of the top LG, SAMSUNG/IPHONE models from 2014, when it came out. I think a lot of big brands are price gauging and almost acting as a cartel to protect their huge margins, but Chinese are coming and we are all better for it.

hey matt, do you know if the SJ CAM m10 battery is the same as the one for the Sj4000. They look the same.

does the sjcam date gets reset when you change battery? that's the most irritating of the other sj4000

Q1 If the video is recorded in 2k mode, but the youtube playback setting button highest is 1080phd does it make the 2k video lower as if it was recorded in 1080p? Q2 If video A is recorded in 2k mode, video B is recorded in 1080p mode, both videos are uploaded to youtube and 1080p is the highest setting available. In youtube 1080p playback is A clearer than B, or is A equally clear to B? Q3 I notice this video youtube setting is 1080p hd, why don't you upload it in 2k? Thanks

Out of interest if you were to press the download symbol rather than just clicking on the text does downloading then work? Also did you try multiple microphones? Some microphones require power to be sent to them while others may not (condenser (electret in most cheap mic's) vs dynamic microphones). Perhaps using a microphone that doesn't require power over the 3.5mm socket or one that has a built in battery may work.
