The dab reception is poor due to that single black antenna wire fine. For fm but dab really needs an earth wire connecting to the antenna, basically the black wire should go to one ariel and an earth wire connected to the antenna negative on the dab module should go to the other ariel. I have done that mod on a dab unit of mine and it works, I also recommend an antenna socket added to some dab units to increase reception.

A pretty good idea actually, though making a tape copy is probably more work than pressing a record

Judging by the Tefi Kurz Band that you played, a "Teenager" in Germany was about 60 years old. 😀

I started collecting Pulsar's ever since one day when I fortuitously noticed what I thought was a Fossil P2 copy on the wrist of a beggar that asked me for $2. It looked pristine, but on closer inspection it was a mint P2 because it had only one button instead of the 2 buttons on the Fossil reissue. I asked him what he wanted for the watch and he said "depends on what you are asking" and I thought that he must be aware of the watch's $500 value and when I timidly offered $50 he could not get it of his wrist fast enough. Ever since then I have collected pretty much every Pulsar mens model (including a NOS boxed greenie) plus several other interesting LED's and first generation LCD's including a Omega Speedmaster LCD that I scored for $80 at a pawn shop. Collecting these is relatively cheap and very rewarding on account that they were very groundbreaking for the 3-4 years in the early-mid seventies.

I had one of the color ones, and really liked it, until we got some of those dvd players that attached to the back of the headrests, which were much better.

V2000 - At its best, broadcast quality so better than either VHS or BETAMAX. Cassettes longer and more versatile, just a pity they were late to the game.

13:20, additionally, are you adjusting the power to 50hz? US power is provided at 60 hz, whereas Europe mains power is 50 hz, though not sure what it would have been when it was released? I don’t recall a difference in voltages, which could also affect the speed of the machine.

Loving this. I'd consider myself a hi-fi enthusiast (I don't use the word 'audiophile' nowadays, as that has connotations of people that use music to listen to their equipment rather than the other way around, and spend silly money on 'directional' Ethernet and USB cables etc). I don't have an EQ in my main system, but I've connected an old Tandy (as Radio Shack used to be called here in the UK) own-brand graphic EQ up to the system in the office. It's not in the signal path; I've hooked it to the analogue output of an el-cheapo PCM2704-based USB sound card, with the actual audio coming via the SPDIF. This means I can have 'das blinkenlights' (ie the spectrum analyser) without messing up the signal path - and that proves very useful when mastering my own music.

I don't get why they are converting major motion pictures over to PAL frame rates for no reason on something like Blu-ray. You can play NTSC stuff there these days, and we can play PAL stuff over here now. Our TVs are no longer tied to the electrical grid frequency. And doing so also means they need to use interlaced video, as the only progressive frame rates that Blu-ray supports are 23.976 and 24 FPS. By the way, Mac reports sizes in binary (1,024, not 1,000) but uses 1,000's units ignorantly (as does Windows). It's really 11.4 GB which would calculate out to 14.4 Mbps. Lower bit rate does not make an image soft. It creates macroblocking artifacts, which clearly aren't present. It's likely they softened the image with DNR to make encoding at a low bit rate more efficient.
