Good video your explanation of things for the layman was pretty good, I’m a retired painter and I appreciate people that explain things well. Next time you do one of those if you’re getting tiger stripes, as soon as you’re done with the panel, move the gun further away and do a cross coat, just light like your dusting it over the top it’ll melt into what’s already there and get rid of your tiger stripes

I say this often - usually people tell me to go do one.. - but you don't need to do the "modify the gun" thing. Leave the gun stock (HVLP/LVLP) . You can spray bedliner just fine with a 1.3 tip. If anything, you get a far nicer finish. Mix it stock bedliner to hardener, add 30% reducer, mix the hell out of it & put it in the gun through a 100 micron mesh boggo paint-strainer cone. Important part then is to bang the air-pressure up far higher than you'd spray paint at.. Voila - the gun sprays bedliner beautifully. I usually run at around 50/60 psi where I would be spraying base/clear down in the twenties. The extra air pressure atomises bedliner nice, leaves a real nice finish without the fugly big lumpiness, just a nice textured finish. I used use a modified (drilled out to 2mm) gun - then one day I couldn't find it so I used my usual LVLP gun - which is when the penny dropped. Up the pressure. That gives you a 100% nicer finish that won't trap dirt & look crap - it will look pretty damn cool.

@@dzlfreek the mixing is a pita when you do it properly - bedliner is some seriously lumpy material. It takes a lot of ,mixing. I often wonder would using a small whisk in a cordless drill be easier - chances are it might be. Takes ages with a paintstick.

Good color choice. Kind of glad you ended up with the 2 different brands. Gave us a true comparison between the 2. Car manufacturers have used a similar product for years called chip guard. You can get it at any automotive paint supply for when you're doing repairs. You'll see it on any vehicle down low on the rocker panels, behind wheel openings, and just about anywhere you might have road debris hit. It's also thin-able to vary the texture. This is probably where products like these were born from. For vehicles like your jeep and what you use it for, you couldn't do anything better to give you a lasting finish. Based on what texture you got from the modified HVLP what would you take the opening up to if you wanted to get somewhere between the 2 guns that you used?

I did Raptor bed liner on the roof of my Ford Explorer due to heavy rusting living next to the gulf of mexico in Corpus Christi Tx. I rolled the liner on with the kit that came with the raptor liner and I realized the texture came from the roller. I thought the texture was in the liner. I was wondering if I could spray it with HVLP but an electric Graco TrueCoat 360 Variable Speed Electric Handheld Airless Paint Sprayer...I will probably be respraying the roof and after seeing how easy it was to spray the complete vehicle you have inspired me to give it a try. the size of the kit doesn't take into account the color, or any thinning agent. The thinning agent doesn't add material, and will evaporate, but it will add volume. Ive been told that custom coat and raptor are made by the same company. I know U-pol makes Raptor but I don't know about custom coat. I can tell you that, haven bought both, they do look different and you get more material with Raptor, but spray about the same. When I do this again I will use Raptor.

Probably just a hair over 2.0mm by the time you got the hole drilled. you kept saying 5/32", which is close to 4mm, I don't think you drilled that, last I looked at the HF caps I'm not sure that there is enough meat to go over about 2.2mm or so, it's getting really thin around 2mm. Well sir, I find us kindred spirits once again regarding projects lol. I built a very similar Skoolie as you, and became a subscriber way back then. I digress, my question to you sir is if you were repeating this process and wanted a somewhat smoother yet durable finish, would you recommend shooting it solely with a HVLP with a 2mm fluid tip? Also did you thin it to the recommendation of 10% when shooting it through HVLP?
@dzlfreek
@dzlfreek 2 жыл бұрын
I like the textured finish but it uses a ton of material and the coverage isn't as good as I would've hoped. The second coat with the HVLP gun was just to achieve the coverage I wanted. Ive seen some guys do restorations using just reduce material and the HVLP gun with a 2.0 tip and the results are amazing! I did reduce 10% with acetone instead of paint thinner so the solvents would flash faster. nobody wants to wait 2 days for paint to dry.

I've seen Custom Coat get shipped with Raptor hardener and Raptor product shipped in place of Custom Coat liner. U-Pol markets the Raptor product and, TCP Global the Custom Coat. I don't think either TCP Global or, U-Pol makes many (if any) of their own products. They both seem to be primarily marketing companies. I suspect that both products are manufactured by the same nameless 3rd party chemical company and, supplies the product to both. The Custom Coat is very similar to or, may in some cases possibly be just repackaged Raptor. I worked in retail and have seen this before. Usually the parties have a legal agreement and an obligation not to disclose this information. I don't know this for a fact but, it seems a good rational guess. The Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) would tell the story, if you know how to read it.

Hello... I want to spray Upol Anti Corrosive Expoy Primer on my truck that I sanded down to the metal and then I want to spray Raptor liner on top of that with a "Fuji Industrial Spray Equipment PLATINUM-T70 Fuji 3005-T70 Q5 Platinum Quiet HVLP Spray System" I want to use the Fuji spray system for the primer and the Raptor liner. Getting proper thinning of the Raptor to optimize atomization through the Fuji system will be key. Have you heard of a Zahn cup or #4 Ford cup? In order for a paint to spray properly through an HVLP sprayer I understand that it should be thinned to where it flows properly out of a Zahn or Ford cup. From what I understand the Upol Anti Corrosive Expoy Primer should shoot well out of the Fuji Spray 1.8mm tip without any reducer. It's the Raptor liner that is thicker and will need to be reduced. I am planning on using using "Restoration Shop / Custom Shop - UR70 Medium Urethane Reducer (Gallon) for Automotive Paint and Industrial Paint" and wait until the ambient temperature is appropriate before I spray. Would it be best to get a Fuji spray 2.0mm tip to spray the reduced Raptor liner or do you think I can I just spray the unreduced raptor liner with a 2.0mm tip? I would greatly appreciate any tips or insights for what I am trying to do.

Never care for AutoZone, Would stand behind some brake parts when they failed (lifetime warranty parts) so I switched to Advance. Now I use Rock Auto. But for future reference, try this. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002SQYF0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

@@dzlfreek well I mean you did use different techniques in the application of the products and there a lot of videos explaining how different end results are produced. Some people have also reported getting bottles with both labels, one over the top.

@@dustintinsley3899 well I got both products and the bottles were totally different, one plastic other metal, one taller than the other and had different threads on the neck so the shutz guns aren't compatible with each other and the product in one looked like condensed milk while the other looked like corn syrup. Also, I am aware of the different techniques to get different results, thats why I used them. Thanks for watching!

@@dzlfreek Ah, I gotcha, you're right, my bad. My mindset is Chicago. Call the wholesale supplier and it's here ASAP/under 2 hours. But I'll still stick to my guns, 3M #7447 deserves to be in stock and on the shelve.
