I'm 22 years in my friend, everything from bicycles to fighter jets & vintage WW2 aircraft here in the UK. I've always used a full face mask with breathing air connected to there own separate designated compressors but I remember the older guys (when I started) telling me about half masks & vaseline(petroleum jelly?) with a bandana round the head to keep overspray out their hair! Some health & safety isn't just a pain in the arse! 😊

I used an ozito gun from Bunnings from the twin package and after much trial and error, I’ve gotten nice results with metallic paint of all things (wish my car wasn’t metallic paint now), I left the plastic filter in and has saved a few bits of crud from shooting into my paint

Yes! If like many of us your using a 110V compressor, you have trouble maintaining the 6CFM that the purple HF gun wants. How many gallons your tank holds only affects how long you have to wait for the compressor to catch up!

@@hobbyautobodyfun9315 that's not 100% true. The prep is important and makes a good spray job last, it doesn't make a bad spray job good. The gun makes a difference as well as technique. It's just not that cut and dry.

Two things, I put the little filter with the little nob stick pointing up, this makes it easy to remove when cleaning the gun. Second thing I run a 50/50 mix of ascitone and lacquer thinner over the little filter every time after use this keeps it nice and clean. I've been having good results.

as someone that used to paint his own vehicles when we had acrylic enamel and not this clear coat stuff, i will be looking for that type of paint when the time comes. when i did my own vehicles people were amazed at the quality of the paint job and would ask me to do theirs which i did not. my ex son in law was a body man and he commented all the time on how my paint jobs were better than most of the shops he worked in but like i told him i take my time because its my vehicle and i dont want it looking like crap in 6 months like in some of his work that he did on his vehicles. like you, i used to put more than one or tow coats of paint on so it looked good and it lasted.

I havent had too much experience personally with painting at all YET (off and on for the past 2 years, mostly rattlecan and rattle can clearcoat with some really good results), and I finally bought some guns off eastwood and they had the filter in them.. well I have been using the filter and obviously since I don't have much experience I don't expect a perfect finish, but it doesn't come close to Brians (probably gun settings honestly since I am getting used to HVLP) After I finish painting, I let the filter soak in laquer thinner with all my other parts for about 10 minutes or less, and clean everything thoroughly. I also use the paper strainers, however I am going to give it a try and take out the filter from the gun and only use the paper strainers. I have a clearcoat job in the morning and I am excited to see if this changes anything and pumped to see how nice it hopefully will be.

I use that same gun and it works surprisingly well for the cost. I simply run lacquer thinner through the gun when I'm done painting and that cleans it out very well. Every 5 or 6 paint jobs I take the gun completely apart, soak the innards in lacquer thinner and then reassemble. I've been doing this for several years now with no problems......

I actually like using the filters in the gun. But I put them into the hopper and not the gun. It catches all the stuff in the filter from the hopper and all you do is take it out and use a air hose to get all the stuff out the filter. Run some acetone into the gun and filter and it’s good to go for the next day

Hey Brian, great video as always. As far as I understand, these are single use filters. I've worked with Sata RPS cups, they send the cups and 2 types of filters: 125 µm for usual basecoat and clear and 200 µm for sealer, clear or basecoat with big metallics (rather special bascoats, will say so in datasheet). In those cups you can/need to apply the filter you need yourself everytime. Don't know about availability in the US though, I believe it's a German company. But anyway, to me it looks like the filter mesh is a lot broader, so it might be like 200µm filters....? Have a good day.

I like to blow the inner chambers with air before i use them because sometimes paper towels and shop rags can leave lint inside. The 3m plugs actually fits in the adapter so you can leave it there when not in use, keeps lint and dirt from getting inside the chamber. Check fan patern on paper on the wall to purge out any lint or dirt thats left before painting.

The pot neck strainers also restrict paint flow too much. I just cone filter the paint (basecoat, 2K solid or clear) as I put it in the pot, and also pop the lid cap. When spraying this allows that little better airflow through the lid, and it doesn't leak if you're careful with tilting gun for under edges etc only with paint flow happening.
