2nd GEN Dodge RAM 1500 HEMI SWAP we continue the build on this custom modified special edition SS/T pickup truck where we removed the 5.9L Magnum v8 engine and replaced it with a 5.7L HEMI engine from a 4th gen RAM and are running the Holley EFI Terminator X on this fuel injected pushrod v8 engine.
In this episode we continue to get the engine ready to start by installing the exhaust manifolds adding fluids and installing the radiator as well as hooking up the power steering and getting a bunch of wiring done on this truck project so that it can run. We also install the driveshaft and start to get this truck ready to be able to drive under its own power

If you replace the trans, it would be cool to swap in a 46re since that's what most of us have in our 2nd gens and would help us know what's needed

If it’s for the track, fix the 3 speed. If you want to drive it to and from the track, do the 8 speed.

I do think since you do have a trans brake maybe you have to get the trans brake working first to get reverse to work but still I would go 8 speed! It would make that truck sick!

8 speed would be your best optimum performance option to really see how well a 5.7 moves that truck around but I think a manual would make it more outstanding to drive and enjoy vs all your big power rides…

Maybe that red button on the dash is the trans brake. Push it in and hold it then put in reverse and see that works.

If you’re running a 4th gen radiator in it stick a 4th gen V6 fan and shroud assembly in it. If you’ve got the rest of the harness it’ll have the pigtail you need. I ran one in my 2010 Ram 5.7 with a 180 thermostat and it rarely hit 190 on the gauge.

If you didn't do so much with the paint in the engine bay, I'd say it'd look pretty cool with that satin clear coat to keep the patina. What's really cool on the hood and roof is all the clear, paint AND primer is gone, but the blue stripes still look good.....👍 Poppy's wipe on patina clear coat.🤔

Also, you need to put the 727 into neutral to get the fluid moving. Needs plenty of fluid. I had a 727 with a 6.1, it was doggy with that trans.

It's true when you have fresh updated parts with a rough body. I get compliments and offers on my 96 ram, quite a bit. I have a mix of new and old school muscle look. People dig what Ive done. Would love to do a hemi swap at some point. Unfortunately I can't find a body shop that does restoration type work. To many shops just want to do the insurance claim BS.

I absolutely love the Chrysler 727, they are almost "Bullitt Proof"! That being said, and I hate to admit it, the eight speed is probably the better decision!

im not a transmission expert either but ive been in a bunch of 727's and that solenoid didnt come stock on a 727 it might be important to hook that up might be stopping fluid pressure or something and could be the reason its not moving

I was hoping to see how the 727 trans worked in the truck with that engine an configuration, maybe it has something to do with the trans brake not functioning, or something simple like that.. also do you know what rear diff gears are 355 or 392 or …? An ya im glad you got the video re uploaded an back up to what it was suppose to be , i realize now john after watching its not a repeat , 👍, try a few more things with the trans an see if you can get it working.. i never seen a 727 with newer 5.7 hemi work together ..

With the 3 speed your only going to get geared for the 1/4 or the 1/8 without swapping diff gears each time. With the 8 speed, you get both. Not running the 8 speed makes absolutely no sense imo. I get the nostalgia thing. The reason it had a 3 speed is because that's all that would hold power back then. You don't see guys with 1000 HP swapping in a 727 over a 8 speed.
