I'm so excited to share with you my progress from my second month of selling digital downloads on Etsy! It's been a fun journey so far and these are the results I got in the 2nd month. I'm a beginner at Etsy (this is the FIRST Etsy shop I created from scratch), so this video is a realistic summary of what you might expect if you start an Etsy shop as a beginner.
I also answer some frequently asked questions that you asked in my 1st month update video, like if I'm doing ads on Etsy, how long it takes to make a listing for Etsy, and if I use Canva premium or free version to make my digital downloads for Etsy.
I hope this video inspires you to start your own Etsy journey or to continue growing your own shop.
Let's make it happen! Leave a comment if you have a question or if you are also working on your Etsy shop!

You have no idea how happy I am to see someone being very pure, humble & transparent with this type of business or wanting to be financially free! I never subscribe but I love your content from just the couple of videos I’ve watched so far so I will. I hope watching your journey will help myself get that encouragement, I keep postponing because I’m just scared with the hardships & failures even knowing that’s what comes with it

Love the journey. I do Etsy full time and run ads in both my shops. It generally takes Etsy between 30-90 days to know exactly where your listings fit in their ecosystem. Running ads on a new listing is kind of like throwing spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks. I’d suggest giving your store time to acclimate before you run ads. You’re doing a great job and having fun.

4:45 EXACTLY RIGHT. IMO each niche has its cap. I have found $10 is best for me. Any higher I also see diminishing returns. I've tried $25 and $50 and it wasn't too good. I agree Etsy just shows your listings to everyone to spend your max ad spend at a point. I haven't tried upping it in a long time though and my shop is much much bigger since then. I may try upping the ad spend and see if it converts better. If you ever want to talk or have a owners group of sorts let me know and I'd love to join. I think it could be a good idea. There are things you've said I could've told you and things you could've told me. Could be interesting. Great video 😀

@@DinaLu I really have no idea lol I would try it for a week and just see. You can always turn them back on if you want. Also you can choose how much of your ad money goes to each product. So if you have a product that’s doing well, you can choose to push that one a little more than others.

Hello! For Etsy ads to work, you need to check search terms at ads dashboard, and disable irrelevant ones. I do this twice a day for my 4 ads out of 400 listings. Also, try running ads for only the best products, or new ones to help them at the beginning.

One video and I'm already looking forward to watching more. I like your style. It's very natural. You are telling us things we want to hear... how long it took to put your first product up, how ads seem in your case, AND your costs and sales so far. You seem honest about how you are doing things and not pumping out video after video pushing people to use your links or affiliates. My thought is to NEVER OUT YOUR SHOP because people will use it to make their own and you'll lose revenue. (I don't have an Etsy shop... yet. This is from a KZfaqr I watched who did that with his eBay store and lost sales as others just copied).

@Dina Lu FYI I believe Canada has to pay extra fees on Etsy. I believe there was something that happened August 2022. One of my Canadian friends noticed they charge 13% tax on 26 cents. They charge for new or updated listings. He had to pay back taxes and felt robbed by Etsy & Canada.

Hi Dina I’ve just come across your KZfaq channel. You are doing an amazing job with your Etsy shop and I love the way you explain things naturally and transparently. You are an inspiration. I’ve just started exploring digital downloads and want to start asap. Im just wondering do your figures account for the 6.5% selling fee and 3% credit card fee? Etsy does inform you when they reserve payment but as your products are digital and not POD then the risk is very low. I think Etsy may have a chat box at certain times if the day? Anyway, well done and look forward to seeing more of your videos 🕊🌸

THANK YOU! I'm so happy to hear that you're enjoying my content. And happy to hear you're thinking of doing Etsy. Yup, my "net profit" column is the amount with all the fees deducted (listing fee, Etsy selling fee, credit card fee, ad spend, etc). I got that directly from the FINANCES -> MONTHLY STATEMENTS page (the NET PROFIT amount). Yeah... I don't think I'm on reserve so it's quite weird haha

Hey Michelle! I actually do that too now that I know more about etsy. But before I started selling on etsy, I wouldn't even know which one is an ad and which one isn't, so they all looked the same to me😅 but also I rarely used Etsy to buy things. Maybe people who buy more things on Etsy will skip over the ad listings

Hi Dina, I read on a Etsy forum that your ads can be placed on unrelated searches because of the description isn't tight enough. Even if the keywords are spot on, if the description isn't specific Etsy can get confused with new shops where to place your ads ?

Yeah I think maybe the description has something to do with it.. but I did learn from somebody else's comment that I can pick which keywords Etsy shows for my ads

@@DinaLu There is a simple way to find out how effective your ads and listings are Dina. Log out of Etsy. Turn on incognito mode then go back to Etsy but don't log in. Now do a non specific search for an item you listed and want to check on, then a more specific search term and for both keep going through the pages until your ad / listing appears. Unless you are dominating a search category you should see your ads before your unadvertised listings. If you don't then yes Etsy is having some problems but it is more related to your title and tags than the descriptions. Etsy just don't have the same grunt to grind through every listing description and categorize so they rely on the title and tags. This is straight from the horse 🏇

@@shortghoststory Don't undersell yourself. Price your art at what you think it's worth, based on the time you spent on it and the skills you needed to create it. If your art is good, people will pay as much as it's worth. I would skip the ads if you haven't got the funds, and instead promote it yourself on social media sites such as Pinterest, whatever you are using already. As long as you promote it somewhere, that's the important thing, it doesn't need to be through ads. :)
