As a car guy that's got back into tinkering with bikes again (I don't ride them much, I just like wrenching on them) I cringe when I see the lack of certain tools. I'd go straight to the rattle gun for a stuck bottom bracket 🤣

Impact driver FTW! (It worked for me, when a breaker bar didn't)

I put a long tube over my wrench and all I got was the tool strip.. I have one with the threaded part... broke the tool first go. Nishiki Rockhound won.. no CBBO entry my current build is Hydraulic brakes. same scenario.. we call those Dead Blow Hammers impact tools.. not so much the impact.. but the bits.. all the other chew out in cheap bike tool kits. but the little ratchets are so killer.. I have one that came in an IKEA package that ratchets one way and you flip the bit.. so I carry a 32 bit carrier with an extension driver to flip within it. and a cheap Hex L wrench.. is it 6mm? I have Skewers that size... with the long side having a Phillips head.. you can adjust B and H/L on the fly and tighten any loose bottle cages, presta- schrader compatible mini pumps. a hanger Alignment tool.. requirement. spoke tools.. every single disc wheel I've owned needed the dish adjusted towards the short spokes you only find out when you put massive tires on. now I'm waiting on 268 mm non drive side spokes for my 27.5 rear.. anodized red.. so every second spoke will be red or black I use one chain tool.. the same tool I use to cut housings. because I'm never gonna put the pin back in... I disagree on the workstand. I'd say get a truing setup first.. so... housing cutter.. Ikea tools with impact bits. hanger algnment tool.. BB and crank remover tool (which also is the same size as wheelnuts and hubs) spoke tools. perhaps a good Torch

Bleeding Magura brakes is a bit tricky but not impossible either. Probably similar to SRAM/AVID brakes. I use them on a cargo bike and especially the front brake has been rather difficult to bleed. It took me a bit of time but they also work as they should and I guess having a very long hydraulic line is more finicky with all manufacturers. But I would agree, so far, the Shimanos have been the most easy brakes to bleed.

I bought a cheapish bleed kit years ago and it's still going strong except for losing the funnel o-ring seal (I think it got confused with the bleed port o-ring at some point) but that was easily replaced. One word of advice, if you work on a lot of different brakes its probably worth having a mineral oil *and* a DOT fluid bleed kit to avoid cross-contamination. I've heard that even if you are meticulous about cleaning, the plastics can absorb the different hydraulic fluids.

A dead blow hammer has been my favorite bike tool so far. It’s a big plastic mallet with lead shot inside of it. Sometimes you need a hammer that’s big, won’t cause any damage to what it hits. You can tap in headsets with no press using one, or smack them back out in one hit with the headset removal tool together.

Also good hex wrenches. It’s something you use a lot with bike repair, so get the good tools for it. I got a Wera set for pretty cheap and it’s absolutely worth the price over the pile of assorted other hex wrenches.

I got a BB Tap quite cheap a while back, don’t know how I lived without it! Yeah the long breaker bars are great but I still go with tool bolted to the bike and spanner and long pole, out of prob 70ish bikes I have only not been able to get out about 3.

A headset press and cup removal tool is essential when you're working on bikes, also a crown race removal tool. I own a work stand I bought from decathlon about 20 years ago, the only thing that's broken from it is the rod that helps the clamp stay closed, but I have a temporary solution to it for now.

** Semi-related hot tip : poke new shifter / brake cable ends into a tube of super glue to stop them from fraying when installing and cutting . Also try not to cut small bits of cable as they will inevitably unwind, become lodged in your foot and make it very painful to walk and/or exist.

Don't think I'll make the cruise this time... Flights from Louisville Kentucky are crazy! 😂😂 I could buy a ton of crusty bikes at these prices!

Never buy cheap tools as they can ruin bolts. Wera and PB Swiss are the best as are Knippex for adjustable spanners, pliers and cable cutters. A really good hammer I bought is by Thor which has a copper face on one side and leather on the other so doesn't damage the part you are hitting. Quite cheap too. I can't speak too highly of Halfords Professional range of socket sets and spanners, they are Snap On quality but much less expensive. Bleeding Magura brakes is a bit of a learning curve, at least the ones I have as they don't have a bleed nipple. Shimano though is a piece of cake. You could have mentioned a chain checker which is one of those which may be overlooked.

Sadly Lifeline tools bit the dust as they were a CRC/Wiggle brand. Shame as I really rated them too. Hope someone resurrects them.
