My friend Bobby has been having some trouble with the clutch in his truck and decided to enlist me to help him replace it. We end up replacing the clutch, pilot bearing, pressure plate, release bearing, flywheel and rear main seal while we were in there and it drives like a whole new truck now.

What are symptoms of the clutch going out? My pickup won’t go into reverse while running without grinding. If I shut the truck off it goes right in.

The bread trick works with a lot of things. Dove soap or grease also work. Just have a correct size punch.

I've done grease before, never tried the soap! Only reason I prefer bread is because it's less of a mess once you're done since it all just comes out as one big clump

tHanks @@RotaryDaddy , you make a good point. I use bread to put into copper house pipe when the condensation in the line keeps you from sweating a joint. The bread comes out like a mess when the water comes back on. (Had one that stayed solid for weeks.....One day....the hot side was warm again....like when dude was trying to touch your mamma's gift in the video). tHanks for the video!

I'd say just look for any fluid leaks, drive it check for noises and that the clutch/transmission isn't slipping. They're pretty hard to kill and easy to work on tbh. I'd stay away from the 3.0L if at all possible but that's about it!

I am not a professional mechanic..... but I have done a lot of wrenching. I did a clutch job 1986 Toyota " One ton " a few years ago and kept track of the time. Dis - assembly was just under 2 hours. Clean up was about 45 min.... I had it back together in just under an hour.... So...call it a shy 4 hours..... Pretty easy job really.... Put new nylon bushings on the shifter and drained and replaced the 75-90w oil in the trans with correct crush washers at the same time....

Must be nice. It's my first job on my own truck and holy. When me and my buddies first took my auto out there was so much gunk I couldn't find the bolts to the support. After we got it out after 3 hours of painstakingly kicking it and tears. I cleaned up the support and finally found the supports so it the new manual should go in easier now. I bought the wrong throwout bearing though so I have to wait a few more weeks.

Dope video. Do you think that the clutch on a 1992 Toyota Pick Up is similar to this?
@RotaryDaddy

Yup! If it's a 4 cylinder it should be about the same, if its a v6 there are some exterior things that are different but once you get to the clutch it should all be the same! 🤘🏼🤘🏼

@@paidsk8er23 honestly doesn't really matter usually. Toyotas are pretty much all the same when it comes down to it. Shifter, driveshaft, mounts, electical connections, speedo cable, and bellhousing bolts and the trans are out.

@@RotaryDaddy Take the entire driveshaft including the yoke on each end to a driveline shop. They will shorten it and spin-balance the entire assembly. FWIW, the transmission's tail-shaft isn't designed for a thrust load and neither are the u-joints. Thanks for the video as we're doing the same job an hour from now, and I know we going to have a tough time due to that non-removable cross member holding the torsion bars.
@RotaryDaddy
@RotaryDaddy 3 жыл бұрын
@@rmsmith1126 yeah definitely gonna have to look into that! It really isn't too bad dealing with the crossmember. I've talked to some old timers since this video and they say you should be able to flip the trans 180 degrees and get it out that way without pulling the shifter housing but I haven't gotten another one to try

@@RotaryDaddy well, you can call it whatever you ant to call it. it's your channel (I stumbled on it by chance) and I won't tell you how to live your life. Either way... I wanted to show some videos to my children and man... I watch DOZENS of mechanic videos here on KZfaq and no single one has such way to show "how it's done" things... I think that you should try better. This is an international platform and if you want to get better, I guess you should reconsider on getting better on bad language usage. That would be leading to a better way.

@@VitorMadeira I appreciate the input. Honestly over the years I have made a bit of an effort to swear a bit less in my videos but it is kind of just part of my personality.
