Logitech H650e (Model: A-00057) USB headset.
Purchased from Value Village (thrift store).
Worked some of the time (likely why it was donated).
Symptoms:
1) Odd resetting of the USB hub (likely due to shorting, did not destroy the PC's USB port thankfully).
2) Physical abnormalities/deformations on wire exiting the inline remote (USB-A end) directly adjacent to the remote only, and not present elsewhere.
What was done:
1) Pry the inline remote open, first with a box cutter to open a gap, then a small flat-head screwdriver. Note: tabs are glued in place, expect all to break, look at their placement and try to avoid this outcome.
2) Assess connections, possibly de-solder the wire and attach a replacement. In this case, wire insulation was damaged (unknown cause, white wire) and likely caused shorts across the printed circuit board.
3) Using tweezers and electrical tape, insulate the damaged wire and wrap excess electrical tape around the wire bundle.
4) Test. See if it works.
5) It seemed to work. Secure inline-remote housing with zip ties (vs a permanent seal) in case future access is required.
6) Repaired(?) $100+ headset in under 30 minutes that would have ended up in landfill/recycling (thank you Value Village).
