Small correction. Toggling 'red' and 'blue' switches channels between low and high gain. To turn on the cab sim, hold the button until it flashes. Flashing LED indicates cab sim is on.

That means even though he recorded it that way, it sounded good straight into the interface and no cab simulation... Right?

Small correction. Blue is the clean input of the amp, red is the dirty side. And the if you hold that button down, it will flash. THAT is the direct record setting. The solid color is the amp mode for a speaker.

To me, the Matchbox sounded like one of those tiny toy amps (like the Marshall micro stack). The Taxidea Taxus sounded good, and my favorite was the US Gold 100.

From what I could tell he didn't have the cabsim on for the Matchbox portion, the pedals have a brash sound when you don't use a cabsim or impulse response. I would check other demo's before completely dismissing it, these pedals are great from my experience and make for an easy interface recording setup.

Which one was your favourite? Mine was the Taxidea Taxus (I'm more of a low/mid gain guy) followed closely by the US Gold 100 which has super nice high gain rhythm and lead tone. The matchbox will be good for those who like a high gain scooped mid sound. Good luck to all who enter to win this sweet trio of pedals!

I believe the red and blue are actually the 2 channels of each pedals and not an indicator for the cabinet simulation. If the cab sim is activated, the light will blink. I have the 009 Blacknight model; it's really cool for the price!

Darrell, A thousand positive things that I've been sharing with others regarding your talent, and how you choose to present it. You frigging ROCK!!! Although internet shy, I cannot refrain from complementing you on everything from presentation through virtuosity on the guitar. You have become my go-to channel, the benchmark I hold others accountable for, from basic presentation on up through virtuosity. It's now been 7 + years if I'm not mistaken, and you and your channel remain the standard upon which I still judge all others, and rightfully so. It's everything about how you present yourself in what has become another cut-throat aspect of music mania that has me comparing all vidios and reviews against those you have already published/posted, and it's your outstanding positive approach that has me searching first and foremost among your postings. Darrell, I'm on my way from recovering from a path that I have no doubt would have been a one-way ticket far beyond where I currently find myself. Is it all sunshine and roses? No, that's just another perpetuated falsehood that closes us off from the ragged truth that is life itself. Reality is another 100 shades of colors beyound that, each color percived differently, but still derived from the same base colors we opt to share with others. Although basicly all the same, we are able to disertain the subtle nuances that make everything from the first rays of sunlight, until the last rays of fading sunlight, absolutely unique, and is what helps me from just giving up, as where I still see breathless uniqueness in our universe, others look upon the cosmos as a vast void of lifenessness. It becomes extrodinarily difficult to view each and every new day with eyes wanting to clearly see into the future of mankind, although I fear that it's this very destiny that will spell humankind's fate. Just want to hug and hold you all close before it's that very action that forever stops us from doing so, as because I remain immuno-compromized, I'm still willingly wearing a mask and using hand-sanitizers. Doesn't hurt me any in doing so, but the rewards will be astronomical if my actions prevent the death of another human being that has just as much right to live as I do, especially those souls caught up in the current Ukraine conflict. Mike Dawes concert here in Napa, California on 7/14, the venue being at the Blue Note Theater, a venue that just seats 150 souls, and I'm hoping to treat my first girlfriend from 50 years ago, and a fellow music affectionado, to what I know will be an unprecedented live concert performance by the world's most astounding acoustic guitarist of our time, Mike Dawes. I know photos and videos won't be allowed, but just to see the faint smile on my friend's face while holding her hand all these years later will be all that I can possibly hope for. -E-

great pedals. I don't umderstand the cab emulator, since they are preamp, so it suppose to need a powerr amp section before to be cab emulated. In fact I got two Mooer Radar. One is connected to the fx loop Send of my Marshall DSL20CR, to go then to my PA. And in this case the emulated power is "ON". The other Radar in connected to the Line out of Bugera PS1 and then to the PA and the power emulation of the Radar is Off.

Hi! They can be used in front of an amp (as I recorded), in an amp's effects loop, recorded direct to an audio interface (as shown), to a mixer or PA, but would likely need a DI box in that scenario. With the on board cab SIM they can be make to work with pretty much any scenario ☺

Great video BTW, they always are. While I work with amps more now, I've been repairing guitars for years. I started working on them myself after my place was broken into and a CS Strat that was handed down to me, and an American Deluxe that I bought brand new 31 days earlier we stolen, the place I had been working at had unexpectedly went out of business, and I ended up shattering my ankle a couple weeks after so I was laid up for months. I couldn't replace what was taken, I just didn't have the money. All I could afford was a used MIM. I know a lot of people who own mid-range guitars think they're just as good, and in some ways they are. However this one just wasn't; it sounded good, but didn't play as good, so 8 decided to make it play as good as I could. 15 years later.... One of the good things, if not the best thing b about being able to do your own servicing and modifying is that you can have REALLY great gear, that if you had to get them how everyone else does, you'd either be broke or dissatisfied. This is especially true with amps and pedals. Forget all the Dumble clones, if I had to buy just some of the Fender and Marshall clones that I've built, or vintage pedals, well I might be able to buy a few every decade. The most useful thing is that you REALLY get to know what goes into one guitar over another, or amp or stompbox, etc. You find out what the difference REALLY is been a $500 guitar compared to a $1500 ( answer; probably a lot more than you'd think), and what the difference is between a $2000 guitar and a $6-7000 guitar (answer: probably a lot LESS than you'd think; the law of diminishing returns really comes into play here). So I REALLY appreciate how you go over the gear you're demonstrating. I've seen demoed of the Cort G290 Fat models before. They were nice looking but I wasn't really blown away, PRS SEs look pretty much the same (not design but appointments). When I watched you do it though, I came out of it being extremely impressed; both with the guitar AND with the your video. Most demo videos will run down the specs, then jump in to playing it. Man though, after I watched you pull the neck off, pull the pickup out, the rear panel, etc. I came away knowing EXACTLY what I was looking at. I can see how the body is made; if it had a true maple top or just a veneer, and after finding it to be an actual maple top whether the flame top was a veneer or not (veneer). I could see how much care went into the things you don't normal see when playing like how clean the routing is, how well the finish was done, what type of block was used with the tremolo, the pots, etc. It was when I heard that in spite of the dinky little block, that the tremolo itself was machined steel, and I saw how tight of a fit the neck pocket is with the neck, I realized that that guitar was v MUCH more than the other demo and descriptions in various videos. If I were to buy a guitar like that, it would be with the intention of buying it for the platform of the neck and body, eventually I replace pickups, even on flagship models, not because of quality, I just know what I want in a pickup and it's rarely what the stock pickups are (imagine my surprise when I found that I actually really like the import 58/15 S pickups on the S2 McCarty). I always change the switching and controls; IMO they always use tone caps with values that at too high, and pots with tapers that aren't great. After that video I now know with certainty that the G290 is a fantastic platform to mod, and that the low price is in no way indicative of the body and neck (though I'm still baffled that with the design and build being such a high quality for the cost, why they decided the $2-3 they saved by using cheap Alpha mini- pots, but whatever). In close; outstanding channel, and exceptional videos. Keep doing what you're doing.

Unrelated...what kind of nut is on your guitar? Thanks.

Hi! It's just the stock Epiphone nut. As long as it isn't causing tuning instability I'll leave it. ☺ Graphtech is what I would use to replace a nut if it is causing problems.

I think it’s supposed to be: Blue is clean channel, Red is dirty channel You have to hold down the button to make it flashing to get the cabinet simulation for direct recording. And then alternate between clean and dirty Channels.

Great Video. I have a question. How is called the type of vibrato system in which I can do dives (Like Eddie Van Halen). Blocked? Floating or another one? I have always been confused with that. It will be cool to know how to set it up a Vibrato system to do dives

Can someone more gear savvy help me out? I think I've heard there's away to run pedals into your amp where it "skips" the preamp and only uses the power amp. Is that the point with these preamp pedals? Use your amps existing power amp with a different preamp to give you the characteristics of a different amp's tone from the preamp?

It only works if you have an effects loop. The effects send comes from the pre-amp and the return goes to the power-amp. So you can plug stuff directly into the effects return to just make use of the power amp stage.

Thanks Mark! I thought running through the effects loop was the was the way to do it, but wasn't confident enough to be sure. So im assuming you just run one cable from the output of the pedal in to the return of the effects loop and you're done? Or is it effects send into pedal's input then pedal output into effects return (this might be how you use both preamps but idk)?
@MarkSDD
@MarkSDD 6 жыл бұрын
Just the output from the pedal. The guitar goes to the pedal input. Also, generally the pedal needs to have a higher output than the input. So a regular distortion pedal, for example, plugged straight in to the effects return is outputting a signal not that much bigger than the input from the guitar, so the amp would need to be turned up really loud before you would even hear anything, which means you don't really have anywhere to go volume wise after that. If these pre-amp pedals put out a decent signal, comparable to a rack-mount pre-amp or something like a POD, etc, then they should work exactly like a full pre-amp would and you can get your expected volume levels from the amp when using them.
