first we need a teacher and then eventually we have to grow beyond the teacher and the teaching...into our own island. There are attachments formed with teachers and teaching -the attachments get more subtle as we unveil the true consciousness of who and what we are. Many people on a spiritual path never can exit this attachment to teachers and teachings, to be their own teacher.

What Thay is telling us is that we should take the approach of Krishnamurti. Seeking of truth is an an individual path, the teacher just points like the finger to the moon to show us the right direction to start walking.

Very educative. I do research on how Buddhism disappeared in Bihar. I realized it never disappeared from Bihar. Buddhists simply failed to research Indian Buddhism. They looked at Buddhism through the sphere of their own cultures searching for only the Buddha. Buddha had a myriad of names in different villages according to his teachings there. Example. His favorite teaching was 'Lust and desire causes pain. Remove lust and desire, and pain is removed'. Translated into Bihari (where the Buddha story took place) it is DHUKH HARAN meaning to remove dukha. Three dozen villages pray to DUKH HARAN Baba. Its clear that DUKH HARAN Baba is none other than the Buddha. Problem is Buddhists are searching only for the Buddha. In the real Vaishali the Buddha begged for alms. The locals there pray to 'BHIKHAINI' Baba (Beggar Baba). Bhikhaini was mispronounced by Buddhists as Bhikshu. Who is BHIKHAINI Baba. The Buddha no doubt. But people are searching for a man called Buddha. In the real Vaishali, in Beluha the Buddha suffered a sickness and felt he had grown old. The locals pray to 'BURHA' Baba (Old Baba). Who is BURHA Baba. The Buddha no doubt. In the real Vaishali the Lichavies pressurized Buddha not to die. They trailed him to Bandagawan pressurizing him not to die. To put pressure in Hindi is DABESHWAR. Three dozen villages around the stupa where Buddha gave the Lichavies his patra, the villagers pray to Baba 'DABESHWAR NATH' meaning the man who won the pressurizing game. It was the the Buddha no doubt as he gave the Lichavies his patra and succeded in sending them back. But Buddhists are searching for the Buddha. Forgive me for commenting out of the topic. I just wanted to impart this information to you.

I remember Thay once said if we can still find the five year old child within our adult bodies then we can understand that we never lose our loved ones when they pass. Thay you are here now with us as much as my five year old child. We love you so much. May you be in eternal peace and love always. Peace. Peace Always.

No matter how much I practice No matter how much I study I immediately am reminded of how it felt to first be awakened by thays presence And that feeling continues to grow with each time I come in contact. The amount of suffering he has helped to relieve in my life gives me the sensation that I am in direct contact with a lineage of the Buddha. Also seeing that I am him and he is me. I feel very happy to be a human being knowing I am part of the same family as thay and buddha. I struggle with how I see the world different than others now. Even growing up I felt that same feeling but now that I have a deeper understanding of my consciousness and reality itself, I feel even more alienated in a society filled with selfishness and ignorance. I try not to be that person who is always sharing through my words, because I feel hurt when I open up but no one is awake enough to listen to me. So lately I've been trying hard to let my presence do my speaking. And I've seen more positive results in getting my point across. Really I just want to help people But people don't want help So what am I supposed to do I feel like I understand what thay talks about how we can burn ourselves out if we don't have true inner peace. And thankfully I believe I've finally found that long lasting peace. Much because of thay and everyone in plum village Thank you so much A lotus for you 🙏 🤲 🌼 🤲 🙏

@@lazitazen6882 I would like to share my practice as of late, which is, to dwell happily in the present moment. Even though at this moment my life is turbulent I can still find things to be grateful for and even though I may be going through the thick of it I can suffer with a smile on my face, knowing that this suffering is impermanent it looses some of its grip on my mind. Because when it comes down to it, the body knows how to suffer and it knows how to feel joy but it’s our mind that doesn’t seem to be able to recognize the subtle feelings that the body is trying to communicate. So we have to cultivate deep communion with our body. Like going to church and praying with god. That church is our body and our mind. Would we treat our loved ones with the type of disrespect we treat ourselves at times? I know I feel the shame of doing things that are not good for me because I know it affects my loved ones: if it wasn’t for my loved ones maybe I would not see the reflection of my actions and wouldn’t have the drive to change inwardly So gratitude for my loved ones and celebrating impermanence are the keys to being joyful even in the throws of a spell of pain 🙏🏼
@jSpirituS7
@jSpirituS7 Ай бұрын
@@lazitazen6882 having compassion for myself when I make mistakes is key to long term growth. I need to cultivate enough mindful energy so that when I’m in a state of weakness and my primitive brain chooses to take over I can trust that I will make the right choices and my best choices become better choices than they would have been without the mindfulness available. The practice isn’t to try and change the present moment no matter what the circumstances but to rather aim for a brighter future by slowly and steadily bathing in the flickering candle flame of our mindfulness energy and present moment awareness. Eventually we stop doing the things that cause us suffering because we know how good it feels to have peace and we don’t want to jeopardize that peace for ourselves but mainly because if we have the aspirations to be a bodhisattva than we wouldn’t be fulfilling that dream and that hurts more than anything 🙏🏼

"to be really there and know what is going on in your body, in your feelings, and it helps you know what to do and what not to do..." The death of Thich Naht Hahn this past week is a good time to remember these beautiful teachings which were exemplified in Thay's life so well. He was a great Teacher. Marshall Vian Summers has written about this "island," calling it Knowledge. Here is a quote: 'Knowledge is with me. Where am I? Knowledge is with you completely, but it resides in a part of your mind to which you have not yet gained access. Knowledge represents your True Self, your True Mind and your true relationships in the universe. Today think about where you are [in relation to your True Self/Knowledge]. If you are not with Knowledge, where are you?"(MVS, Steps to Knowledge)

Such a serene and straightforward teaching. He calmly recites the Pali and effortlessly translates it to Vietnamese French and English. Then he uses the Sutta to build (on the fly, in real-time, just winging it) his classic breath and music centered meditation instruction for Sangha-wide stationary and walking practice. The singing solidifies the teaching and makes it easier to memorize the important concept of the Sutta. Dear Thay is an exemplar of the wings of compassion and wisdom. He was a polymath. And who said that the Buddha did not believe that self existed. The no self teaching merely highlights my deluded belief that any of the 5 mundane aggregates of human experience could support the existence of an unconditioned self. This teaching suggests to me that there is a self or island to take refuge in. It’s certainly not any of the 5 aggregates but cannot be described with human words. 🙏🏿🙇🏾‍♂️🙏🏿🙇🏾‍♂️🙏🏿🙇🏾‍♂️🔔🔔🔔🙏🏿❤️❤️❤️

I searched your name tonight to listen to you talk, like i normally do during certain moments in my life, and found our about your passing. You have made an impact on my life. You have changed the way I think, feel and react to anger and challenges I face and I am now free because of it. You are an absolute legend. Where ever you are now, what ever you are doing; goodluck on the next step of your journey. Thank you Thay.

I am sorry to hear that this man has passed on. He was very economical with words but he emanated a profound sense of peace. He gave, and will continue to give, inspiration and comfort to a lot of people.

I never had the time, energy and focus to learn, practice and "follow" Thays ways .... My dream was always to go to Vietnam to see him first .... My mind knows about his teachings but again i never took the time .... Cause of Covid i could never go to Vietnam and now he died i feel my heart has broken ...
